We bought the "cheaper wood". Maybe it's cheaper because we had to split it, but NOTHING is wrong with the wood. The quality is great (somebody left a reveiwe that it's chemicaly treated, it's NOT), the price is excelent, wouldn't buy from anybody else. read more

What's it like trying to heat your home with old, chemically treated, hopelessly saturated telephone poles? It you're a masochist, order some of this wood. We had to stack half of it indoors in hopes of accelerating the seasoning process. Eight months later, the wood is still wet. So wet that it's like trying to keep warm by burning cement. Is his wood supply stored in a pile at the bottom of a lake somewhere? read more

UPDATE JANUARY 7, 2013: So after seeing my reviews online and a number of additional threats made by the business owner, and my refusal to do anything but post more reviews, he stopped by my place on Friday and gave me $50 back in exchange for me removing my reviews. Since I cant remove this review, I am providing this update. At the end of the meeting on Friday, he pulls out his cellphone and sticks it in my face and states he is recording it and rambles off my address on the recording and then tells me if I don't remove all my reviews, he will post it on YouTube. In light of the money being given back, I am upgrading this review to a 2 star rating. However, due to how the business owner conducted himself throughout the disagreement, I personally feel it still does not deserve anything more than a 1 star rating. But he did make some attempt to rectify the situation despite making it worse by threatening me and my family so.... 2 stars it is. All I can say is use caution if you decide to make use of this guys services. I will provide further updates, if any further developments arise. read more

Great service, dropped our wood exactly where we needed it. This dude is super chill and great quality wood! Very friendly, awesome prices, very professional... and adorable dog! ;) Thanks so much, see you next year! ~ Susan & Michael read more

I inquired about the size of the wood on text and he didn't specify, after delivering I told him it seemed a bit too big for my stove and he took it personally and became very rude and offensive, and the wood actually turned out to be too big for my stove so I've been sawing it manually. Be careful when ordering from him, very sketchy. read more

Wow. This is why I never, ever take Yelp reviews seriously. We've bought from Lars several times, as have many of our clients and neighbours . The wood, the prices, and the service were all top-notch. HIGHLY recommended! read more

BEWARE: Flaky owner, who does not show up on time. Quality of the product is barely useable! Demeanour is very angry and short! Would not deal with him again. Move forward at your own risk! But I warned you... read more

The firewood is really great quality. It is not smoky at all which is what we are looking for. Lars is fair and quick to respond. He worked with our schedule and was super accommodating!! Thanks Lars. read more

We got a great load of wood from Lars, delivered next day on Bowen Island. Once stacked properly, the volume of wood was exactly as ordered. The wood was clean, dry, and it all fit, as promised, in our small wood stove. Couldn't ask for more - two thumbs up! Sarah&Ryan@1466 read more

I'm not sure how this Vancouver firewood company is still in business due to poor load counts and an owner(Lars) who seems have some sort of anger management and/or Napoleon type complex. I ordered a half load, to top off my woodshed and to make sure I have enough to get me through a colder fall/winter than I expected. Customer service wise, he was hard to get in touch with, was abrasive and short on the phone and I couldn't get a firm delivery time. The day of delivery he was late, his so called 1/2 load seemed more like 3/8 or less and when I have the "nerve" to gently suggest that this load was a little lacking in volume, he snapped. His face turned red, he started swearing at me in front of my young children and after me pleading with him to stop, he told me that if I complain anymore he would make my life miserable. Seems like this is a pattern for him based on the other reviews here. I was a little frightened by his misplaced aggression and by the end of our unprofessional and intimidating exchange, all I wanted to do was have him off my property and away from my kids. I will not to business with a person that conducts himself like this. I am willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt but the other reviews show that this wasn't a bad day or something, this is just the way he is. No thanks! read more

