By far the worst shop I've been to. And I've been to a lot of them. That's not to say no one in this place is worth a damn. Matt, the piercer, kicks ass. (He's the only reason for the second star... Apparently not all the tattooers suck, either, but I got some sketch work.) I hate it and that sucks because the tattoo itself has a lot of meaning to me. I went in knowing what I wanted and how I wanted it. The person who tattooed me told me my font wasn't possible cause I didn't have a stencil for him. What the f*** kind of artist can't draw something they are looking at?! (I had two pictures of the writing I wanted) Then, after I picked a different style with a downloadable font and brought it back on my laptop, he informed me they didn't have wifi so I couldn't print or send the image to him in the shop. WHAT?? I had to go to a cafe with wifi to email him the effing image. Finally, I get back to the shop and he's received something to copy and just trace on my body (yeah, my dumb ass should have walked away) and then tells me I can't curve it around the top of my foot. He says it should go along the bottom outside edge all straight. Funny thing is... I've seen what I wanted done before (again, should have walked out). Then he puts the stencil on *completely* crooked twice (no big deal, usually has to be re-placed!). It's not an incredibly awkward spot. Just some writing. Acts annoyed as hell when I ask him to straighten it. Sweet. Then makes the font super thick, telling me it won't hold if he doesn't. It looks like total shit. I'm having it covered. read more

My husband and I got matching tattoos, left forearm in the middle of October. We went, and everyone was really nice and the shop was really clean. Price was 200 for ours, so a pretty pricey, but it wasn't too bad. My husband's tattoo only took about 10 minutes and turned out great. Mine however, didn't turn out so well. I went before my husband, and mine took at least twice as long, and has quite a few noticeable flaws. They're strictly outline tattoos, with no shading, so it's very easy to see the discrepancies in the lines in mine. I'm not going to lie, i'm kind of disappointed at how mine turned out. Frog did great on my husbands, but not as well on mine. And they don't let other people back there with you while you're getting your tattoo (which was new for my husband, who's had quite a few), and was sad for me, since it was my first tattoo. All the people were honestly great, everyone was really nice and friendly. I just am pretty disappointed that Frog didn't do very well on my tattoo, when he clearly was capable of doing great as he did on my husband's. read more

Aloha Monkey - Tattoo Near Me - Burnsville, Minnesota

Analyn was my tattoo artist and let me tell you, she was amazing. From the consult to the actual appointment, I have no complaints. This is a very busy tattoo shop, and patience is a must. I sent her my ideas and she created the most beautiful tattoo I have ever seen. She is incredible. She is very professional and redid the stencil three times because it was not perfect. When I am looking for a tattoo artist that is what I want. Every arm is different and you can't slap on a stencil and call it good. I want perfection and she delivered. I still look at the piece of art on my arm and I am in awe every time. She is so talented and I can not recommend this shop enough. During the sensitive areas (elbow area) she hyped me up and got it over with quickly, yet efficiently. She constantly checked on me to make sure I was okay. Pricing is whatever when it comes to art. If you want to pay a mediocre price then you are going to get a mediocre tattoo. You get what you pay for and we talked price before I even sat down. I will be returning to Analyn for my future tattoos. read more

This review is for a piercing. They took me as a walk-in and were able to look up my gift card even though I forgot to bring it in! Saw me super fast and did a great job on my piercing. My only problem was the ball on the piercing jewelry was not secured well and fell off less than 24 hours after getting the piercing. I had to go back in to get another ball placed, which was free of charge, but inconvenient. read more

This place doesn't care about covid precautions. The lady who was going to pierce my nose refused to wear a mask. She was also rude and had an attitude. The place felt unsanitary and if you're looking for somewhere that is covid safe 100% do not go here. read more

Me and a friend do a walk in appointment and they said it should be too long. We sat outside the store and walked in, went to get some food. After the 2 and a half hour wait they finally get to us. The guy asked me knowing I'm younger if $150 is a fair enough price. I said sure whatever. Tattoo took 10 mins and I could have done it if I wanted too. Never coming back. Place takes advantage of younger clients and over charges. read more

