We had an awesome time feeding the alpacas! You can purchase a bag of feed from the store and feed the alpacas in two areas. One section has the female alpacas and males are in a different outside area. The female alpacas we tried to feed were not as interested in us so we tried our luck with the males. The three males at the feeding area welcomed the food. One of them would try to eat out of our hand when one of their buddies is already eating. I recommend wearing clothes that you don't mind having spit on. My husband got some spit splatter on his jacket when we were trying to feed one of the female alpacas. There is a wide selection of items in the gift shop and we left with a stuffed animal that looks just like the voracious eater we met at this ranch. Come have some fun with the alpacas! read more

- A bit remote but worth it - Note: this was written based on my experience in April, 2022. My review was never published mostly due to Internet issue back then ! We were there around 3:30 pm and saw a couple feeding alpacas, so we also purchased a bag for $5 to feed them. It is super cute seeing alpacas up close. They are like little kids and they will make sound to complain if they don't get food. One of them even put his feet on the fence to get higher up to get our attention ! The owner explained that there is a hierarchy for alpacas too so we shouldn't pick who to feed as they will do that based on their hierarchy. The shop is small but the owner explained all products made were remains of the alpacas when they passed away and they weren't killed brutally for the production. We bought a needle felted alpaca and two rabbits made by alpaca fur. They were super cute and fluffy. They also have several cats and a huge guard dog who's super fluffy. He's 6 years old and apparently I wasn't supposed to interrupt him, but he came to me when I called and I touched his fur as he leaned on the fence. The cats were also super cute and they let me touch them as well. The only downside is that it's somewhat remote, we came here after visiting Woodburn premium outlets as they were somewhat close. read more

Who knew the Portland area has alpacas? Anyone?? Well, i happened to stumble upon an article that recommended visiting an alpaca farm and 100% had a great time (look at their faces.. come on). Arriving on a Saturday around noon, we were surprisingly the only visitors. Score! We had one of the worker's undivided attention, and she gave us a lovely introduction to these adorable animals. Super informative talk, and we just had a nice chat overall. Our very own tour guide! They have a small gift shop with plenty of souvenirs for you to purchase. For $5, we also purchased a bag of food to feed three of their boys. So. Cute. One of them sneezed (?) right in front of me, and that's probably the only time I'm okay with a creature doing so. They are also doing their part in the pandemic situation; wiping down the bins, wearing masks, providing hand sanitizer. Two really lovely women! If you have some time in your day to travel the 40ish minutes south of Portland, I would recommend to come here to learn about their alpacas! Alpacas are so cute! This was probably the highlight of our trip to Oregon. The tour is fun and interactive, and you can tell that the owners really care about the animals since they are very hands-on and treat the alpacas as family (they even name their Alpacas and know their specific personalities). Fun stop on our way home from The Oregon Garden in Silverton! Down the gravel driveway is a parking area in front of the store and barn. The owners bring in about 6 alpaca for visitors to feed. The pellet food bags are $4 each (snack size ziploc bags). The owners were very friendly and shared information on alpacas and even had some bags of fleece to let us touch. The alpacas all have very unique personalities...the owners shared their experiences with specific ones. The store is full of handmade alpaca fleece items, including blankets, scarves, gloves, ornaments, etc. There was a variety of alpaca yarn for sale as well. They also give private tours. My experience here at Alpacas at Marquam Hill Ranch exceeded the expectations I had. We decided to stop by because we saw some YouTube videos that Oregon was known for alpacas and this ranch was on the way to our road trip destination. You don't have to reserve anything or pay an entry fee to see the alpacas. But they do offer tours which we wish we could have done if our group was not on a time crunch on our road trip. They also sell alpaca food to feed the alpacas for $5 which is totally worth it and you should get. Feeding alpacas is actually more fun than it sounds. They give you plenty of food to give out. I'd say our group spent a little an hour here just taking pictures, feeding, and petting the alpacas, and checking out their cool gift shop with neat alpaca gear made from alpaca wool. I had no idea alpacas were incredibly soft. The staff there were super welcoming as well. Super knowledgable and you can tell that they love what they do. It's a 45 minute drive from Portland, but if you happen to be in the area or looking for things to do while traveling south from Portland, I highly recommend checking this place out for a unique fun time. read more

