The Belmont Goats

I sincerely hope the City of Roses will always have some iteration of our beloved Belmont Goats…read more This Portland institution is one of the most wholesome, wonderfully wacky, and community-minded attractions to bless our city. If you've never heard of the Belmont Goats, read on! Their story began years ago on a vacant lot on SE Belmont where the goats were originally brought in to clear brush. (Goats are really great at that - 50 goats can clear roughly one acre in 3-5 days) But what started as a practical land management solution, quickly bloomed into something much bigger. The public fell in love with these friendly goats! Over the years the goats have faced their fair share of struggles, but the public has banded together to ensure they always have a safe and reliable home. Because of this community support, the goats have done a fair bit of travel within the city. They left Belmont for several locations in Lents, then moved north to University Park, then made their way to a permanent home in St Johns at Pier Park. I just want to say "thank you" to all the volunteers who have contributed their time, donated money, and advocated for these sweet creatures over the years. The community that has been built around the Belmont Goats says a lot for Portlanders, and our shared appreciation for making our city a friendly and loving place. For the most up-to-date info on the goats, head to TheBelmontGoats.org where you'll find directions, hours, volunteer info, donation opportunities, etc. Pier Park is a fairly large complex, so be sure to use the exact address on North Iris Way. There is parking to the north of the goats, along the side of the street, as well as the community garden parking lot across the way.

I randomly found this gem while looking for things to do in Portland. I found parking on the street…read moreright outside of the street that The Belmont Goats were on as per the website to not park on that specific street. It's free, but donations accepted to help out with the goats. The people running the place were friendly and informative. I was able to pet and brush the goats. The goats were cute, and I enjoyed getting to spend some time with them. :)

Been a bit busy but I'm finally coming around to reviewing my experience at Triskelee Farm…read more We were visiting Portland for the first time and wanted to visit a farm. After a quick Yelp search, we found Trisklee Farm and I'm so glad that we did. I messaged the Yelp business page and Nikki (who is super responsive, BTW) set me up with a reservation promptly. When we arrived for our scheduled tour, Nikki and a couple others (her family members?) were chit chatting in the front and directed us to where we could park. Once we parked, we were welcomed into one of their beautiful barns to check in. The barn was incredible and would be an ideal venue for a wedding reception or big party. Visitors can purchase wine or beer before the tour and to no surprise - we did. Nikki started off the tour by telling us "the story" about how her and her family came together to running a farm. We were able to visit with baby goats, alpacas, ostriches, horses, chickens, pigs, and so many more friends! Nikki was a fantastic tour guide and provided so much insight and knowledge about how to properly care for all the animals on her farm. This is a perfect stop for anyone or any occasion-- groups, families with young children, a date, birthdays, anniversaries -- something special to see or do for everyone at any age. At the end of the tour, we even purchased some of their homemade Lavender Goat Milk Cream and Soap. We absolutely loved our experience from beginning to end and would highly recommend Triskelee Farm to all.

Their tour was running late- by late I mean 40 minutes... so we had to shuffle things around party wise. The tour consists I of seeing the animals. Didn't realize that the Ostrich were there for lol meat purposes. During the tour kiddos got to feed them. They have a few different areas to roam, with some tables. It's a decent sized place. I think it could use some TLC though.

There's activities to explore for the kid in all of us and no one will be saying "I'm bored". The imagination and whimsy will leave you wishing you grew up on the farm. Breathe in the view from Inspiration Point, learn the back yard history on the Wagon Ride, pass Noah's Ark, The Roloff Gotel, with a pit stop at Destination Western Town then view Molly's Castle, and the nationally registered Bridge To No Where. Visit the School House with a working bell, walk through the Haunted Dark Forest. There's lawn games, pan for gold, duck race, and so much more. You can shop in the wedding barn and have a bite to eat from limited food trucks choices. Plan to be there for several hours so get there early so you don't miss anything. The friendly attendants will help you buy a reasonably priced bracelet to enter. Extra cost for pumpkins, zombie paintball, horse drawn carriage, train and wagon rides. Well worth the price.

You can upgrade to $28 for the train ride and something else but we didn't have that much time today to check everything out. They have a live band, food trucks, gift shop and a market place. There is a zombie paint ball fun activity and shooting of cannons at the pirate ship. Over all a wonderful day with beautiful weather. We walked around handing out and hiding beautifully painted rocks to people with a group of people. I was lucky enough to meet a couple of the family members that own the farm as well. I look forward to visiting again soon to check out everything we couldn't see on this visit. Parking is great and a plenty. They have people directing the parking area which is a plus.
