Came to treat my kid to shave ice. The shave ice creations on the menu were weird - packed too tight so that after a minute or two, they would melt and start spilling out of the serving cup over the edges, making a sticky wet mess. I was surprised to find a scoop of macadamia ice cream at the bottom of my shaved ice and it was the only saving grace as I found the shave ice itself overly sweet and not particularly fine. Both my kid and I got the child size and it was more than enough, we each threw out more than half. I would not recommend. read more

Whenever we are in Carlsbad we try to stop by here. It reminds us a bit of being in Hawaii and makes it worth the stop. Though the shave ice isn't what you would find in Hawaii, this place comes close. The syrups are ok, but for being in California this place is good. I would put this place and Hula Girls Shave Ice (Huntington Beach) at the same level and Ululani's Shave Ice (Hollywood) at the top. If you're in the area and it's a hot day. Stumbled upon this place for a post dinner dessert and it was pretty busy when we walked up. My boyfriend and I shared a small custom shaved iced, where we got 3 flavors and paid for an add on of the cream drizzle on top. There was a bit of a wait for the shaved ice but I know it takes some time to make each one. It was pretty good but nothing crazy. The flavors were not particularly strong, it wasn't easy to identify which was which but they were good and not overly sweet. They also forgot to put the cream drizzle on top so we had to go back and ask for it. Overall the shaved ice was good but not as smooth and fluffy as expected. The girls and I were in the area on a hot afternoon, so we were looking for something to cool us down. Aloha Ice has Hawaiian shaved ice, acai bowls, smoothies, ice cream and I'm sure other things as well. They have some small tables outside the shop for you to enjoy your treats. One thing they can improve on is their screens that displayed the menu, specifically the screen that was I interested in, kept losing connection. Also the tables could have been better maintained between customers. We all decided to get Hawaiian shaved ice which had a ice cream base topped with shaved ice. They have a lot of flavors to choose from. The girls all picked from their Aloha favorites that are their creations. I decided to make my own creation. I got the vanilla ice cream as a base because it was more complimentary to the strawberry and lychee flavor with sweet cream drizzle. Yummmmm! We were all loving our treats and had such a good time. I stopped in to get a coffee, and ended up with the Koko Mocha. I don't usually get this type of coffee, but it sounded good. It had good coffee flavor. It's a nice stop in Carlsbad Village. I would have given them 5 stars, but the service was not good. I walked in and waited almost a good 5 minutes before being acknowledged by the only employee. She was very busy talking with someone she knew about different concerts, while making a shaved ice for a young man. Once she finished she finally decided to ask me if she could help me. Stopped in while walking around the village after dinner. We had been to Handel's the night before but kind of wanted something different. We saw a pretty large crowd of people outside eating shaved ice so we thought we'd give it a shot. There was only one employee working but she was working nonstop cranking out orders. She told us she'd be with us in a second and that gave us some time to look around the shop. There was a lot of memorabilia from Hawaii and really beautiful framed coffee bean bags on the wall. I did put my input in for flavor and we landed on ice cream with coconut and mango. We were hoping some of the flavors were naturally made but I think they are all artificial which keeps the price point lower, however I'd be willing to pay for natural made flavors/syrups. The shop had little trinkets for sale but was a bit tired looking maybe after a long weekend. It tasted as bland as it looked. I got lychee (classic flavor and my go-to when I lived on Oahu) & ube. I could barely taste the lychee and there was slight ube flavor. Not sure if a light hand was used while pouring syrup or the flavorless syrups themselves, but there was nothing at the bottom of my cup (there usually is anywhere else). We were walking to get gelato, but stumbled upon this place and it was happening. The vibe strongly reminds me of Maui and I loved how welcoming the staff were. We ordered the Mango Love and they make it very similar to how they make it in Hawaii. The scoop of ice cream on the bottom was fantastic and added such a creamy texture to the shaved ice. It was not overtly sweet and the balance of all the ingredients was fantastic. I will definitely be coming back to try the other flavors. You can also create your own shaved ice. Coming home after vacationing in Hawaii and having shaved ice there, I was excited to get a notification from Yelp about this fairly new business. Came on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30 during peak tourist season (summer) to check out this place. Very cute shop located on a main street-Carlsbad Village Dr. & State St. No seating inside & only limited seating outside. We were surprised that there wasn't a line only a couple of people ahead of us. There were 2 employees and the young man, Dylan, who took our order was very nice. We ordered the You Got Me at Aloha & a grape/cherry/blue raspberry combo with vanilla ice