Dreamsicle
Audrienne S.

A slice of tropical heaven in Carlsbad! I've been to my fair share of Hawaiian shaved ice spots on the mainland but nothing--and I mean nothing--comes close to the magic they serve up here. One word: DREAMSICLE. I don't know what kind of sorcery they're working with, but this flavor tastes like childhood joy and beachside sunsets blended into a cup. It's perfectly creamy, citrusy, nostalgic, and refreshing all at once. I am not in Carlsbad often, but I know that the next time I'm headed to San Diego I am going to stop by and try more of their creations. But what really makes Aloha Ice special isn't just the incredible flavors--it's the people. The staff here are absolute gems. I came with a group of 6, a few kids, and a few indecisive adults. The employees were so genuinely patient, kind, and enthusiastic through the whole thing. No eye rolls, no rush--just warm smiles and helpful suggestions. Everyone ended up ordering shaved ice that they loved! It's rare to find a place that nails both quality AND hospitality, but Aloha Ice does it effortlessly. Whether you're a local or just passing through Carlsbad, don't miss this spot. Pro tip: get the Dreamsicle. You can thank me later!

Just like Hawaii!!! So good. I am upset we did try sooner. They also had spam masubi, which is a plus. Going to make this a regular spot we visit.

Aloha ice was very good! I love the icecream being included under the Italian ice, and was a nice sweet treat to have during our beach day. The employee working was very nice and accommodating.

Whenever we are in Carlsbad we try to stop by here. It reminds us a bit of being in Hawaii and makes it worth the stop. Though the shave ice isn't what you would find in Hawaii, this place comes close. The syrups are ok, but for being in California this place is good. I would put this place and Hula Girls Shave Ice (Huntington Beach) at the same level and Ululani's Shave Ice (Hollywood) at the top. If you're in the area and it's a hot day. No better way to cool off than a shave ice at Aloha Ice.

Cherry and Mango on top of vanilla ice cream and sweet cream on top

Great place for shaved ice. We went on a busy Sunday afternoon. So many flavors to choose from. I went with "make your own " Cherry and Mango on top of vanilla ice cream topped with sweet cream. Hubby went with Pina Colada. There is limited seating outside but we managed to find a seat. Fun addition, they give you color changing spoons. Will be back to try the other flavors.

The girls and I were in the area on a hot afternoon, so we were looking for something to cool us down. Aloha Ice has Hawaiian shaved ice, acai bowls, smoothies, ice cream and I'm sure other things as well. They have some small tables outside the shop for you to enjoy your treats. One thing they can improve on is their screens that displayed the menu, specifically the screen that was I interested in, kept losing connection. Also the tables could have been better maintained between customers. We all decided to get Hawaiian shaved ice which had a ice cream base topped with shaved ice. They have a lot of flavors to choose from. The girls all picked from their Aloha favorites that are their creations. I decided to make my own creation. I got the vanilla ice cream as a base because it was more complimentary to the strawberry and lychee flavor with sweet cream drizzle. Yummmmm! We were all loving our treats and had such a good time. My creation was about ~$6. Pretty standard in this economy. Definitely exactly what we needed for the afternoon, and I would come back when I am back in the area.

Stumbled upon this place for a post dinner dessert and it was pretty busy when we walked up. My boyfriend and I shared a small custom shaved iced, where we got 3 flavors and paid for an add on of the cream drizzle on top. There was a bit of a wait for the shaved ice but I know it takes some time to make each one. It was pretty good but nothing crazy. The flavors were not particularly strong, it wasn't easy to identify which was which but they were good and not overly sweet. They also forgot to put the cream drizzle on top so we had to go back and ask for it. Overall the shaved ice was good but not as smooth and fluffy as expected. Might come back if we're craving some shaved ice!

I stopped in to get a coffee, and ended up with the Koko Mocha. I don't usually get this type of coffee, but it sounded good. It had good coffee flavor. It's a nice stop in Carlsbad Village. I would have given them 5 stars, but the service was not good. I walked in and waited almost a good 5 minutes before being acknowledged by the only employee. She was very busy talking with someone she knew about different concerts, while making a shaved ice for a young man. Once she finished she finally decided to ask me if she could help me. I will be back to give them another try. The shop is cute with a local feel.