I try to be understanding of businesses considering covid is a difficult time, but this place truly disturbed me. multiple people, both STAFF and customers not wearing masks/wearing masks incorrectly. this is public endangerment, so unsanitary and disrespectful while people are dying of covid. i understand they can't always control what customers do, and that sometimes masks slip off the nose, but there were staff members that didn't have any sort of mask on their face at all. DO NOT COME HERE!! read more

Over priced and arrogant. I have had tattoos done at 2 other shops and found the prices at Aloha Monkey to be 50% higher than other shops and the artist to be arrogant and condescending. They were the only shop in town at one time and could probably get away with it, but there are more options now..... read more

Waste of time and money! Ripped off on my daughters birthday! Called the night before to ask if they would pierce my daughters nose the next day for her birthday. They said yes no problem and told us walk ins noon to 5 the next day. So on her 14th birthday we drive 35 min to the shop to be told no minors until after hours appointments. This info over the phone when we called the night before would have been useful. So we put a deposit down to come back the same day 5 hrs later to get it done. Drive all the way home and back up to be there at 5. Sign in go back and they start talking about piercing her ears. I said what this is for her nose. They say oh we can't do noses for under 16. So my daughter of course is disappointed and says oh well I'll just get my ears done for now. I'm not going to say no at this point bc it's her bday and she has now driven 140 mins between 2 round trips. On top of that they charged 180 bucks for basic ear piercing that's way over priced and not what we even came for. I bring it up to both the lady up front who is the one who messed this whole thing up. And she shrugs it off and the piercing lady just says yea the owner won't let us. I've had 5 tattoos here and after this horrible incompetence horrible rip off and waste of so much time on her birthday I would go elsewhere. Wish the owner was there when I was done because I sure had a lot to say to his face. read more

I've been going to aloha monkey for years for multiple of my piercings and even a tattoo. I've never had a bad experience and whenever I needed help or had an after care question I always felt like I could reach out and asked for guidance. I've seen aloha monkey grow and change & if anyone wants piercings I always recommend going here particularly to Tara. She's incredible. As is Adrianna who did one of my multiple piercings even through my dismay of Tara being at another shop on that day. Highly recommend going here for piercings & tattoos. read more

I've gotten 3 tattoos here and plan on getting more. This is definitely my go-to shop and I've had such a great experience here I'd hesitate to go elsewhere. The first one I got here was a tiger, it was a design I picked off the wall but they redrew it to my liking and did a fantastic job! Everyone was and still is amazed by the work--Frog was the artist. I then came in a year later to get it colored, and again top-notch job. The second one I got was a little more difficult, a geometric shape with a lot of straight lines and specific proportions, but Kenny knocked it out of the park and there's not drop of ink out of place. The third one was some text on my ribs, done by Kenny again, they advised me about it quite well beforehand, had to throw out my original font idea because it couldn't be done and settled with a regular serif; I'm really glad I listened to their advice because it looks awesome and turned out better than my original idea--so keep in mind that if you bring in a design, they'll give you advice on how to make it look good, and just because it looks good on paper doesn't mean it will look good on skin, so they know what they're talking about. It was a painful one and one guy kept coming to check on me, lol. It was nice that they were looking out. The only potential cons are price--they are pricey but I'm getting my money's worth because these guys are awesome artists and really good at what they do. Pay good money for great art! read more

The artists at this shop are very nice and easy-going. My nose piercing turned out spectacular after getting it redone due to an incident where a certain metal gave me a keloid. I DO HAVE TO SAY- pricing here is very unfair. I have 2 tattoos from aloha, and a couple from other shops. I have found my regular shop now but it's incredible to see the price comparison between the two and how much aloha may overcharge. overall, great place for peircings! tattoos- not so much for me! read more

