The service here was good and quick. There was indoor seating available though I did carry out two days in a row. We ordered Mojuadara, which I've never had before and it was so delicious. The lentils were seasoned well and we received a hearty portion. It lasted me 3 meals. We got a side of fattoush salad, which was also really good. The next day, we ordered the large fattoush salad, and it was a little too oily and sour compared to the night before. We also ordered the Musaka with onions and this was my least favorite. The eggplant was too oily and the dish was lacking flavor. However the almond rice that came with it was really good. We also got lentil soup that came as a side that was good. We ordered side of cabbage salad and it was similar to the fattoush salad but less sour. Finally, we ordered the chicken shawarma and the shish ta wool sandwiches. They were also good. Ordered a chicken kabob as carry out. The chicken looked burnt and was very dry. The lentil soup tasted odd so I didn't eat it. The bread is not made on site like one of their competitors. I had to wait twice as long as they said. They were more focused on the people who had large orders. It has a few tables but I can tell it's primarily for carryout. Their fattoush, chicken and hummus look appetizing, so does their salmon gallaba and their fatta with chicken. Ordered the chicken gallaba, spicy with lentil soup, a regular hummus and a chicken kafta with lentil soup and a regular size fattoush. The hummus is smooth and tasty, devoured it with their piping hot pocket bread, which was soft and billowy and so perfectly paired with the hummus. The fattoush is good, dressing is slightly tart and so refreshing. The dressing has that famous pink coloring made from beet juice. The lentil soup tastes good, has some chunks of lentil that must have clumped up in the process, strange at first, but tastes fine still. The chicken kafta is super moist and has a nice flavor from the onion and parsley and other seasonings too. I really enjoyed it and so like that they have a poultry version of the kafta, as the lamb and beef kafta always looks so good to me, but I don't eat any red meat at all. The chicken ghallaba is tasty and the chicken is also moist. Sauce is rich and flavorful. The food was all quite flavorful, perfectly cooked and so yummy. On our last visit we Just left after spending at least15 minutes at the table with only one other table in the entire restaurant occupied, and nobody coming up to offer water or take our order. This is a great little Middle Eastern restaurant in West Bloomfield. I frequently get takeout from here. The last time I got the combo for 4 which includes 2 tawook, 2 kabobs, 2 kaftas and 2 chicken kafta, chicken and meat shawarma. It's safe to say it's enough food for a lot more than 4 people - for multiple meals even. It comes with hummus, rice, and salad. The meat is always excellent quality and the hummus is amazing! The staff has been a bit rude from time to time, hence the 4 stars. In terms of dining in, it is decently sized for small and large parties. It is quite easy to work here with a lot right side the restaurant. I do also recommend checking out the bakery next door! read more

It was here that I had my first shawarma sandwich, dip of hummus, toum experience (the garlic) and many other authentic dishes. I started going here before I could drive. After school I would ride my bike to get a sandwich and now, I bring all my friends and family, as this is still my go to spot. I have catered multiple house parties and several corporate events and cannot even begin to count how many times I have dined in! As I look. back on 25 years of dining at Al Oumara, I can't help but feel grateful for the countless meals and full happy bellies it has brought me and my family. Went late on a Friday evening with four people and had no wait (though the restaurant was still fairly crowded). Friendly staff served us quickly and brought complimentary pickled turnips--yum and purple! We got hummus and baba ganoush, which were both rich and creamy and came with hot, soft rolls. We got two combos meant for one person and each was enough food for two people. The kufta/kabob combo had juicer meet (shwarma combo came with kind of dry meat). I used to order food from here when I was in high school and college because my parents lived about a mile away. I now live in South Carolina and every time I'm visiting I try to order from here. There is something about their fattoush salad and shish Taouk and humus that I love. my parents have moved to another area of town but I still make a point to come back here because I have not found a place down south that fills this void! I used to love this place, but never again will I go to this restaurant again. I paid for an order online and when I got there they said I never paid for it. I had to make them feel dumb and show them the charge on my card. Also the food is not how it used to be. I ordered a meal and added a side of grilled veggies. I had a grilled yellow pepper with the seeds still in it, one tiny piece of onion and one tiny piece of a carrot and a piece of tomato that was not grilled. These cooks are lazy. Very family-owned feel at this location. I placed my order online and it was ready in about 10 minutes. When I got there, the food was complete, so no extra waiting! I ordered hummus with chicken shawarma + an extra side of garlic sauce. