I needed to find a repairman as our washer stopped working during mid-cycle. I called 4 appliance repair business with good reviews on Yelp (two of which I used before) and Michael was the only one to return my call. He showed up promptly on the appointed day. I was a little surprised when he told me to stay with him as he diagnosed the problem. I watched as he went through the diagnostic steps which eventually identified the problem. He asked if my wife could join us so he can ask some questions. He wanted to know if we noticed any other problems, in particular if the washer was experiencing more "off balance" warnings. After he gave us a quote to repair the washer (which was reasonable), he gave us a rundown of our washer's condition; i.e. what could go wrong in the coming years and expected life of the washer (it was already 7 years old). We felt like he wanted to give us as much information as possible so we could make the best decision on whether or not to go ahead with the repair. We decided to fix our washer and he returned later that day to complete the repair. Needless to say, we were both impressed with Michael's sincere effort to make sure we make an informed decision. Micheal is super honest and friendly person. He came by today to check on my mom's glass top stove because one of the burners is working intermittently. Micheal told us since the stove is about 16 years old, just use it until it breaks the get a breaks then get a new one. It wouldn't worth it for my mom to fix it because it be pretty close to what a new one would cost. He also gave my mom places where to buy a new stove too and where they can install it for us. Discovered our dryer not heating up yesterday. I left a message and Michael contacted me about 20 minutes later and was able to set up an appointment for this afternoon. He went step by step showing me how to take apart the dryer and how to test the parts to in fact determine that it was a bad heating element. He explained everything that he was doing to me. A small water leak (1 drop/10 sec) developed in the back of my Kenmore Elite refrigerator. I researched Yelp and found Aloha Appliance Services with a high rating and positive reviews about the owner, Michael. Noteworthy was how he explained the whole repair process, costs for parts and labor, and then provided a recommendation. Through our discussion, I was convinced that Michael had my best interest in mind. And of course, he will do whatever I was willing to pay him to do. Well after Michael noticed that my refrigerator was manufactured in 2008, e.g. 15 years old, he quickly pointed out that although replacing the water valve, tubing, water filter housing, ice maker (I had small overflow problems) that the costs of parts and labor was quickly pointing to buying a new refrigerator. Michael highly recommended keeping the design simple and try to stay away from all the fancy gadgets and electronics. He also pointed out that due to the age, e.g. close to the end of life, who knows what else may break. In the end, I decided to forgo the repair and look for a replacement refrigerator. The drain pan on my fairly new refrigerator cracked. Michael replied quickly to my call, requested model information via text and had already attempted to obtain the replacement before he even came out, which was all on the same day that I called! When he found the part had to be ordered, he brought materials in hopes of being able to patch the pan. Unfortunately that was not possible. He confirmed that the part was ordered before he left (and it took multiple calls!). He was very sincerely regretful that he had to make a return visit to replace the part, but I was more than willing to have him return for a very reasonable price to complete the repair. Initially he thought it would take two weeks, but the part was here in 1 week. Michael was able to return and quickly replace the damaged pan. He told me that he wasn't certified to work on that type of ice maker but gave me suggestions on what I could do to possibly remedy the problem. I am so pleased with this company. He showed me the areas that needed to be repaired. He explained clearly what he was doing. He also explained he likes to make sure he fixed all the areas that was leaking before he leaves. Although he likes to be paid in cash he gives you a receipt. He even explained how whomever came and installed washer they should have leveled the washer as the garage slopes down on one side. He would have done it except he did not have a level. Thank you so much for your honesty! I called Mike to see if he could fix our washer. He called back right away and he said right from the start if it's a computerized washer, there is no sense in repairing it. He said it's not worth the money spent. He asked me to send the model and serial number which I could not locate. He helped me locate it via text and sent me pictures of where to find that information. BTW, it's located under the washer lid. I was still thinking it would be cheaper to fix it. So I asked Mike a few more questions via text. He quoted me $250+. I asked him what are the chances of the machine breaking down with something else wrong? He was straight forward and said, it would probably not last too much longer since it was 7 years old. This is a great company. Aloha Appliance was contracted by Lowes in Kahului to install a microwave and a dishwasher as part of a four piece appliance suite purchased for our condo. Rocky from Aloha Appliance called me to say they were the installers. We are off island so Rocky also called to let me know the dishwasher and microwave had arrived at Lowes , offered to check where the fridge and range were, called when they arrived at Lowes, offered to be sure Lowes delivery would drop off the fridge and range on the same day Aloha installed their appliances as just the one day was available and, then called the night before to be sure we were set for delivery and install the next day. All the while, I never got any information from Lowes and couldn't even get through to a store employee despite multiple phone calls. I'd hire Aloha again for anything they can do. read more

He came on a Saturday after one of his annual appliance training sessions (he apparently keeps current with the industry, like all good professionals). He then diligently checked my broken refrigerator and diagnosed all of the issues, and even asked that I watch his work so that he could explain what he was finding in real time. I highly recommend Aloha Appliance Service! My washing machine broke, and the other companies I usually use didn't call back right away, so I pulled up Yelp. Michael Choe, who I found out has been in business for years, diagnosed the problem over the phone, gave me a quote, and said the job shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. Michael stopped by my house and changed out the washing machine's transmission within minutes. The whole time he worked on our machine, he described in detail what he was doing, and he shared helpful hints, tricks he learned over the years, all so I could do the repair myself in the future. After he was done, Michael saw some loose wiring and connectors that weren't properly installed so he quickly squared it away free of charge. When all was said and done, Michael charged me less than he originally quoted, did extra work for free, and he was nice, friendly, and professional the whole time. Aloha Appliance and Michael are amazing! My partner in crime (aka Jin) and I had a fridge in our home that had a broken seal and was wasting electricity. Luckily Jin's sister had an extra fridge in the garage that we could use. After some heavy lifting into our "cave", we managed to get the fridge set up. Only after several hours did we realize the freezer worked, but the fridge did not. We plugged in our old fridge all while running the "new" one since the freezer was bigger than the old one. Long story short, while Jin's sister was home on Spring Break, we decided to have someone come repair the "new" fridge since we really wanted to use it instead of our old fridge. I called another business (see the other review) but it didn't work out. Desperate, I turned to Yelp once again and saw the reviews for Michael. I called him and he answered! YAY! He tried to diagnose our issue over the phone and figured that our fan was broken. He stated he was closed for the day, and booked the next day (Friday) but stated if he had a cancellation, he'd stop by. If not, he would come by on Monday. He asked that I text him a picture of the model number and our address. I didn't hear from him on Friday, and wondered if he had forgotten us. I texted on Monday morning. He stated he was on his way to pick up the part, but would be there at 9:00am (mind you it was 8:18am when he called back). He gave us a rough estimate for labor and the part ($200) and agreed to call us when he arrived. Although I wasn't there to meet Michael, I was told he was professional. He arrived at 8:55am and was done by 9:30am. He looked at our fridge, determined the fan worked but had rusted over and thus prevented the fridge from receiving cool air. He cleaned the rust of the fan, taught Jin's brother-in-law how to fix the fridge if it stopped working, and charged us only for labor! Saved us $120! That is amazing! I am really appreciative that Michael is an honest guy who isn't out to rip you off. He could have easily charged me for the part, but didn't. I'm truly thankful my fridge is now working.
