This is the perfect little hole in the wall space to get a cinnamon roll or a loaf of bread to help one through one's journey. (in our case, going from Portland to Newport on the coast.) We split a cinnamon roll, which is my idea of a near perfect cinnamon roll: sourdough flavor in the bread, just the right amount of cinnamon and sugar on the inside, and a nice glaze. The only thing I would change is maybe making it a little whole wheat, or adding some oatmeal or rolled oats to the dough. I'm weird that way. The only hot drink is coffee, which, even though I'm a tea drinker was fine. We split an Americano. my husband had a pleasant chat with the owner/sales person about the espresso machine. There are several nice looking, larger places on either side if anyone wanted something more substantial. If we're ever in the neighborhood, we will come back. Boutique bakery focused on sourdough breads. If you get up early and wolk downtown Corvallis you can't help but notice the smell of baking bread. This bakery tucked away next ot the Big River restaurant has some of the best sourdough bread around. Their main client is the local First Alternative co-op, but if you stop by the bakery you can pick it up same day fresh. The owner is a fantaic about the starter she feeds. She won't even allow smelly people (cigarettes or too much perfume) near the starter for fear of it taking on the wrong flavor. Learned that the word companion is latin for someone you share bread with (com - with, pan - bread). Their logo is "in crust we trust" and the proof is in the wonderful bread they make. The baker even threw in some bonus spinach sourdough rolls that tasted like the spinach dip was baked in - yummy! read more

No better bread. Been coming here for over 5 years 3 or 4 times a year from Chicago visiting grand kids. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and excels at every aspect of breadmaking and sales. I Take 3 or 4 loaves back home a big supply at a slice or two a day living alone. Freezer works great to store. read more

I am going to geek out here for a minute. I declare Alpine Sourdough Bakery in Corvallis has the best bread. Their Sourdough/Porter Bread is absolutely freaking magnificent. Seriously, the.best.bread.ever. And it's vegan! I can not stop talking about it. I might have a bread eating problem (more like a problem stopping myself from eating too much bread). I can't wait to try all of the breads from this great little bakery. I am going to try every single one...don't judge me. And fresh made sandwiches...yum. This was (we moved out of town recently) one of my boyfriend's and I's favorite stands at the Corvallis Farmer's Market. We tried as many different loafs as we could this last summer and they were all delicious! They are all great by themselves but you can also be sure you'll find the perfect pairing for any meal--many times towards the end we used the bread we got as the starting point and inspiration for our week's home-cooked menu. A Little Bit of France--in Oregon. My daughter and I had lunch at this little Corvallis gem, which not only bakes delicious sourdough breads reminiscent of French boulangeries, but serves soups, salads, and sandwiches (and sweet treats). I had the broth-based Garlic-Thyme soup, with fresh thyme harvested from the shop's little container gardens on the patio, and a medley of greens perfectly dressed with a pear vinaigrette created by co-owner and chef John. He also gifted my 2-year-old with a divine rosemary shortbread cookie. A perfect amuse-bouche. We took a slice of grass-fed & grass-finished lamb-liver pate home with us, which was accompanied with their house-made mustard and tiny cornichons. Delightful! John and his brother were friendly and attentive to us (his brother even gave me sourdough bread-making tips) and John and I had a pleasant conversation about our experiences in France.
