Wow! Delicious and unique flavors! And the sweetest business owner. Ally's Cocina is a hidden gem, woman-owned Venezuelan food truck, tucked in at the Kauai Mini Golf. It's located on the patio. Order food from Ally's, and then while you wait, order drinks at the Mini Golf Cafe, across the patio. Four of us ordered way too much but enjoyed it all. Our fave items: -King Kong Arepa with chicken (chicken, black beans, avocado, fried egg, feta, and Ally's cilantro-garlic sauce (we ordered this fresh, flavorful sauce on the side)) -King Kong Arepa with pork -Cachapa The arepas are substantially stuffed so I'd probably share one next time. I first tried Ally's Cocina in May of last year and left really impressed, especially with the arepas. They came blistering hot off the flat top, perfectly seasoned, and filled generously. They were the kind of dish that made me want to come back, so I was excited to return recently. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was a big letdown. I'm not sure if the quality has slipped or if I just caught them on a bad day, since recent reviews are still very positive, but what I was served this time was nowhere near the same level. I ordered the chicken and avocado arepa, the slow roasted pork arepa, and a side of beans and rice. The beans were flavorful and well seasoned, but the rice was just plain white rice. Both arepas were generously filled, but the fillings and the bread itself were disappointing. The chicken was barely warm, dry, and completely unseasoned. The pork was hotter but not very tender, with a flavor that didn't stand out, and the cheddar cheese inside wasn't even fully melted. The biggest problem, though, was the arepas themselves. Instead of coming out hot and crispy like before, they tasted like they had been sitting out. They were barely warm, bland, and without the crispness that made them so memorable on my first visit. Seating is outdoors under a large shared shade structure with plenty of tables for Ally's, the bar, and a nearby pizza truck. Parking is easy with a large lot, which makes the setup convenient. Overall I left disappointed, especially since my first visit was so good. I hope this was just an off day, because Ally's Cocina can clearly deliver great food when everything is on point, but my most recent experience fell short. read more

The area also doesn't allow outside beverages including water... Huge upside is that we happened to come for Friday night dinner, right when they host a trivia game night which was very fun! Came here after hiking Stone Dam and it was the perfect meal. The food came out pretty quickly for there just being one person working there! The plate and the arepa with chicken and avocado were perfect. The mini arepas were crunchy and not oily, the shrimp has the perfect sauce on them, and the avocados were so tasty. This was shockingly good. We were staying in Princeville for a few days and got tired of the so-so food right in town and decided to drive out a little bit. It was 100% worth it and the best thing we had on north shore. If you like savory sweet even remotely, Cachapa with Roast Pork was the thing to order. Comes with two sauces and avocado. The food was ok, they were out of chicken which was unfortunate. We were told it would be a 30 minute wait and it was 50 minutes. If we had known that we would have happily gone elsewhere. The frustrating part is a woman came after us and they chatted at length while everyone else was waiting for food...and she got her food before us. Tasty shrimp, arepas were like little inner tubes of crispy deliciousness, if you are like me and enjoy grits-like texture, they are amazing! WOWZERS!!!! We came here after reading the reviews and decided we should stop in to try Venezuelan food. At first we ended up in a golf course and weren't sure where we were but it's tucked in behind the shop at the golf course. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh and we all ordered different things to try. I had the Ally's plate with garlic shrimp and it was absolutely delicious, my friends had the Arepa with saute shrimp and avocado. Normally I cannot finish an entire plate but I ate every bit of it and wanted more. We all tried different dishes and they were all spectacular. After a hike this place hits the spot. Back on Kauai and of course we couldn't leave without first stopping at Ally's. Everyone I recommend her food to is absolutely hooked. It's so delicious and I miss it on Oahu-I wish she'd come to Oahu!! I'm craving it already. I got the Ally's plate again but this time with the pork. Ally's Cocina is a bit out of the way but we'll worth the effort. Food was fantastic, fresh and flavorful. We tried the pork plate, the shrimp arepa and the King Kong pork plate. All were well seasoned and served with a fresh avocado salad. The mass arepas were tender and delicious. The fried arepas were great too. I loved this food! The flavors really popped. I loved that it was in an open space with variety of seating and within walking distance was a big park for kids. It's on a mini golf course but open to the public. I had to do the spicy sauce on the side because I was sharing with my daughter but it was soooo good. It was a spicy that snuck up on you didn't immediately burn but once you felt the heat you got a little sweat going. I would say it would be smart to do like a circulating fan or something probably a few just to help keep the everyone more comfortable. One arepa was pretty filling I don't feel like I needed a side but the King Kong plate was huge. read more

Ally's is located on the backside of Anaina Hou Mini Golf and Community Center. There is a nice sized free parking lot. A kind Venezuelan chef, Ally, cooks up authentic Arepas, 100% corn masa pocket, stuffed how you desire. I love the black beans. My son prefers the chicken with avocado. Everything is gluten free and there are multiple vegan options too. Ally makes everything fresh so expect a 15 minute wait if they aren't busy. In addition to the great food, the mini golf botanical gardens and community playground make this a spectacular spot for children. The back drop is the lush Kauai landscape so ambiance is laid back and scenic. Adults can also grab a coffee or alcoholic beverage at the community center. As a fellow Venezuelan I can tell you Ally's place is legit! You can tell she takes pride on her cooking, everything tastes fresh and delicious. My favorite was the roasted pork! You can get a heavenly plate (rice, beans, cheese, etc) or you can pack an arepa with it! I got the arepa with pork and cheese, and I had to come back the following day because I didn't have enough. The tostones (fried green plantain) were also a hit, my daughter loved the fried tiny arepas with cheese, delish! Yum. The sauces are on point, full of flavor and the perfect addition to your meal. I only have good things to say about Ally's cocina, it's so much better than any place around Los Angeles, a different level. I'll come back anytime I am in Kauai. Yum. The arepas are delicious! We got shrimp, pork, and avocado plates and arepas. Ally is upbeat and happy, you can tell she loves what she does, and it comes out through her food. Located community center, the covered eating area has a beautiful view of the playground and surrounding jungle. If you go right at lunchtime, call ahead to avoid a long wait or go before or after the rush. But if you do go at noon, the wait is well worth it! OK, the first thing you need to know about this place is that it is in the back of the mini golf location. I want you to know this because I don't want you to miss this fantastic little spot. We found Ally's Cocina on Yelp and couldn't be happier that we did. It's a small little spot but the food is amazing. I got the slow cooked pork plate, and my wife got the chicken avocado Arepa. Basically you go to the entrance of the mini golf and just let the people working the checkin of golf that you're going to Ally's and then you sign your name on a list and enter (no charge). A few picnic tables and very clean restrooms near by. Bonus Tip** Farmers Market in the same parking lot on Saturday mornings Ally was rocking the food stand solo (which I think she does often).
