I am sharing my experience so that no other pet owner has to go through the emotional nightmare and trauma this facility put me and my dogs through.
After being detained on a Friday afternoon, my two small Chihuahuas (a 2-year-old dog and an 11-week-old puppy) were brought here by police. I was released Saturday morning and immediately went to the facility to locate them. I walked through the kennels twice, but due to the overwhelming noise and high volume of dogs in each pen, I was unable to spot them. When I asked the front desk to check their microchips--which had been implanted by this exact same facility just two and a half weeks prior--they claimed they didn't have them and told me to check the other local pound.
The other facility confirmed they 100% did not have my dogs, pointed out how poorly run this branch was, and urged me to go back and check again. Meanwhile, the facility was completely closed to the public on Sunday and Monday.
When I returned on Tuesday, I was finally escorted through the housing units and found my dogs, who were crying and desperate to see me. When we got to the front desk, the manager callously informed me that both of my dogs had been put up for adoption as of 7:00 AM Monday--a day the facility was closed to the public--claiming my "three days" were up. Counting days the facility is completely closed to the public against a pet owner's holding period is an unfair, predatory policy. Furthermore, other staff members explicitly confirmed that closed days are not supposed to be counted toward the hold duration.
When the manager called the adopters to explain the mistake, the adopter of my 11-week-old puppy agreed to return her, but the adopter of my 2-year-old refused--having adopted her blindly off a photo lineup without even meeting her. The facility refused to fix their mistake or enforce the holding period rules properly.
To make matters worse, when I retrieved my 11-week-old puppy, I discovered they had already spayed her. To cover their mistake, they falsified her paperwork, altering her age from 8 weeks (documented by them 2 weeks prior) to 11 months, as it is unsafe and against standard veterinary protocol to perform this procedure on a dog under 6 months.
When I asked to speak with the department manager, I was met with defensive, rude questioning and personal attacks rather than accountability or empathy. I was forced to leave without my 2-year-old dog, completely heartbroken by their negligence and awful management. (Miraculously, my dog escaped from the adopters and found her way back to me 5 weeks later, but no owner should ever have to rely on a miracle to get their pet back from a county shelter).
Key Takeaways / Major Red Flags:
* Conflicting & Unfair Hold Policies: They count days they are closed to the public toward your hold period, giving owners virtually no realistic window to claim missing pets.
* Failure to Trace Microchips: They failed to identify dogs in their care despite having microchipped them internally just weeks before.
* Unsafe Medical Practices & Paperwork Manipulation: Performing surgeries on underage puppies and falsifying official age documentation on release forms.
* Hostile & Callous Management: Management takes zero accountability for staff errors and treats distressed pet owners with disrespect and hostility.
If your pet ends up at this facility, do not take "no" for an answer at the front desk, demand a thorough chip scan immediately, and be aware of their deceptive holding time rules. This facility desperately needs an audit and structural reform, not to mention terminate her employment(the manager.)