I've lived near this shop my entire life. When I wanted to start my half sleeve I went in and talked to a few artist and viewed their portfolios. They are all amazing artists but I chose Gabe to do my piece (he's the best!) I'm 7 hours into my tattoo and after each session I love it more and more! Gabe is a seriously talented artist and I would recommend him to anyone! He is especially amazing at realism. His station is very clean, and he makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. I also have a few piercings by the lovely Tara! I've had several piercings done at other places and every other piercer ive seen has been a total d*ck! Not the case with Tara, she is so friendly and so good at what she does, she walks you through every step and makes sure you are comfortable. She is also very professional and keeps her station super clean! Even the receptionist (tall brunette can't remember her name) is super friendly! I could rave about this place for days but I'll leave it at this; If you're looking to get an amazing tattoo or piercing at a very clean shop done by amazing artist, go to aloha monkey! read more

I went there about a month ago to get my belly button periced and the person up front, I think her name was Jill was very rude. She told me she wouldn't do it because I was going to go swimming when I specifically said I wouldn't be in water at all. She acted like she knew everything when still to this day I haven't even gone and swam. I would not recommend going here at least if she working. She was very rude and inconsiderate of me, my money, and my time like I didn't matter or know anything when I was the costumer. I've been there in the past and the staff were very nice and considerate but this time was different, I was very disappointed. read more

two simple tattoos for 250 dollars and they look like complete shit. literally just lines, no shading, and they blew out in spots/blobbed spots on both. not my first tattoo... I did not submerge these and took care of them. I want them removed. not just blobbed lines but unfinished lines, unevenness. I will never go back here and if I choose to get them touched up over removed, I will not return to them for help. also front desk lady is super rude and acts like you should know everything about getting a walk in tattoo- she was so condescending to my mother, who was also with me and getting her first tattoo. if I could rate 0/0 I would. read more

This is not going to be a slam review, however, more of a heads-up to how these guys handle themselves with customers who receive a Gift Certificate. I received said GC for Xmas... A couple years ago, I was lucky enough (or so I thought) to open a Special envelope with a $100 GC in it to Aloha Monkey, a Local Tattoo Shoppe. I was giddy with anticipation and already knew how I wanted to use the money... to touch up a previous and favorite tattoo that had a few spots of missing color that I wanted filled back in. I would have been an easy hundred bucks to them, but I guess they wanted to make more work for themselves. So, I made the appointment and arrived at the shop to be ignored for several minutes when I arrived with my companion, so I started looking at flash. When I was acknowledged, they treated me as though I was an annoyance and not worth any effort. I felt put-off, for lack of a better word. When I informed the guy that I had an appointment and a Gift Certificate, his face dropped from happy to uninterested, as though he had just been told that he won the lottery,........ for losers. Needless to say, as we got into the consult, he talked me OUT of having my tattoo touched up, which, frankly, would have been nothing but profit for them, since they didn't even perform the tattoo in question, but then decided to add onto a tattoo I had behind my ear which I didn't really want to have touched up. (Bear in mind, this was a special tattoo that every one of my cousins and I have, to commemorate our Irish Heritage and I didn't want anything else done to it, but the Artist continued to insist he couldn't do anything else. So I gave in.) I just wanted my damned tattoo at this point. So, I got the tattoo, at the artist's insistance and added flames and colour to my tiny shamrock tattoo behind my ear and he did a pretty good job, however, I didn't feel the work was worth $100, I have had tattoos done for much less that are much better than this one. Anyways, needless to say, the lines on it are very blurry, meaning, he went too deep and held his wrist at the wrong angle, causing the ink to bleed under the skin. I honestly think this guy was a new artist, maybe even an apprentice, because he had another artist breathing down his neck the whole time. I feel like I deserved a seasoned artist and only because I had a gift certificate did I get passed off onto the newbie tattooist. I was disappointed with my experience but aside from the blurry lines, my tattoo turned out alright, I suppose. I had definitely seen better, but I have to like it because it's permanently placed on my body. Someday, maybe I will get a tattoo that doesn't have tons of mistakes. Also, Perhaps in the future, Aloha Monkey's staff will get some customer service skills. A reminder to all Tattoo Artists, just because I came in with a Gift Certificate ($100, btw. PAID in CASH by my boyfriend), but I also had $50 in my wallet, which I would have generously tipped him, IF he had gone above and beyond, but now that guy will never get my business back and I will forever be "scarred" by my experience, literally and figuratively. Fair Warning. I think these guys might really be untrained, poo-flinging Monkeys. read more

