This is a follow up to the owner Mike's response to my bad review. I guess he is not a local store because he stated that I went to Home Depot to buy a string trimmer. I stopped at his business first before going to Home Depot . One would think that employees that depend on his business to survive and live, would provide better customer service. Poor service is a reflection of poor management and training and I guess that is Mike's responsibility. When I went to Home Depot, I was greeted upon entering and 3 employees greeted me in the store and one of them helped me get the Echo string trimmer that was locked in the cage. I guess you can be arrogant and obnoxious like Mike if you took over a business from your dad. His dad left and opened small engine clinic and his brother Adam left but returned. It is just amazing Mike didn't run the business into the ground. Another bad experience is when they were at Sand Island. I went to get a clutch for a 8hp engine. He asked what equipment it came off of. I told him I do not know because it is on a home made go kart. He told me that he is not a go kart store. I told him what do you think go karts are made of? Had to explain to him that it is lawn mower engines, tires, and cables. After looking stupid in front of customers and employees he went and got the clutch. I have nothing against him personally and after all his ignorance and sarcasm in the past I was still willing to purchase equipment from his business. I am glad I looked on Google and saw his lame response so that I could respond back. Thank goodness there is the internet to get parts cheaper and shipped to your home instead of dealing with dummies. On Google he stated I do not support local business and do not care about local working people and their families. No, my review deals with good and bad experiences with business and he gets what he deserves. I went in looking for a string trimmer and reminded Mike that I know him since 1993! I'm in my 70's now so I wanted something lighter than my old Shindaiwa T27. On Mikes recommendation I sold in 20 minutes on Facebook Marketplace. So cash in hand I went over to get a Husqvarna Yesterday. Mike had the patience of a Saint because I asked him the show me every possible brand!. You're not going to get the selection and personal service at a big box store. Been using the Craftsman 25cc weed whackers forever and frustrated with the reliability. My brothers kept telling me to get a Shindaiwa, they love it... So there was a 20% off sale, I went down and found a 10 deep line to get in due to COVID. I came back and only two in line. got in Service was great, they asked how I was using it. Bought the smallest 21cc. they filled it with gas and started it up quick and easy... My turn put the choke on like he said and pulled and pulled, took off the choke and pulled and pulled...still having trouble to start it... The KILL SWITCH was on... Switched it on and one pull ... Runs great more than ample power for my yard. 5 year warranty for residential, 2 years for commercial application... read more

I like to give this place 5 stars because my 20 year old Shindaiwa weed eater finally gave out, so my husband and I decided to go their for a new one. After checking out several different models we ended up purchasing a Maruyama weedeater, David helped us out and and let us know about the upcoming memorial day sale but we needed the weedeater that week, he gave us a discount that helped with the cost. Unfortunately, 3 weeks later, someone stole our weedeater off our back porch. So once again, we went back to them and purchased a second weedeater from them. We told them what happened and we were given a discount on the price as well. That really helps because these things are not cheap. I've had two negative experiences in a row with Aloha Power Equipment trying to charge me more for their equipment and services. They sell good equipment, but you have to keep your guard up with them so they don't overcharge you. Most recently, I've been interested in buying their Echo model 2013 chipper/shredder that they've regularly price at $1,699. I decided to wait for their Veterans Day sale to purchase it. When I visited (today) for the sale, they had removed the price tag, so I had to ask them for their sales price. The agent said 'let me check with my manager', and came back 10 minutes later and told me that it retails for $2,000, but they'd give me 10% off, allowing me to buy it for $1,800.... Come on folks... So I just walked out. Prior to this, they were servicing some equipment and tried to charge me for work they'd done two months ago (replacing the carb). When I called them on it, they pulled my service log up in the computer and said 'oh yeah, maybe something's loose' and withdrew their recommendation for service. A good place, but keep your guard up. read more

