Aloha Monkey is always the first place I recommend for piercings or ink. I have been going to them for piercings, jewelry, advice, and ink for over a decade now. Every visit is top notch. From the first day I walked in I have been treated like I have been there before, even though I clearly knew very little and was quite young. Tara has done my piercings and been there to help me find/order any jewelry I am interested in. She is beyond professional, courteous, and you can clearly tell she is passionate and knowledgeable about all that she does. I have recommended Tara to several friends who have then seen her and been happy and impressed the same way I have been over and over again. Josh, as an artist, and an owner does a great job of keeping on top of everything and keeping good people in the shop with passion, talent, and the desire to be there and the desire to take care of each customer in the best way every time. I have many friends and acquaintances that have had work done here and all of them are extremely satisfied. Aloha Monkey is a professional shop with talented and great people. Their prices reflect that. Whether its piercings or ink. The following is a quick break down of all reviews I see about shops. I see a type of review or hear feedback about REAL tattoo/piercings shops that they are overpriced or don't seem to listen. A few things in those regards. If you want a basic and cheap piercing with no guidance and poor quality jewelry, there are plenty of hole-in-the-wall shops, or Claire's to walk in to... If you are not happy with the design of your tattoo or price, continue to work with the artist until you are satisfied. No artist in any industry wants someone walking around unhappy with their product. With tattoos, if you are not happy, the change has to happen before hand... negative reviews/feedback come from people who are not happy and lay down on the table or sit down in the chair and let the artist move forward with something they(the customer) are not actually happy with... it is your decision.. you can always change it before hand, or ultimately leave... And if you see the final work and are unhappy, speak up. Address it then, it does no one any good to lie about your feelings about the work done. Personally I would never move forward with a permanent change to my body in any regards or at any level unless I was happy with everything as a whole... for those of you who sit down in the chair and proceed forward, you are at fault here... That being said, I hope you take the time to visit this shop and actually take the time to speak with the good folks here. They are a great shop, talented people, and will listen to and respect your opinions and work with you towards finding the best solution to either your new piercing you are desiring or the new ink addition you have saved up for. I want to start off by saying I grew up in a family where tattoo artists and body piercers made up the majority of the family members. I've had numerous piercings and tattoos over the years and spent a lot of time in tattoo shops. I've had numerous piercings by numerous piercers at multiple different shops and by far love Tara and Steve to anyone I've ever been pierced by. Tara and Steve are both super friendly and very respectful and professional. I've also been tattooed by several artists over the years. With all but two of my tattoos being by the artists at Aloha Monkey. Josh Arment, the shop owner, has done the vast majority of my tattoos. Most recently he completed an entire full color back piece on me which is my favorite tattoo I have. He has also done tattoos on the tops of both my feet. Palmer, Gabe, and Kenny have also done work on me. They all did very solid, clean, great work! All the artists there do amazing work. I've spent a lot of time in the shop with these people and seen tattoos that they've all done. Josh Arment has one hell of a solid group of artists in his shop. Other reviews have talked about prices of tattoos and people saying their too pricey here. I don't know Wtf is wrong with people. The only $20 tattoo anyone is going to get any where is a piece of $h!t tattoo. Prices of tattoos at Aloha Monkey are more than reasonable. I decided at 35 years old it was time to get my first tattoo. After searching the internet for tattoo shops in Minnesota I decided that Aloha Monkey was in my top 3. Based on their online portfolio and that the shops lineage is something to have a conversation about. I stopped in and I knew my search for a shop and artist had ended. I had a unique idea for a 3/4 sleeve (go big or go home) involving rosemaling. Krista (super friendly and professional) at the front desk brought my idea to Josh. Josh and I discussed a plan, I set up the appointments. I must say I was super nervous, Josh and EVERYONE I met at Aloha Monkey was friendly, professional, and helped to make me feel totally comfortable. Pricing was exactly what I expected for exceptional artwork. When I stopped back months latter the staff greeted me by name! I was shocked that's amazing, you don't get customer service like that anywhere. This may be my one and only tattoo but it is an incredible piece of art. I am complimented on it daily. Well, maybe Josh is the one to get for tattoos. Unfortunately some other artist did my tattoo (not my first tattoo). When he was working on it, I had this odd sense that he was driving the needle too far. Sure enough I now have a tattoo with "blowout", where the ink has penetrated below the skin into a layer of fat, where it spreads out. Tattoo with blurry edges. Pic below is about a week after, much worse now, e.g. character at top has a 1/8" flowing tail, should be a straight line. Spoke with some of the staff and they said it's probably bruising. Give it a month. Nope, 2 months later no change. They refused to believe there was such a thing as blowout -- guess they don't know Google. They don't care that this is on my body, they have my money and don't give a f... Not sure what to do at this point. From what I've read, blowout can take years to disappear. Was thinking maybe adding some light gray lines to top edges to give impression of light shining onto the tattoo. -- Signed, Severely Bummed in MN read more