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the humus was soooo smooth and creamy !My only qualm is that I wish I had ordered more pita! I lived around the corner from al oumara most of my life, so my family and I are/were regulars. When we are in town , we eat there several times...family custom! I'm in Cali now and we wanted to provide some food for a funeral not far from the restaurant I called and placed an order for 2 family size trays to be delivered ASAP! , and when it was time to pay, their credit card machine failed and I was worried the food wouldn't get delivered or it wouldnt work out. However, without even knowing who we are, ( I think it was the owner) still delivered ALL the food without yet being paid which was really kind, and when the machine came back on, I was able to pay so everyone was taken care of. So far really good! First time here and I got in just before closing so they were rushing but I was impressed with what I got!! I got a "vegetarian fatta" which I thought was like fattet bitengan (eggplant fatta) but it also had cauliflower in it. It was surprisingly great though!!!! Loved it- and huge!! Great flavor just the right amount of garlic too. Then I also decided to order their lemon chicken and rice soup. They gave me the end of it and offered me lentil instead but I already know lentil soup and wow I'm glad I tried the chicken rice- it was SO good!! I went o this location on 4-15-22 to purchase a 1/2 dz bread and garlic sauce to compliment a meal I had prepared. When I ordered the same person handling my payment went and picked up my bread with his bare hands????? yuk! Then he had the nerve to come back with my order as if I was going to take it!! so I would not make a scene I asked him to step to the side and I discreetly asked for another order that he had not used his bare hands to get. IDK what he said in his language to another employee but someone with gloves grabbed my bread which seemed like an improvement but I still wondered why they just don't use tongues like other middle eastern restaurants I have visited that you can see how the bread is prepared and served. As I kept a close eye on my product to make sure it was being handled safely I noticed a waitress that was working use her bare hands to pick up bread to put on a plate to serve to a table. Absolutely disgusting. This is obviously a common practice here and If they are doing this with the bread I could only imagine what Is happening in their kitchen. I will never come here again. My family has spent more money on food at this restaurant than any other middle eastern place in the city. Best food, authentic- reflective in the aesthetic as well. Like I stated in my earlier review, ive been coming here for 16 years. But I'm writing this update now because I think this place deserves it. Yesterday my friends and I went to Al-Oumara for dinner. Its the month of Ramadan so we were going to break out fast at sunset (9:02pm on this day). I called ahead and ordered. So when we entered the restaurant at 8:55pm, they had the whole table set up with plates, napkins, glasses of ice water, and a plate in the center filled with dates (the fruit that muslims break their fast with). So I'm already impressed because I didn't ask for any of this. Exactly at 9:02pm (without me having to tell them), the waitress brought a plate of hummus and fresh baked bread straight out of the oven along with the Mediterranean flavor chicken wings i ordered (wings tossed in a garlic/lemon herb sauce).The minute we were finished with the appetizers, she brought out our maple tray platter we ordered. The food was perfect. Tasted excellent. My friends wiped the platter clean to the point that you would think someone ran it through a dishwasher. But I just wanted to update this review to compliment the excellent service. I forgot to ask her name but it was a young female server and she deserves credit. She checked on us several times throughout the dinner. Also, the owner is a really nice guy. Prime example of this is whenever I ask for some toasted nuts to put on my rice or some extra garlic sauce or bread (carry-out), the waiters dont really cooperate at all. Anytime I ask him, he hooks it up automatically. No questions asked. He also makes sure you get the best of the best when he's walking around the restaurant and sees you, especially if you have a larger group. Oh and I'm almost certain the food tastes even better when he's present at the restaurant. Idk if he does anything in the kitchen or not or if the chefs just try harder when he's around. read more