Long wait time for repairs (two months), their technician is having health issues. Diagnostic fee up front which would be included with total repair. Love the new showroom/warehouse, it was so big and roomy. The young man who helped my husband purchase a new weed eater was very kind and helpful without being pushy. The older man, seemed like the owner or manager, came over to also assist and answer questions but let the young man do his thing. They also told us about an upcoming sale so that we knew if we wanted to wait we could but we needed the weed eater pretty badly so we got a good deal and will return for an accessory that my husband was interested in. read more

Took my Shindaiwa grass trimmer in because it didn't have any power. I figured a good tune up & cleaning. Their mechanic Al told me it was probably the exhaust screen was clogged. It was an easy task and he told me what to do. Instead of charging me for an unnecessary tune up, they offered free advice. I did buy a new spark plug and air filter and will do the maintenance myself. The only reason it's a 4 star is because the parts guy, although friendly and helpful, seemed a bit overwhelmed and confused (it was busy). Other than that it was a great experience. By the way, the picture of the guitar with AC/DC is a display in the showroom. read more

Not sure how this place stays in business, and how they have a dealership license. Although they have the best spread of equipment on island, they are a monopoly and so can be as apathetic, price-gouging, and poor / nonexistent service as possible, and that's exactly what I have seen the many times I have visited. After working for a Nissan dealership for 8 years, I feel if Honda knew they would have pulled their license long ago. You walk in and the dog is the only one who greets you. Prices are outrageously high making Home Depot or Amazon much better options. If you ask for assistance good luck. I took my trimmer for a new gas filter and it sat for 2 weeks. When I inquired, it hadn't been touched and they couldn't tell me when they would get to it. I took it back, bought the filter and used a paper clip to pull the old one out, and change it in 10 minutes. Sad. They also didn't seem to know about the design defect of my Honda mower too (won't back up). I had to show them the factory service memo that said to fix it for free (which they didn't). They couldn't even find the right part to order. I ended up going to the only other mower shop to order it. And the oriental manager is just plain rude and said "We don't have that." before she even knew the part I was asking about. With other reviewers getting apologies when they complained to the manager or owner, I don't see why things have not changed, and it's the poorest excuse for a dealership I have ever seen. In good conscience I hope they turn things around, for their sake and ours. I gave 1 star because the dog greeted me! read more

Im a Black food truck owner and I deal with people everyday so I understand customer service and this place has the worst... I've recently purchased a brand new truck that was built in Indiana and shipped here to the island and it has been a very exciting time for me, last thing I needed was a generator. I eventually chose the EU 7000 from Honda, a $5000 purchase. I came in and talked to a salesman on a Friday and was told it was going on sale Monday, so I came back Monday to buy and the kid I talked to was cool but when I got to the register this old homeless looking guy had a problem with my ID, told me that I was trying to pull fraud on them. Said it had to be an Hawaiian ID to purchase, so I pointed out that even though it was a Florida Drivers license it has an Hawaiian address and that Hawaii is one of the States that you can do that in. And this is b4 he ask how I was paying, his next problem was that I was using a business card to buy that didn't have my name on it, so I said run I debit and I'll punch in the code and he just started making a scene and said I was trying to pull fraud again... Told me I would have to get cash or bring in my business partner who's name was on the card. Next day come in with her and everything was going smooth until he sees me and rushes straight over to the cashier, saw that she had a Florida license also and said he wouldn't sell to us, even though her name was on the card and it was a bank of Hawaii card, this guy fought with us for 20 mins with no real reason not to sell to us but kept saying that we would burn him with fraud and that we could only purchase with cash. What really sucks is that this is the only place on island to get this generator in the time frame that I needed it, it can't be shipped because of the battery installed on it. I've lived on Oahu for 6 years and this has been my first bad experience with being judged because of how I looked. And the reason that I'm so upset about it is because that Monday when I went to buy, the guy in front of me bought the same generator and used a card with not one issue... I was pretty apprehensive walking in here. I needed a Honda generator In case of Hurricanes or to power movie on the beach next year. I called around and they all said APE was the only place that sells the Honda. I did my research but when I saw a whole bunch of gruffly mean behind the counter I was almost afraid to ask for help. So I walked around the place with that I'm looking for something demeanor. I went to the counter and asked someone behind it but he was a customer. A usual walked in calling the employees by their names. I felt disconnected. Then lo and behold a dude, later identified as Charlie, came to my aid. He was such a normal looking guy I thought he was a patron also when i first saw him. Anyway we had a fine discussion about generators. He answered all my questions thoroughly and I was made aware that the best time to buy is during their Anniversary Sale around every November 15. My future purchase will have saved around $400. read more