I first went to this shop to get a tattoo cleaned up that was done from a tattoo shop in minneapolis that i thought was well known and had good clean work. after it was healed you couldnt even tell that it was a group of flowers it just looked like a bunch of colors, but the guys at Aloah Monkey told me what needed to be done to it to make it look like actual flowers! i am currently in the process of getting a tattoo completely done by these guys and i could not be happier and excited to finally complete my sleeve though the Aloah Monkey. his is easile the best most professional talanted tattoo shop in MN. it also has an amazing history behind it and its easy to see that they have been taught this art through the best of the best, also if you are not quite sure what you are looking for they will take the time and help you figure it out. if you dont go to to the Aloah Monkey youre not getting the best tattoo that you could, that will forever be on your body. read more

The Aloha Monkey Tattoo Shop is incredible! It's very clean and modern. My experience with the Staff was great. This was my first Tattoo experience. It started with a Consultation. I gave Josh my Tattoo ideas. We discussed the details and made an appointment to have him do my new Tattoo. My appointment went GREAT! Josh had the Tattoo Artwork ready. It was spot on! His vision combined with the ideas of what I wanted, Josh produced Artwork that was exactly what I was looking for! I'm 6 foot tall and 250lbs. Josh created a Full Color Tattoo Masterpiece that covers my upper Arm in 3 (THREE) hours! That's a "One & Done" visit where Josh hooked me up with one VERY COOL Tattoo! My homie drops in and is like, tat this simple thing on my cep. not the cep as in bi, but the cep as in tri. so they tat 4 numbers on my homies cep but somehow it ends up all messed up. weeks go by and my homie is pissed as his tat worsens, it'd be fine if it cost a reasonable price of 50 bucks but these mofos at aloha monkey are bananas yo, they charge my homie ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS. dog, how am I supposed to take these con artists serious? Amazing tattoos ! Clean shop with a great lineage ( sailor jerry Collins , and Mike "Rollo" Malone ) on education ! Gorgeous tattoo work! So friendly and funny, just wanted me to have the best experience possible! The desk people were very attentive to what I needed. Needless to say I only get tattooed at the Aloha Monkey, and now my whole family only get tattooed there, In fact they drive from out of state to come to this shop. I have had my whole back done there and also very small little tattoos but they have always treated me with respect no matter what I'm getting tattooed and help me make good choices for the long term. **This is a REAL REVIEW... 5 years ago, I stumbled on Aloha Monkey after having been to 3 different shops for varies "medium" size tattoo work. I wanted to start a chest and shoulder piece. Fast forward 5 years and add over 30 hours of chair time there; I have 2 chest plates and full arm sleeves (finishing color the second this week actually). My father always told me "you get what you pay for"... I have seen plenty of "tattoos", I certainly have gotten more than what I paid for. I got my first nose piercing here 3 years ago and still love it. Was not painful and healed very well. This review is only about Tara because she is the only one that has pierced me and worked with me. She helped me again recently to find a piece of jewelry for my new piercing and was lovely. She is extremely knowledgeable and professional and her goal is to find you something that you love and that fits you perfectly. Going here for jewelry is more expensive than at Claires for example, but I would highly suggest a tattoo shop, especially this one. I've had multiple tattoos done elsewhere and my last three pieces done here. This is now my tattoo home. It was obvious from my first visit. They didn't just slap a tattoo on my shoulder, they took many things into consideration. Will you continue with a sleeve? Yes. Are you going for a theme as you add to it? Yes. Do you know what that theme is? Not exactly.... So the owner and I deliberated and pondered many things. I could tell throughout the conversation and the first session he was more concerned about me being happy with not only the first tattoo, but the direction the sleeve would be going in and the amount of doors we left open for the rest, than he was about money. I could not have better things to say about this place and it's artists. I walked into my appointment today to an over grown toddler throwing a tantrum at the front desk. The staff brought me back to the artist early so I didn't have to sit up there and listen to it. They were all unbelievably professional in spite of the challenging situation. My tattoo itself looks god damn amazing. Looking at some of the other reviews I've noticed price comes up often. I've been tattooed in a hand full of shops, and you definitely get what you pay for in each. I received my first tattoo from Josh Arment back in 2007 and was recommended to him by a friend. I couldn't be more please with that tattoo. 12 years later I am in the process of receiving a half sleeve and would not recommend a better artist. I moved to Pittsburgh and worked with Josh on the phone and by email and was very accommodating. He allowed me to make the changes I wanted during the first session. He takes so much pride in his work I would recommend to everyone. They also have a new parlor which is super nice, the ladies work up front are super professional and easy to schedule with. I got a septum nose piercing at Aloha Monkey and it was a truly wonderful experience! I would recommend this Tattoo parlor to anyone because the staff is so friendly and kind. The lady who did my piercing was very understanding and patient with me. (I'm actually afraid of needles, so I was so nervous.) I had a great experience. Josh was wonderful. After I had breast cancer and a double mastectomy I decided that I wanted to cover my scars. Josh drew a gorgeous Picture of the flowers I wanted. he was very patient and made sure I understood exactly what he was going to do. I love the tattoo and I'm very glad that I did it. When I needed some more surgery on my breast Josh fix the tattoo for free. My tattoo has made a big difference in how I feel. It makes me feel more like a survivor unless like a victim read more
