My daughter rented a Nissan Micra from Alpha on July 26th for a short holiday. She was suspicious because it was a five year old tatty car and Alpha insisted on payment up front in cash and was not given a reciept. She set off for Devon but had to return to London because the car was pulling violently to the right. Alpha would not do anything to help and did not even apologise. They are best avoided. Worst taxi experience. Asked the driver if he was booked and gave my name, he said it was him and we got in. Obviously not knowing any different the lying taxi driver drove us 20 or so miles to Milton Keynes. On arrival he gave us the final price. To our horror it was £20+ than the original quoted price. That was on top of our already £10 tip. The driver was rude accusing us of lying, wanting to know what number we booked with etc. After standing our ground it had become apparent due to this companys lying driver he picked up the wrong fare - easily rectifyable if he had said "no he wasn't booked for me" This caused a domino effect for our return journey to which the company Five Twos sorted quickly and understandably. I would STRONGLY recommend anyone looking for a taxt NOT to book this company as they give the impression they will do anything to get a fare. Car was to get to destination in 5 minutes, it arrived in 10.I asked the driver to issue a receipt.He didn't have one. Manager or dispatcher said they will email one and it has been 2 days and no receipt was emailed. I emailed this morning because I said I will email unless then send it within 2 days. No reply to that. I spoke to a dispatcher tonight and they haven't even checked emails. At first he said he was issuing one at the moment then apparently he had to look through a database. He spoke tongue in cheek to me, asking me unrelated questions like 'what was I doing in the custody centre', was I a detainee', though I told him in the first place my destination, the time and the amount charged. I don't know whether this is a one off, but if alpha-cars don't issue receipts is this not tax evasion? Why are they issuing receipts only at request and why don't they ensure they have them all the time? I thought this is a legal requirement. read more

Average 10 minutes late if you book them but Friday booked them to pick me up at 1pm from my office. Office is large on a main road with large clear signs. Taxi driver called office reception at 1:15pm to see I should come out but having glass front building could see no car there. Taxi driver called me, Receptionist and security guard liars. Security Guard said he would walk around building to see if he was at side or back doors which are not in use. No taxi found. Tried to call him back and was told that as I did not come out he had driven off. Called taxi office who told me that I had booked the car for 1pm but had not come out to car at 1:20pm when I told them that their driver had not turned up they called me a liar.