Just the other day I went to this place I haven't visited in over 7 years I went back to them because my first experience with them was good nothing bad to say but this time around the older man that helped me was just okay he took some time to look at my machine but just a quick glance at the part that I needed to buy and we both cam too the same conclusion the size was small so he gave me the part he didn't even hold it next to the broken one too see if it was the same size but I don't think anything of it because I trust him because he seemed like he knew what he was doing so I bought two the parts didn't cost much only about $12 but it took me about 1 hr round trip to stand in line behind only one other person for about 10-15 min while the older man and the customer talked not happy read more

I will give a proper explanation when I have a minute.. turns out, they care very much about their business, the manager apologized and just did not realize what he had done.. They took care of me and my family more than you could imagine.. previous experience: As a business owner, i know the last thing you ever want is a bad review. I could not possibly allow this experience to go un-shared. My European Father in-law wanted to give me a gift of a Husqvarna lawn mower. He found them at Lowe's. In trying to keep the business local, we looked up Husqvarna to see if there are any local dealers. We found Aloha Power Equipment, and decided to call. When the phone rang, I asked if they had Husqvarna mowers in stock. He gave me a very rude and sarcastic correction of their name. I figured he might be having a bad day, so I ignored it. After he was done delivering my ignorance with the name he said, "we sell their products", "is that all?". I asked for the price of the mower and he said, "their about $400 and up". that was 10% more than Lowe's, just to support local business we decided to go there. We decided to drive there to purchase the mower. When we arrived, myself and my father in law walked in and asked for Husqvarna again. He looked us in the face, laughed out loud sarcastically at us and pointed over to the area where the display was. We looked over there, didnt see a single mower and walked back over to ask if they had them in a different area. More sarcasm, from him.. "if its not there, we dont have it in stock". Then he says "what are you, Swedish?" hahahaha I asked if he could just tell us if they have it on Island. He said Waipahu probably has it. I had to ask for him to check. He called The Waipahu store and said "Hey, some Sweedish guy is requesting Husqvarna". They spent over a minute making little jokes and laughing hysterically on the phone while we were 10 feet away. He treated us like he was racist.. Is this how foreigners are treated? By the looks of the reviews, it is allot others too.. Most of my childhood buddies would have punched this guy in the face within minutes.. Such a shame.. Worst experience I have ever had in a local business in my life. On November 10, 2019 Sunday I went to purchase an attachment for a power gardening tool they had been out of stock of. After paying for my purchase, I noticed I had been overcharged by $310+. I was charged for not only the attachment, but again for the power tool we had bought previously. So I stood back in line for a refund (there was a big sale that day so I waited about an hour in total) they were unable to refund me and said they would call me the next day because the machine was down. I waited til Tuesday evening, no one called, so I called them and they asked for my cc # again to no avail. They also tried to refund my husband's card as we have the same acct. I called my bank and they stated no attempt was made for a refund. Finally the manager at Waipahu Aloha Power Equipment said he would mail out a refund check on Monday November 18, 2019. I called after a few days bc we hadn't received any refund in the mail (I'm a 20+ yr postal worker so I know it only takes one day) It is now Tuesday November 26, 2019 and we still have not received a refund. We didn't know much more about a weed whacker, except that we wanted a better one! They had manufacturer reps there to explain and give all the info we needed! Went there on Nov. 10, 2017 anticipating buying 2 Stihl weed eaters for both my homes ( their not cheap ) Uproached the front door that was blocked by a pallet of Honda Inverters. I asked both reps unloading the pallet if I could go in and with a less than friendly response said yes. I went in and walked around for 10 minutes or more and non of the reps inside bothered to ask if I needed help finding anyting, I even flagged a couple of reps but I kept being ignored ( the store wasn't unusually busy for a Sales Day that was heavily advertised on the radio ) The gal at the front door unloading the pallet who saw me walk in immediately greeted a older Japanese couple if they needed help finding anything. Wow, and she passed me by more then twice and never offered assistance. Frustrated, I approached the older Japanese lady behind the desk. . . She looked like the manager and mentioned to her of what I was experiencing and that I was about to change my mind about buying the 2 Stihl weed eaters, She looked straight at me and said OK. . . just like that, as if to say we don't need your business ( the store wasn't full or busy ) Wow, I'm a business owner as well and that kind of service and treatment to my precious customers from those that work for me will no longer have a job. I hope the store owner cares as much for the customers because losing 1 customer slowly at will be felt in the long run. read more

