Interesting looking little spot. I went in for soul food…read more.. when we got in at 2pm on 16th of November & everything was sold out. No Turkey wings, no oxtails, basically everything I was interested in. & the place smells like nothings been cooked all day but ok. So we ordered a fish sandwich, 3 piece fish & 6 shrimp combo, Catfish & shrimp Po'boy, 3 16oz sweet tea it & all of the combos comes with fries. Menus doesn't match, & when ordering she friendly old lady said "those prices ain't right everything with up but I don't have the new price with me." To me it seems like she doesn't wanna be here & that might've work with customers who doesn't wanna pay for price increases. But we said understandable, paid $45.15 for our food & waited as she's cooking the order I smell burnt cooking oil, she asked if we want tarter sauce we all said yes, do you want lettuce onion or anything on your fish sandwich or po'boy we said lettuce & tomato she said tomato has a recall. Once the food was done she said we ain't got no tartar sauce we got ranch & ketchup. We did ok, but ketchup on the side. We get our food the order at 2:49p.m & it was wrong there was no po'boy it was 1 fish & 6 shrimp we told her it was supposed to be a po'boy she get a upset & says fine it's just missing a hamburger buns! Takes it to the back & put it on a hamburger bun. Taste: The fish sandwich had a ranch & ketchup mixed something I DID NOT ASK FOR. I was raised not to disrespect my elders so I just stayed quiet & was cursing in my head. No seasoning at all the fish was dried out the shrimps was like rubbery little balls The fries was hard & cold Everything tasted like burnt cooking oil. The fish didn't stay down for too long Lamar to get my niece for thanksgiving break & it came up in the parking lot. Never again will I visit this place. Good luck to those who do.

If I were playing Truth or Dare, I would dare you to try one of the newest and most popular soul…read morefood restaurants in downtown Beaumont. I'm talking about the one that is gaining a lot of attention, Truth Lounge and Bistro, located at 672 Orleans St. The name of this restaurant does not lie. Their food is GREAT and that's the TRUTH! Over the top flavor in every savory bite. Luscious and delectable, you will not disagree. This place SLAPS!! Everything from the fried fish, chicken, steaks, burgers, oxtails, and I must also add the healthy delicious salads... are full of that soul food southern flavor that will grab you on the first bite (menu pic included). They load your plate with food that is enough for two meals or share it with someone else. This is Real Soul Food Here!! The restaurant is rather small, with about ten tables and four chairs at each. There is a full-service bar and flat-screen televisions on the wall. Where they lack in size they make up with flavor. There were three of us in our party and we dined in. The atmosphere was inviting, friendly, and even a bit cozy. Beverly was our waitress and she was attentive to every detail and request. It was cornbread bowl day, and if you don't know, you will when I finish. It is a ring of sweet honey cornbread with a protein of your choice and two or three sides cuddled right in the middle. The proteins include lamb chops, roast, chicken, or fish. The sides include yams, collard greens, mac & cheese, pinto beans, green beans, or baked beans. My two lunch friends ordered the cornbread bowls. One was the cornbread bowl with fried chicken (OMG), mac & cheese, and green beans. My other friend ordered a vegetarian bowl with cabbage, yams, and mac & cheese. I ordered a salad with salmon bites, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, and a side of ranch. It was beautiful to look at and even better to eat. Freshness and flavor throughout this beautiful and savory salad. I would order it again. We had an amazing and fun time, our plates were filled to capacity. You better bring your appetite when you go to TRUTH because you will need it to finish all the food they pile on your plate. You definitely get your money's worth. Please give Truth a try and you can Thank Me Later! Tell them you saw it on Best Bites. What have you enjoyed at Truth Lounge & Bistro? Real Southern Cooking appeared to be the tiny self-proprietor choke-and-puke that I love. Well, I tried it today. The Hunny and I have been married for 21 years, and between all of the choices, this is the one where we went for our anniversary. Real Southern Cooking looks more cafe than restaurant. Not fancy at all, just a few tables in a small area. The entire menu fits on two 8.5x11 pieces of paper on the wall. It appeals to those who say "I just want good food at a low price" - um, like me. It felt down home, too. We were surprised to see a Hispanic mama & her son behind the counter; service with a smile. The black man I expected in the back was seated at a table, finishing his lunch, and he was not only informative about the spice on everything, but friendly after witnessing us praying before eating. Some utility workers came in too, "I wish I could order everything!" It appears to be a place with a daily clientele. We both had chicken: the Hunny, chicken spaghetti, me, fried chicken. She liked hers, but found it a little spicy, like the chef included Rotel Tomatoes in the sauce. I had three small pieces, and it reminded me of extra-crunchy skin at places like Krispy Krunchy Chicken. The meat was tender and not too hot. 2 sides are included, and the amount of red beans & rice I got was larger than a mere side. Real Southern Cooking is indeed one of those places that fits the Southern diner stereotype, including the good food at a low price. Not totally Texas, but totally Southern. If you're traveling on I-10, it is located downtown, a few miles off the freeway. A few more items on the menu would take it up to 5-star territory; as you see, many Yelpers have it there now. Enjoy it now, ya hear?