I ordered a full load which is advertised as 110 cubic feet when stacked. I received 75 cubic feet stacked. The wood advertised as being dried for 2-3 years was wet. In fact, saturated with water when I put a moisture meter to it. When I contacted Alpine Firewood about the short shipment, I got no response. There are several more reliable sources for firewood in Vancouver/Whistler. I won't be buying from them again. Poor product, poor service, and overpriced considering I only received 68% of what I paid for. read more

Given the earlier over-the-top critical review of Alpine Firewood I would like to provide another more generous view. I have taken delivery of wood from AF on at least four occasions over the last few years and I think the wood is good value, especially if you order the "Cheaper Wood" described on the website. Although it is not hardwood (it is fir), it burns just fine when dry. Basically, you are paying for a truck load or a partial load as shown on the website. If the precise volume of wood matters to you, AF's estimates of the stacked dimensions do seem to be rather generous and perhaps they should be revised downward. Yesterday I took delivery of a full load of damp wood for $200 and it stacked against the house about 80 inches long by 95 inches high with an average piece length of about 15 inches. Do the math: that's about 63 cubic feet, not 100 cubic feet as advertised. In the back of the truck, however, it has a loose volume of something like 4 x 8 x 3(+) ft or about 100 cubic feet. Take your pick. Incidentally, nowhere on the website does AF say that the stacked pile for a half load is 1 foot wide as the previous review claims. AF says that a half load is 10 ft long x 4ft high. The wood averages about 15 inches in length and 10 x 4 x 1.25 = 50 cubic feet. I will continue to buy wood from Alpine Firewood because it is good value. He delivers as arranged and will phone you if there is a problem meeting an arranged delivery time (never more than a few hours change in my experience). read more

I will never use Alpine Firewood. Stood up 4 times in 2 weeks. When he finally returned texts/calls, the excuses were just strange, bordering on unbelievable. That, and my wife saw his truck on the island on one of the days he was supposed to come by, but did not. Our communications were always civil, and I always gave him the benefit of the doubt. Whether or not his reasons/excuses were true, from here on in my money stays on island. I'd rather have wet wood from someone that shows up than dry wood from someone that does not. read more

Despite seeing a couple of cranky reviews on this company, I decided to order a load of wood from them anyway, as it looked like a good price, and I realize I am not dealing with Holt-Renfrew, but just buying some firewood. I spoke with Lars who seemed polite and straight foreword. He delivered a full load on time with no drama. It's all old telephone poles and they are clean, dry, and fresh split. When stacked tightly in my woodshed it measured 4 feet high and 13 feet long (by about 15 inches). It probably was 100 cubic feet when loose but not when tightly stacked. Whatever the measurement, I'm happy with it. It's good wood and will last me through the winter for several fires per week, which is what I wanted. The owner was fine to deal with, and I think this is good value delivered to North Van. I will use them again next year. read more

I ordered firewood from Alpine in December 2015. I live in Vancouver. I used to order from a company for 20 years but they closed/retired. So I was looking for a new supplier. I reviewed the prices which I felt were very fair. The delivery was on time on the day that was agreed to. The person delivered the wood placed it exactly where I wanted it. I had no issues at all. I did not see the same angry person that others who reviewed this business experienced. I would order and will order from this business again. The wood burns fine with the appropriate crackling and scent. read more

Wow, I'm so sorry to see the bad reviews! We've been getting our firewood from Alpine for 4 years now. My neighbours on both sides get it from Alpine too, after seeing ours. We all know Lars is a bit of a quirky guy, and he has gotten mad at me before and refused to deliver one year due to a slight misunderstanding, (luckily, we were able to find someone else!) but I must say his firewood is really good! Bone dry, and cut to the right size. Now that the neighbours and I realize what his personality is like, we get a bit of a kick out of him. He's like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld. "No firewood for you!" Anyways, we've not had a problem with him not arriving on time or anything. He comes out the day and time slot that was agreed upon. I'm thankful for his firewood -- it keeps our house toasty warm in winter! Also a good tip: order in the Summer time, and you get a better deal. That's what we do. We've got ours all stacked up ready to enjoy when Fall comes this year! :) read more
