It's always a plus when the beef patty is seasoned and the grave doesn't taste like they just did an instant gravy from a bag. I can say that what I ordered was made with aloha! I'm really disappointed with how far Aloha Specialty has slipped. The quality has dropped drastically. The mix plate was a letdown across the board -- the chicken was dry (even though it was dark meat), the beef was tough and gristly, and the mahi-mahi was just barely passable. Even the rice was off: clumpy, overly wet, and unappetizing. My husband's local plate wasn't any better. The beef was extremely dry with a jerky-like texture, and the chicken was just as bad. The spam musubi was another miss: a very thin slice of spam buried under way too much rice. Sad to see a place that used to be solid go downhill like this. read more

I've been coming here since I was in HS. My hands down go to of all time is a chicken bowl that is skinless and teri sauce on the side. I'll usually take a water or Hawaiian Sun if I can spare the carbs. I never finish the serving of rice. So it makes for a meal later. I'll spice it up and get onions and shrooms too. The drill is you order and pay at the counter, they give you a number, and they bring your food to your table when it's ready. It's casual within reason. I wouldn't show up looking like a slob first impressions being what they are. I chose the Kalua Pork and cabbage served with mac salad and rice . I know this dish well, and it was spot on. It's a lot of food, so bring your appetite if you order this. This place reputedly gets very crowded at peak times. I arrived at 1:30 p.m. for a late lunch without any wait. As a tradition within our family, this place is always our last meal before we hit the freeway back to LA. Located on the 2nd floor of the California hotel and casino. This place is comfort food paradise with the menu full of Asian, Pacific islander goodies. Our brunch today consist of soup noodles, teriyaki chicken, loco moco and macaroni salad. But, overall was still pleased with my experience. My partner and I visited at about 9am and it wasn't crowded at all. The options/menu are simple and easy to choose from. I enjoy savory dishes even for breakfast so I went with the chopped steak while my partner got her usual eggs and vienna sausage. It definitely feels like back home. The plates were huge especially with rice and can easily be shared between two people, they have a sign at the register to request half rice. My chopped steak was delicious especially with the Mac salad and tobasco. My partner also enjoyed her breakfast. They give quite a bit of rice to the point where they have signs about half-rice portions, but all I can remember is the really slow service. The menu reminds me too much of Hawaii for me to really seek this out while out-of-state, but if you must have your local food, at least you get a ton of white rice which I can't complain about. read more