cream. We also got the coconut -macadamia iced coffee. Orders came out in a timely manner. The iced coffee was delicious! I usually need to add a lot of sweetener but didn't need it. The shaved ices were good! Lots of flavor. Absolutely love the macadamia nut ice cream. Good portions and you even get a neat spoon that changes color with the temperature. We plan to return to try the other shaved ice flavors especially the tropical ones like pog & ube that I haven't seen anywhere else, and the Kona coffee. Nothing like some shaved ice on a hot day. Location, staff, portions sizes were all 5 stars. As for the shaved ice itself the mixture on the shaved ice I tried just didn't play out well for me. I stuck with the traditional rainbow one (from their pre set combo). Not fair to compare this to shaved ice from Hawaii, but in my option the flavors didn't mesh well. The base consisted of vanilla ice cream, which was really good. However, there was just too much flavored syrup added. Before the ice even melted I could see the syrups were already all soupy as I dug into the bottom of the cup. Reminded me more of a snow cone and less of shaved ice. In the end it was less refreshing like the shaved ice places I am used to, and more generic/artificial. Hoping to give another try one day, maybe a different flavor combo. Shave ice paradise! So many flavors, huge servings, perfect location - this is the place to stop after a beach day or on farmers market Wednesdays. My son wanted red and blue, a.k.a. strawberry and blue raspberry. The cool thing about this place is that they have every flavor of the rainbow, and you can get three flavors even on the size small. The bigger the size, the more room for flavors. I loved everything about this place, except they have a very big bee problem! I'm not talking about one, five, 10 bees... I've been looking for authentic Hawaiian shave ice (not shaved ice, then it's not authentic) in North County San Diego. The other day, we drove by it and I saw that it was a new place, told my husband I wanted to go with the kids some day, and on Mother's day after lunch, he took us here to get some shave ice. The fact that there's macadamia ice cream in the middle as an option is already screaming authentic Hawaiian shave ice, but then there's the flavors as well, they were all delicious and very flavorful with no hard ice or light on the frosting. They had the snow cap (condensed milk) drizzled on top as well, so I was very happy with everything. I got the large "You had me at aloha" shave ice which has the mango, pineapple, passionfruit, and guava. The only complaint I had was that the macadamia nut ice cream wasn't right in the center, we had to dig down to get it and there wasn't a lot of it. My kids shared the "aloha rainbow" in medium and they were getting so much brain freeze, they had a hard time finishing it. They were going to create their own too, but maybe some other time. First time here. My family and I decided to visit as it was a warm day in San Diego and we missed Hawaiian shave ice. This place looked pretty similar to Ululani's shave ice in Maui. I was super excited for the macadamian nut ice cream too! For some reason, I thought they were operating out of a food truck, but they actually have a store. Street parking was pretty full as it was the weekend on Carlsbad Village Dr, but there are a couple larger lots across from the store or street parking next to a small church. The walk isn't too bad either, perhaps a 3-5min walk or so. There were some outdoor seating and 1 indoor counter seating by the front entrance. It can get pretty crowded though, especially around noon. We beat the lunch rush, so that was very fortunate. You can choose up to 3 syrups, and they have a good variety. I chose pineapple, guava, and passion fruit with macadamian nut ice cream for the base. It actually makes quite a difference if you get the ice cream base. They also have coconut and vanilla. The wait time was pretty standard. I ordered the small size, but it was a pretty large portion. I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed with the shave ice. I expected too much though. Ululani's shave ice in Maui has very smooth shave ice, that it literally just melts in your mouth, not your typical coarse shave ice. The shave ice here was definitely similar to other shave ice places, as the ice was coarse; not bad though. The syrups were good too. The macadamian nut ice cream was good but it consisted of large mac nut chunks, which was a bit too much for me. I prefer the smaller bite sizes with the creamier macadamian ice cream taste, similar to Ululani's. I think I was a bit overambitious to taste Ululani's shaved ice here in CA. BUT, overall, it was great! My taste buds and stomach were both pretty satisfied. read more

Driving up the coast I wanted to try some place new. yelped and came across Aloha Ice Co. It had high stars so we drove further than usual. Being from islands...just super disappointed with the quality of shave ice and ice cream that is supposed to represent Aloha. Macadamia nut ice cream is not supposed to be a scoop of vanilla and shaken with Mac nut after it's scooped. Presentation and taste was blah Shave Ice: was soup within 3 mins I asked the worker if this was their norm and he said yes. See pics Shave ice needs to be compacted to withstand the syrups and to avoid melting. Please don't call this place Ice Co. when they are not knowledgeable on the process of a proper shaved ice.