I was 18 when I had my bellybutton pierced at Aloha Monkey. I wasn't exactly used to be in tatoo parlors so I was relieved when I walked in to find the place decent! Overpriced. Staff seems too busy to really give you any decent advice/attention. Kenny seemed uninterested and flat. Made me feel uncomfortable. I paid a lot of money for a simple small cross on my wrist and don't really understand how they can justify their prices at a $50 minimum for such a small tattoo (should have been more like $20). The work done was fine but the price & customer service was ridiculous. I've heard great things about this place but will most likely look elsewhere next time. read more

Josh Arment recently tattooed me and it's the best work I've ever had done. He did a great back piece for me and I couldn't love it more! People constantly stop me on the street and ask me about it. They got me right in for my tattoo! The artist was very kind and made sure I was happy with the placement and work done. I'll go there again

I went in to get my nose piercings changed out 2 weeks ago. I was a walk in and did not have to wait long to get in. Front desk was very kind and pleasant to interact with. I told the piercer that it was my first time getting my piercings changed out since getting my nose pierced and asked her for help in deciding which of the jewelry that I brought would fit best- which she did. Everything was fine except when it came to actually changing the piercings out which was very painful for me and she did not really explain to me what was happening throughout the process which made me very nervous as I did not know what to expect. and she did appear to be struggling to get the jewelry in. I was visibly and audibly in pain and she seemed pretty indifferent and did not address me to ask if I needed anything or if I was ok at any point in the process. I was in such a rush to leave after being so uncomfortable that I followed her to the front not realizing that she did not give me back the original jewelry and jewelry option I brought in with me and did not realize until I had already gotten home. I hate writing bad reviews but I had heard good things about how lovely the piercers were here and my experience was not that. Unfortunately I do not know the name of the piercer I worked with... I am sure this doesn't represent all of the employees here at all but something to be noted. read more

Aloha monkey is one of the worst tattoo or piercing parlors I have ever been to. The only people who have positive opinions about this place are the people who have never been anywhere else. Not only are they intensely over priced. Nearly double what you would pay anywhere else. Their front desk clerk's are unorganized and almost always have a bad attitude. The only people who are kind are the piercers who are informative and helpful and very careful to be sure you like what you are getting. I went in for a second time to get my stud replaced with a hoop. The person working at the front desk didn't ask what color, size or type of jewelry I needed and charged my card for a silver captive ball ring. I corrected her and told her I needed the gold and she charged my card for the gold. Gave me another captive ball (I needed the seamless) with so much attitude that I didn't say anything else. It looked smaller then what I needed so I asked her if she was sure it was the right size. She said it was. When I got home to put it in I was right. It was too small. I wish she had asked what I wanted instead of rushing through my transaction. read more

This is a very nice place, I especially love the decor. One thing I like is that you can do walk-ins, just depends on how big. I did a walk-in and got a little flower on my hand. I don't have much to go off from about their tattoos and artists but the guy did a nice job on my flower. I did go their to get pierced, Tara (I hope that's her name) does such an amazing job! She's super nice, very thorough, tells you everything you need or want to know. I got my jestrum done by her. At first she didn't wanna do it cause she's only ever done it a couple times and she didn't wanna end up screwing it up, understandable. But she asked me if I wanted to just go with it, so I did. SHE DID IT SPOT ON! Its centered correctly, it's perfectly straight. I love it! The only thing is their prices are a little higher compared to a normal piercing being $60. But overall, nice place, nice environment. I'd definitely get pierced there again. read more

I have had 2 tattoos here, both done by Matt Zirbes. Both times Matt took the time to sketch a detailed drawing of what I wanted. He is a great artist and I highly recommend him! read more