My dad was looking to purchase a lawn equipment and the guy at Aloha Power Equipment was great on helping us. We were looking to buy one of the stihl chainsaws and was looking for the unopened, unassembled chainsaw as we were going to ship it out of the state. They didn't have the boxed ones, but the guy there was nice enough to help us take the chainsaw apart and place it in a box. He even assisted us on choosing the oils and chain sharpener. All in all, we were happy with the purchase and the process was quick. If I could give this place lower I would!!! I take my shindaiwa blower there to have it looked at because it won't start, and it's only 4 months old. They tell me warranty should cover it. A month later they call me to tell me it will be $150+ to fix!!! Why would I pay to fix it when it cost less than that to buy a new one??? I am very disappointed with their parts personnel . Asked to see if they had hard parts for a Briggs and Stratton engine he said they do tried locating the m/n # type and code . Talked to 2 different employees the both told me wrong locations. Found the number on the pull crank housing. Finally called them back still with about a 1hr and a1/2 left till they close. He said he will call me back no response I'm sure they have computers to look up parts it's sure taking a long time.. I'm so torn about writing a negative review based on a phone conversation but the interaction bothered me so much that I want to put it out there! Being a small business owner and my life depending on my Honda eu2000i generator I knew that someday I was going to have to reach out to the local dealer. Well unfortunately that time has come as the pull cord broke at an event so I needed help asap. I called the Honda power equipment dealer in town as that was much closer than Waipahu. The guy who answered the phone told me they were back two weeks on repairs. I told him that generator was my life line and asked if there was anyway I could get it done faster and that I need it badly for events this weekend. His response was "ohh a food vendor! Yea, but your gonna pay for it and it's gonna be expensive"! As he's saying this I'm picturing him hi fiving his mechanic buddy. He then starts telling me about other problems that they're gonna find and that I can rent a replacement generator at $75/day until mine is done. He's now talking louder as he's getting his mechanic buddy to confirm what he's telling me. After I hung up it took me a second to digest what he said to me and how cocky he was. It makes me so mad to think that he would take advantage of someone who needs help and who's business relys on that machine to survive. As a woman I appreciate a man who is professional and honest. Someone that I feel I can trust to make sure he's looking out for my best interest as a customer. Not one who tries to take advantage of my lack of mechanical knowledge and tries to get every nickel out of me he can. They will never get my business and I will be sure to tell all of the vendors who own Hondas to stay away. I ended up going to another Honda Dealer and got outstanding service!! read more

APE is not the only game in town. Check out Harold's Lawn Mower Repair on Old Waialae Road across from the Humane Society. Best service in town. APE charged me over $100 in repairs on my weed eater that only amounted to a new spark plug, filter, and a new part for the fuel line. I'm embarrassed I couldn't do that myself but now I know to never take it here again. read more
