The vibe here is so delightful. You can tell the staff is like family and they definitely have regulars because of that. (First timers!) we ordered the daily special of grilled steak with chimichurra sauce, crab cake appetizer, filet (rare), twice baked potato, and an extra side of their cole slaw. Even though I got the wrong dish I'm not one to send things back unless it's way out of whack but this was OK. I ordered a beef on weck (western New Yorkers know what that is ) but got a French dip. Service was a little slow but it was a packed house so we forgave the waitress. The decor was pleasant and the place was very clean. After dinner went to the meat counter and bought some homemade Italian sausage. Haven't cooked it yet so no comment. read more

Someone once told me that Alpine Steakhouse is the only place they buy their meats. I've driven past this spot for years, always curious, and finally found myself pulling into the lot, ready to explore. Since it was my first visit, I decided to start small and get a feel for the place. Sitting at the bar, I couldn't help but notice that almost everyone around me had ordered burgers--a promising sign. My server greeted me warmly, handed me menus, and took my drink order. I had a few questions, and she answered them honestly, which I truly appreciated. I settled on a cheeseburger, cooked rare, with fries. And wow--what a surprise. The burger was cooked perfectly, the juices soaking into the bun in the best way. The lettuce was crisp and chilled, giving that satisfying crunch, and the tomato had real, garden-fresh flavor. Now I'm already stalking the menu for my next visit--torn between the New York steak or the prime rib (both rare, of course--aka "mooing"). Next time, I'll also be checking out the butcher counter. The restaurant was packed with people outside waiting for their names to be called. My wife and I asked the hostess how long would the wait be for a table for two. She replied, about twenty minutes. We checked in and proceeded outside to wait for our name to be called. After we waited for about 30 minutes, I went inside to check to see if we were getting close. The hostess advised to was going to be AT LEAST twenty more minutes. At this point, my wife and I decided to cut our losses and find another restaurant. To be clear, my rating was solely due to the poor handling of the hostess station. We have dined at Alpine several times and were always pleased with their food and service. After all the hype, we had to try it. The steaks were delicious. I had filet (8 oz!). Others had strip steak, prime rib. I hesitate to order prime rib cuz it can be chewy. Not here! All the food was excellent. Sadly, beer and wine only which I don't drink. What the place lacks in atmosphere, it does make up for in meat. We were seated at the front door so we were well aware of patrons standing and waiting for a table. If you don't want to dine in, there is a full meat counter to choose from for home cooks. Prices were reasonable for dinner but when I looked at the meat counter, filets were going for $$$$. Like most restaurants today, it was a bit loud. Would I recommend it? Saw this place on TV; years ago. Finally drive down from Orlando to try the place. I sure like the place. Maybe the food is a solid 4-star place; but I give 5 stars for the dark haired/younger/ slender build waitress and her service. Good thing this place has her - as she is quite proficient and does great at anticipating the customer need, without having to ask. And on this day, she handled a number of tables; without making you feel (she) was that busy. Ok, on to the food comments: - French onion soup: Excellent and very well balanced. - turducken: A great rendition of the turkducken itself. The stuffing within the dish was very good tasting. The cook on the turkey, duck and chicken was spot on. Now, do I wish they had a better gravy to top the dish; yes. But hey, they nailed the protein aspect of the dish. Weiner schnitzel: Another great dish. (2) veal cutlets come to the table and they look great. Great crust on the veal. The lemon caper sauce was light tasting and wish I had more of it on the plate! Red cabbage: I'm (not) your best judge as this stuff was way tart from the vinegar. I'm not the big tart fan. Being here for lunch, didn't get to try the BBQ or a steak....but I think they are probably quite good. I saw the steak in the butcher case...they had great color and marbling. I was in town and wanted to go out to lunch, so I go to my go-to list at Diners, drive-in and Dives. And found this place. My friend and I wanted to have the famous Turducken. I watched the scene on the show. It's definitely not like what was on the show. But what we got half the size and my friends had nothing but chicken and duck, none of the other ingredients. My dad and went drove an hour to get the turducken. It was worth the trip. Great food. Good service. Casual environment. We saw that they sell prime steaks in the restaurant and in the meat market, so we decided to go back and have another lunch. The plan was for me to have a steak, and if it was a lot better than the choice steaks we get from the grocery store, we'd make a monthly trip for lunch and to stock up on steaks. We won't be going back. Never again. My dad had schnitzel. It was average to below average. I had the boneless ribeye. It was a joke. I don't how the hell that made it onto a plate and onto my table, but it did. I've had better steaks at 3am at an all night breakfast place. I do not want to make any accusations, but if someone told me any or all of the following, I'd believe them: The "chef's" culinary experience consists of fast food and hospitals. The meat is actually select. The meat was leftover from the night before and was reheated in the microwave. The steak was cooked entirely in the microwave. The steak was actually fake (ribeyes and tenderloin are the cuts most likely to be created using scraps from other cuts of meat). As an added bonus, it came to $160, including tip. (I don't send food back to the kitchen. I've know many kitchen employees and I've heard too many stories to be that dumb. So I just pay my bill, and tip appropriately, then write an honest review here). My dad and I not going back monthly, as was our plan, will cost them a lot more than I spent. Hopefully this review costs them a lot too. They deserve all the pain that follows a sharp downturn in business because it's obvious they don't care. read more

