I'd been to Rockin Tattoos a couple months ago and thought I had a great experience.....but let me tell you, Andre fricken' blew that right out of the water!!! I was there yesterday and got a full arm design. I love the fact he's a perfectionist and spent nearly 2 hours just configuring the size and flow of the design and ensuring the stenciling was ON POINT, and I mean to PERFECTION before proceeding with the ink. Once the stenciling was perfected, it was off to the races. I had made it clear I wanted the design completed in one session and Andre delivered, though it took 7+ hours to complete. The finished results are amazing. No other words to describe it, the clean lines, impeccable shading, and overall WOW factor continue to delight and amaze me each time I look at my arm! I'm already planning my next return visit. Side note: There was another customer getting tattooed by Andrew, while I was in there...his art work looks simply fabulous and it's apparent he just as much of an artist/perfectionist as Andre. My instinct was to give a lower rating because of my unpleasant most recent experience, but that wouldn't be totally fair. Got a pretty decent tattoo there once, got a pretty shoddy tattoo there once. A dice roll, i suppose. they encourage walk ins which i think is great and the shop generally seems to live up to their excellent reputation, but consider researching your artist anyway. Mine was a little off, very heavy-handed, and had some questionable personal business practices. read more

Emerson was amazing. I came in trying to get my tattoo touched up which i know isn't something a lot of places do, just did a walk-in. The person at the front desk was super friendly and eased my nerves, and it was a very quick turnaround time from showing them what I wanted to sitting in the chair, however it didn't feel rushed. I had a few hours to kill before my flight out of MSP. I called when I was 45 mins away just to make sure they were taking walk ins on a Saturday. It's hard to find a place that advertises walk ins that actually wants to do walk ins, so they were great from that POV. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. The artist, Zach, was so nice and did a great job. They are also very reasonably priced and the shop is clean. My only criticism is that they should be a bit more transparent with how long you may have to wait for a walk in. I may have caught them on a really busy day, but I waited 45 mins before anyone would even talk about a design with me. Patience was definitely key but overall it was totally worth it. read more

The only reason This review is a one star is because 1. That's the lowest option and 2. The front staff was very kind. This place is Outrageously overpriced, the tattoo artist charged over 300 for a small tattoo that required no design on their part as they just had to make a copy of script that I had provided. I regret giving in to my desire for a day of appointment and thus was willing to pay more than I knew it was worth. The tattoo took less than 45 mins maximum and the artist had poor attention to detail. The tattoo blew out as the artist went too deep in a few slot. Now that I think of it, I don't recall watching them open up a new needle or anything they used for that matter which was a huge mistake on my part to follow through with it. This is my 10th tattoo and I have excellent tattoo aftercare and I have never had this issue. Never will be going back again and I do not recommend in the slightest. read more

Gotten a bunch of work done here by various artists, Andrew Padilla Is the main guy I go to. All super friendly guys, who take their work seriously. They make recommendations and changes to the ideas I bring in. I take their suggestions because I may come in with a concept but I trust their opinion as artists in what to do or not do and i also want to respect their own style. I always get a TON of compliments on all the work I've had done by them. I have a little tradition of getting some BBQ from the establishment next door while I'm waiting, and when the need calls for some donuts it's right next door as well, what more could a girl ask for?! I've been going to this shop for over 3.5 years and gotten the vast majority of my 19 with them, and when I started going I only had 4-5 tattoos. I have a couple pieces percolating around to do with Drew one of which will be the largest and most detailed of any of mine and he's definitely the guy I trust with something so large. :) read more