Have been going to aloha monkey for years. I have multiple piercings from Tara and recently stopped back to get a new tattoo. I have had two of my four tattoos done here and I have to say that this shop has the best atmosphere! My fiance and I walked in and were immediately greeted by Josh the owner. He worked with me on the idea that I can in with and made it sound exactly like what I wanted. My artist Matt went above and beyond drawing up the image and was willing to let me take breaks during the actual tattoo process which was about 4 hours or so. The shop was super clean and the staff were more than willing to answer my questions and home astound with each other. I will be coming back for more! I was a bit leery of Aloha Monkey not only because of the reviews I'd read but also because of the few experiences I'd had several years ago with Aloha Monkey. I didn't really want to go back but I was in a time crunch and impulse decisions don't lend themselves well to planning... so in I went. I'm SO GLAD I DID. The young blonde guy at the counter came over to help right away. He answered all my questions, got the paperwork going and introduced me to Steve, the piercer. Steve was awesome. Very laid back, wanted to make sure he was ready for me (had everything he'd need, the jewelry I'd picked out etc.) I didn't feel rushed, just very attended to. When it was time to go back into the room, I realized I only had enough for the piercing and the jewelry, not the tip. I knew I could get the money later on, after my husband got off work and brought this up before we continued on, Steve waved me off- "I don't care about a tip, I just want you to get pierced. That's the main thing." It was quick and almost painless! :) It was a great experience all the way around and for once, I'm super happy my impatience won out! Aloha Monkey has completely won me back. Staff is friendly and professional, equipment and jewelry is clean/sterile, price is not bad either- piercing (for the nose, at least) is $30 and the basic ring/stud is $15, so a min of $45 but the size and detail go up, as well as the price and someone at Aloha Monkey will be able to help you choose what's right for you. Thanks so much guys! read more

This isn't going to be a slam review, I would first like to say this is a very clean shop and all the instruments used were opened in front of me so cleanliness was not an issue at all. However, I went here to get my nipples pierced last week. The piercing itself was easy but after the fact I was pierced I was told they used the largest jewelry they had in the store. Unfortunately, the actual size I needed was a 14g that was 1" long and they only had 3/4" or 1 1/4 inch long barbells. My left nipple ring started to embed into my skin and it became very irritated and painful. I went back to the shop a week after the initial piercings were done and got the 1 1/4 inch which was ridiculously too large put into my left nipple and was told "not to fuck with" the right nipple. So I walked out of the shop with a ring that was too large on one and too small on the other side (I paid 30$ not including tip) but my left side felt 100x better with the larger jewelry even though my chest looked ridiculous having two very different size barbells in. The next morning I woke up to My RIGHT piercing embedded into my skin. I wasn't about to go back to aloha money for the third time and pay another 30$ for a ring that's twice the size I had before. I ended up going to lucky Linda's in shakopee. The balls were put on SO tightly by the first guy that it took at least a half hour to get them off and a lot of pressure and tugging came with that. My right nipple (the one that was embedded when I went in) actually started to bleed. But paid them 50$ (including h2ocean spray) for finally giving me the correct size jewelry for both of my nipples. I would recommend going to lucky Linda's over aloha any day. I love my new piercings (originally 120$ not including tip) at aloha but I'm upset I had to spend an additional 30$ for them to replace the one that THEY pierced with the wrong size and then another 50$ to go somewhere else and have them fix my situation. Nice dude, clean shop, but save yourself the money and your time and go somewhere else like I should have in the first place. read more

I got my first tattoo here. Very pricey, not sure I would go back here just because I shouldn't have paid $300 for something I now know another place would have done for half. I don't think my tattoo artist actually said anything to me besides to lay down. It was just an uncomfortable atmosphere with the employees. read more

This is my second tattoo at Aloha Monkey. While they do a great job, their pricing is kind of high. I went in a few days after I got my tattoo because I wanted a few lines extended 1/8 of an inch and they have a shop minimum of $50. I though since I had just spent $150 for 30 minutes of work, that they would just do it for free. I guess not. In the future, I would probably go somewhere else that is cheaper as I have many friends with great tattoos who paid a lot less than I did for their tattoos. read more
