Short story on Alma Thai: AMAZING!
Long story: I'm a 60-year-old recently retired CPA who moved down to Mexico, pretty damn tired after all the trials and tribulations it took to get here in Playa del Carmen (PDC). Lotta aches and pains have been creeping up on me over the years and I hadn't had a massage in quite some time. My last was maybe five years ago and it was for feet only. However, these aches and pains I'm feeling now are joint- and muscle-related due to 1) the increased activity of just physically doing things every day and 2) sitting at a desk, banging away at a keyboard the last 25 years doesn't do a thing for the human body but atrophy it. Yeah, I know I'm doing that very thing right now but I gotta spread the message and I'd appreciate it if ya cut a guy some slack, k? :-)
Anyway, I Yelped massages in PDC and came across Alma Thai. I read through the reviews and thought 'hey, Thai massage sounds just like the thing to relieve these aches and pains', so I rolled the dice and made an appointment. And I'm really glad I did because the therapy was at 9:30 this morning and I still feel FANTASTIC, the vast majority of aches and pains are amazingly relieved. Truth: after the session, I walked out of the massage therapy spa this morning very, very relaxed and relieved and thought 'I wonder how long this feeling is gonna last?' Well, it's still going strong eight hours later.
Christian is a very calm and competent massage therapist. His office is COVID-friendly, meaning we both wore masks during the session (and for which I was very glad). Soothing music played in the background during the session. Please excuse the following layman's description: Thai massage seems to be a mixture of muscle/joint manipulation as well as deep tissue massage. Christian started the session by having me lie on my back and manipulating my left leg - from the toes/foot/ankle up through the hip joint - through what I can only describe as 'range of motion' stretches. After these, there was deep tissue massage (probably not a technically correct description but he dug deep and it felt good all along my spine) at what I think were where the muscles attached to the bone. Then he moved to the right side and repeated the process. Then he had me flip over and did a different set of massage processes to the front of my body. And then the hour was up.
The end result is that I went in there this morning full of aches and pains and now, feel next to no pain. And I've had lower back pain (right lower lumbar) for ~ 40 years that numerous chiropractors weren't able to put a dent in. Now ... can hardly feel it right now. Just amazing.
Will I go back? You betcha. Thanks Christian ... YOU ARE THE MAN! read more