This place has the best shave ice, the nicest staff, a laid back beach vibe, and I also love their tik tok account. It's all about fun, sunshine and ohana. https://www.tiktok.com/@alohaiceco?_t=ZT-90UiV5tYUP7&_r=1

Owner Noelle and Jenna, starting a new collaboration with Make A Wish!

I'm a Make A Wish, wish granter and I sometimes connect with local businesses who can help enhance my wish kid's experience. I had a wish kid who's wish included a trip to Hawaii, what better than a shave ice establishment to give her a send off!!? I contacted Noelle at Aloha Ice and she so impressed me with her generosity and kindness. She made the wish kid's send off amazingly special, so did her lovely workers Kendall and Jenna! They worked with my wish kid's order until she said, "This is perfect!" What more could you ask for??? Support small businesses and visit this gem! By the way our group got an assortment of treats. I enjoyed the shave ice with cherry topping and vanilla ice cream on the bottom. The coffee flavored shake was tasty, ice cream etc! You can't go wrong here!

Stopped in while walking around the village after dinner. We had been to Handel's the night before but kind of wanted something different. We saw a pretty large crowd of people outside eating shaved ice so we thought we'd give it a shot. There was only one employee working but she was working nonstop cranking out orders. She told us she'd be with us in a second and that gave us some time to look around the shop. There was a lot of memorabilia from Hawaii and really beautiful framed coffee bean bags on the wall. The menu has options for both food and dessert. My husband and I shared a small shaved ice, which is more than plenty. We opted for the pog with a cream top and macadamia nut ice cream underneath. My husband also grab some spam musubi's to go. What we didn't know the entire time was that the business had already closed 10 minutes prior, but she stayed open just to let customers keep coming in and ordering dessert.

Where'd my syrup go? Certainly not at the bottom of the cup.

Ask the Community - Aloha Ice

Are the shaved ice flavors gluten free / celiac friendly?

Yes our shave ice flavors are vegan and gluten free. That is just the shave ice. Toppings and of course ice cream are not.

Hi do you do catering ? If so what are your pricing.

Hi Sherine, thank you for your message and yes we do catering. Pricing depends on the event. When, where, and how many people are you looking to host? Also would you like to pay for your guests or would you like them to pay?… Read more

Chicken soup to the rescue. Having been a longtime veteran of visiting Lourdes in Escondido, I knew to just ignore anything else on the menu. My experience at the other location was that everything else they serve is adequate but hardly noteworthy. But the chicken soup is everything I remembered -- hearty, spicy, and beautifully seasoned. Good broth, hints of pepper, lime, cilantro, and with generous portions of chicken and cilantro (as well as tortillas), it's very filling. If there are any strikes against it, it would have to be the very sterile building it's now in, and the disposible containers -- the new location lacks the character of the original. But the soup itself overshadows the blah strip mall seating. Now if only Peterson's donuts could open a location here too...

I ordered rolled tacos for $14.98 and was then charged an additional $3 for lettuce and sour cream... which is odd because that's typically included. The food didn't make up for it either. The tacos were hot but not good, the chips were stale, and even the salsa tasted watered down. I also ordered a horchata and it literally tasted like water. When I brought it up to the cashier, Chanel, she brushed it off with a quick "yeah ok, thank you" with no effort to fix it or make it right. What really upset me was what happened after. I called the restaurant to follow up, and the same cashier spoke about me in Spanish, assuming I wouldn't understand. I do speak Spanish, and hearing that was incredibly disrespectful. Then she tried to explain horchata to me in a condescending way, like I didn't know what it was. Don't judge a customer based on how they look. You never know who you're talking to or what they understand. The place was kinda clean but low on a lot salsa. The only hardworking person was the chef ‍ I came here because I had heard good things, but between the poor food quality, extra charges, and lack of respect, I won't be coming back.