My sister always plans an amazing time for us while we're visiting on vacation; THIS plan she made was spectacular! Our visit was very hands on, along with up close and personal. What a sweet trip to Molalla, only a 45 minute drive from Portland where we got to see these incredibly cute alpacas! Jennifer was the most welcoming host, at first I was hesitant because it was raining on the day we visited however Jennifer reassured me that the entire barn is covered and it wouldn't affect our time there. Not to mention Jennifer was interactive with the entire group and made sure everyone's questions were answered, spent good time walking the alpacas, etc. It was an absolute delight to visit such a cute farm with friendly people and a great experience. located in the countryside outside of portland is this hidden jewel. What an amazing experience you should not miss regardless of your age. Our experience was such a joy shared with our family ages ranging from 7 years old to 80 ! Each experienced the wonder and beauty of these animals that was enhanced by the opportunity to learn about them in depth followed by sitting among them as we feed and touched these sweet beauties. It was truly hard to walk away but we ladies were consoled by Shopping! On the ranch is a gift shop that offers not trinkets but beautiful alpaca clothing...... sweaters, scarves, gloves, hats and the sweetest stuffed Teddybears and alpaca's just to mention a few things. The best last minute plans we had the pleasure of partaking in. Had no plans for our last full day in Oregan so I decided to do some research. Had no idea what was going through my head at the time but I stumbled across an Alpaca farm in Molalla- just 50 minutes south of Portland. My boyfriend did some more research and it turns out that they had a Groupon for a 2 person tour for the price of one. Originally it's priced for 16/person but we got a $15 deal for 2 persons. Usually there is a minimum of 2 week advanced booking for their tours but we lucked out when they had a last minute cancelation. You have the option of going just to feed and interact with the alpacas but I highly recommend the tour. I left with a deeper appreciation of both the owners of the farm and the majestic animals. It was great Left with lots of cute pictures and memories. Our tour guide and owner, Jennifer, was amazing and really gave us a sense of her daily routine taking care of her alpaca babies. Five stars all the way. I guarantee that you will leave having seen an alpaca spit, poop, pee, and whine at you. Satisfaction guaranteed. read more

My group and I just left the ranch and we couldn't be happier! We recently discovered this place on the list of must things to do when in Portland and I have to say I'm so glad we did. The ranchers were so extremely kind and attentive to us. We showed up at 3:30pm, right before closing and they took care of us so well even though we had no reservation. We had an opportunity to pet the Alpacas, take plenty of photos of the beautiful area, and yes even feed the Alpacas! The gift shop was full of genuine alpaca wool items; from sweaters, dolls, too scarfs (hypoallergenic). The tour online claims to be 75 minutes, however after about 50 they just put you in the gift shop to buy stuff. Most of the stuff in there is from Peru as well, not the alpacas on the farm. The owners of the farm were extremely nice to us even though we just showed up without any info or prior reservations. They are the nicest people we'd met so far in Portland. It was pretty interesting. My five year old had a blast, but she was a bit afraid during the feeding. She hid behind my chair. She is in love with the alpaca . We got to feed them and walk them around with a leash for about 10 mins. If you are going during the cold weather, make sure to dress warm!!!! The visit to the Ranch was a surprise from my husband and what a delightful time we had! Neither of us knew what to expect. Owner Jennifer, who gave the tour, is wonderful. She is funny, friendly, and full of great information. The alpacas were a joy to touch (when allowed), feed, and walk. I have already told many friends about this wonderful place and we will be sure to take friends and family as often as possible when they visit. BEST TIME EVER. My friend and I found ourselves at a alpaca farm with 81 alpacas on a rainy 9 AM Wednesday morning, an hour outside of Beaverton/Portland. We couldn't leave Portland without visiting the alpaca farm that our local friends had told us about. It was worth coming at 9 AM the day of our flight home. We were so happy we did. We learned a lot of cool fun facts about alpacas. Jennifer was extremely knowledgeable. I especially enjoyed the intimate and personal experience of the Marquam Ranch. It didn't feel like a tourist attraction where the animals were put on for display for profit. We were greeted by the owner who kindly shared the story of how her passion for raising alpacas began and grew. Now she is spreading the joy of alpacas with those fortunate enough to meet these sweet creatures. The tours need to be scheduled so call ahead. We got great groupon deals. It is about 1.5-2 hour longs. It is conducted in a barn (so rain or shine). There is a nice portable bathroom and store. read more

She really took the time to make it personal and welcome you to the farm. My wife also had a wonderful time feeding the alpacas and left very happy. I LOVE alpacas- they're my favorite animal. So when I was in the area and heard there were some alpaca farms near I wanted the best experience. I found Marquam Hill Ranch through their great reviews on yelp and trip advisor which then suggested I purchase the groupon. I did and Jennifer (one of the owners and caretakers of the alpacas) was able to schedule us two days after I bought it, which was so convenient since we were only in town for two more days. Don't do what I did because I hear that tours book quickly! The whole experience was incredible and it was WORTH it! Jennifer was so kind and you can tell she cares so much about the alpacas. The tour was both fun, interactive, and educational. The alpacas were adorable! We were able to feed them and then walk them around the barn. My family went here on a Sunday. My son is OBSESSED with Alpacas so when I seen the Groupon I knew I had to buy it. Jennifer greeted us as soon as we pulled up. We were brought into the store to wait for our tour to begin. The store is pretty nice. It has everything you would expect to see. My favorite was the gloves. They were so soft and warm. Our tour started promptly. The activities are all in the barn so a rainy day wouldn't ruin the trip. We learned all kinds of things. Jennifer is very knowledgeable. We were allowed to feed and pet the Alpacas. We even got to walk them! Everyone had a great time and Jennifer and her husband were great hosts.