Billy at rockin tattoos was amazing!! If I could give him 100/5 stars I would! My grandma and I went to rockin tattoos with no appt at 12 when they opened and waited for about an hour and then they told us to come back at 3pm. We came back at 3pm and waited until about 8:30 until we were ready to be tattooed. It seemed like there must have been organizational issues with the front desk because many walk ins were seen before us which was very frustrating and we almost left due to this. I would give the waiting experience about a 0/5 just because of the disorganization and attitude we got when we kept asking how long it would be. I totally understand that people have appts that were scheduled and they have priority but MANY walk ins were seen before us which was not at all due to Billy but due to the front desk. Also once I had been tattooed the front desk charged me 50$ more because "it was bigger than expected" which was very odd since we had been waiting for a total of 8.5 hours to be tattooed. But once we were able to be seen by Billy our whole experience changed!!! He was so amazing and was so patient with us and redrew my tattoo about 5 times until it was PERFECT. Exactly what I wanted! It was my first time getting a tattoo and I have an extreme fear of needles but Billy reassured me everything would be fine and was so kind to me during the whole process. He triple checked with me to make sure I was ready to get tattooed and really paid attention to detail during my tattoo. We had great conversations and he is an amazing award winning artist! We were able to look at his AMAZING pro folio and was so impressed by all of his work. He also does extraordinary color tattoos and uses very vibrant and bright colors! I will be going back (with an appt!!!) to see him and ONLY him. I have some scars on my forearm that he was able to cover and placed the tattoo and shaded to perfectly cover them. He was so kind to my grandma and I and stayed way after closing time to finish my grandmas! We had such a positive experience with him and have been recommending him to all of my friends and family! I can't say enough good things about this shop. The staff is fantastic. They are very friendly, professional and are phenomenal artists. I got some work done four years ago and since then they have been the only shop that I will go to. I have had four different artists tattoo me from this shop, and they have all done great work. I see that there is some hate on the wait times. Waiting happens. A tattoo is permanent, rushing that would just be bad tattooing. You wouldn't want them to rush your ink. Not a good experience at all. Made an appt for 4:00 and my tattoo artist tells me I have to wait because another one of his appointments showed up late. So I sit and wait for an unknown period of time before I finally get up after about an hour and a half and tell him I'll just go somewhere else. He proceeds to get rather hostile and defensive when I ask for my deposit back. Overall unpleasant and def won't be coming back. read more

Well, being that I've never had a tattoo...and am a big ole chicken when it comes to getting one, I took the easy way out and took a friend to get one for her birthday! My friend had been to Rockin before, but I had no idea what to expect. We walked in and the place was SPOTLESS... I mean, seriously, I should see if they will come clean at my house! And all of the guys are really super nice...and have some seriously cool tattoos of their own! Austin, the guy who worked on my friend was great... I mean he had to be if he put up with me popping in and out, standing over him, and asking a zillion questions, right? : ) Thanks, Austin! Got my first tattoo done on 6/28/14. I heard about this place from a friend who had work done here. The artist who eventually did the tattoo spent about 45 minutes working on a custom design for me, even though I was just a walk in with no prior appointment made. The process took roughly 4 hours from start to finish, with about 2.5 hours being spent on the tattooing. I love the tattoo, it's a beautiful design I will be happy wearing. It is healing well (I think.) Andrew Padilla was my tattoo artist. The facility seemed nice and clean, prominently displays all Department of Health certifications and follows sterile procedures. They have an autoclave and test it regularly. Got some great artwork on the walls to look at while you're getting the work done. I don't know about how tattoo pricing works per se, but I have been told by others that I got mine done at a good price for the time and quality of work. Would recommend to a friend. (Gave it 4 stars because I've never been to any other tattoo shop and can't compare it to other experiences.) Edit: I've had some experience at other shops now. I would say that Rockin' Tattoo is definitely on par with other excellently reviewed Minneapolis tattoo shops on Yelp. I'm keeping the four star review because I noticed there are no female artists. Not to dissuade anyone from going to Rockin', but diversity is nice to see and made me feel more comfortable at other shops. read more

I attended one of their Friday the 13th $20 tattoo events. Yep $20 for a tattoo! Yes they were a limited selection but all pretty cool and incorporate the #13. I hadn't had a tattoo in years but heard about this event and figured it would be a good way to break my no ink streak and not my wallet. Although it was busy, the artists were very organized and were able to accommodate the requests in a timely manner. Joe did my tattoo, he was very professional and the colors he incorporated are amazing! He worked with me to even modify and add different colors to the tattoo I picked.