Their ribeyes and burgers are fantastic, and I also love their artichoke-stuffed mushrooms - absolutely delicious! Nice wine selection. Very good restaurant and meat counter. The food is good. A solid four. Their meat counter sells a particular brand of corn beef, which is excellent. The brand I Sy Ginsberg. My only advice is if you want corned beef is to have it sliced at the meat counter and take it home. If you want a good deli style corn beef sandwich do not order one at Alpine. I should've known I was in trouble when I ordered a corned beef sandwich with coleslaw, and Russian or thousand island dressing on it. The waitress looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. She asked me if I wanted the corn beef warmed up or cold. At this point, I should've changed my order to one of their other many fantastic menu items. Long story short, they ruined the corned beef by putting it on a flat top to heat it up. It dried it out and made it a little crispy. So my advice is order anything else because the food is good do not order a corn beef sandwich. Called two weeks ago for a business Christmas dinner. Didn't have reservation, no issue they found us a table anyway. Service was slow, never got the bread and butter. It was a party of 6, 4 ordered delmonico one turducken and another filet. All of the delmonico people said steak had gristle and was very fatty. Turducken said it wasn't enough food. My filet was cooked perfectly. No seasoning on it but I sprinkled s &p and it was fine. Bernaise sauce was horrible. Had to have been microwaved. Sides were ok. I had a salad and 5 of us had French onion soup. Wasn't bad. I don't care if you have been in that location for 5 months or 53 years. It's needs an update seats are abused. And I would prefer for the wine list to be on paper and my menu to be hard bound. Not the other way around. The prices of the steak warrant a better experience. Drink refills were even slow. To have an up charge for salad is ridiculous. Plates are huge which make the portions look small. Our bill was $600. Will not go back. Our executive team wasn't impressed. read more

When our favorite pizza place had no indoor dining, we were searching for an alternative and then I knew just where to go ! We had such delicious food and a great service! We enjoyed two specials that were on the menu that nice, the Korean BBQ Ribs as an appetizer and the Tenderloin Tips dinner, as well as the Shrimp Dinner and a garden salad. Such a solid diner with fine cuts of meat and unique touches throughout the restaurant like cowhide on the booth seats and a deer antler chandelier! We stopped in on a complete whim and to our surprise, found this hip diner/butchers shop. We split a burger and fries with individual side salads. The burger was so good, perfectly juicy with grilled onions. The house salad has mushrooms and peppers which was a welcomed surprise to add dimension to the house salad. Only thing is the side salad was poorly presented with huge chunks of vegetable that needed to be cut up but cutting up the salad was difficult because it was on a too small bowl and also because we had a butter knife to work with. I was in town from California on a visit. My Dad and I were on our way to another steakhouse. We were driving and I saw the Alpine smoker and sign and told my Dad that we should just stop in and eat there. It was busy so we had about a 30 min wait. Gave me time to browse the chop shop. Wonderful assortment of all of my favorites. Including Japanese Waygu ($$$$), German sausages and don't forget a nice choice of seafood. We were seated, decided on a few starters and were not disappointed. Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail was great, sauce had a great bite of horseradish (just how I make mine). The House Smoked bacon was delicious. Keep in mind, this is not traditional crispy bacon, it leans towards the texture of pork belly and was perfect. As our mains we both had the Delmonico Ribeye. I had the cucumber salad, which brought back many Midwestern summer picnic memories. My Dad had the home made potato chips. Wonderfully crispy and seasoned very nice. The steaks were cooked just right and hit the spot. I will definitely be back on my next visit. Much appreciated. Keep up the great work. read more

After driving by this place at least once a week for months we finally decided to pop in. It was a good decision! Had no idea what to expect. Apparently this spot is locally "famous" but we hadn't heard of it. What caught our attention was that it was also a butcher shop! More on that later.. Got off to a slow start as we had a good 7-8 minutes of standing at the entrance before someone came to seat us, but as they were decently busy we didn't fault them for it. Our server turned up immediately and took our drink orders. By the time she came back with the drinks we were ready to order. The décor reminds me of an old school mess hall building in the way its laid out. Both tables and booths. You can also sit at the bar. The ambience is pretty laid back and family friendly. Food came out decently fast. It looked, smelled, and tasted great! Wife had the Philly cheese steak and I had the home made kielbasa sandwich. Both were fantastic. Note - if you have pork allergies or just don't eat it, be aware that the German potato salad does have pork in it, even though it's not mentioned on the menu. Speaking of home made kielbasa, did I mention there is a whole butcher shop INSIDE the restaurant? Of course I HAD to check it out immediately following the meal. They have some amazing looking cuts of meat, along with some baked goods, and prepared entrees. The steaks though.. don't leave without looking at the steaks! DON'T DO IT. read more

I have been to 63 places on Diners Drive Ins And Dives. This was middle of the pack. Not bad by any means...just not awesome. Food wasn't really hot either, more warm. I ordered the Turducken because I always wanted to try one, it tasted good. Thought it would have been a little bigger. Wife got the sampler platter. Seemed expensive for what you got. Ribs were not fall of the bone type. Brisket was good (again, not hot). Bread pudding for dessert was good. Overall, not bad...just wouldn't be my first choice. read more
