Fan-freakin'-tastic. I needed a courier in a hurry on VALENTINE'S DAY, of all times (yes, yes, I did leave my goody delivery planning -til the last minute). Consulted Yelp. Called one other service for an estimate on a delivery of two small packages less than 5 miles, anytime within the subsequent 4 hours and was quoted $65.
Ee gads, Kimi! Why ist thou such a procrastinator? $65 was more than the cost of both gifts combined, and certainly not within my budget.
Time was a-runnin' out, so I dialed the number for the next Yelp suggestion near me, Allstate. Got Carl on the phone. Carl was super-helpful, checked his drivers' schedules, didn't laugh when I told him the gifts weren't packaged up yet and asked could I call him back when they were, and quoted me $25.
I jumped for joy and dashed out the door to try to find appropriate Valentine's Day packaging that would keep the wine bottle from breaking and not be too delicate for a courier to have to try to handle.
I made it back with only seconds to spare from the time Carl had estimated he could get a driver to me, called Carl back, and was told, sure, the guy would be there in 5 or 10 minutes.
One scribbled card and two hastily bagged packages later, the driver (husky mixed-looking dude with very short black hair....I neglected to get his name) appeared promptly at my door and didn't even give me (deserved) attitude when I asked could he hang on a sec so I could scribble out the second card's message. I had zero cash on me, of course, since I'm such an impeccable planner, and apologized for the lack of tip. But, he didn't even seem fazed and was more concerned with getting back on his route. All in all, a very personable guy. And he got the delivery right!
I called Carl back and asked if he could put a little tip on the credit card bill, for which he'd already taken all my info earlier, in his efficient way. He said yes, and I'm hoping my driver got his bit of extra. Carl even went so far as to say that since they normally dealt in corporate accounts, the driver wasn't expecting a tip. I thought that was nice, as he was politely giving me an out if I wanted it.
All in all, a highly satisfactory experience. These guys squoze me in late on a HOLIDAY, were extremely prompt, worked with my limitations, were totally nice, got my stuff to the right place at the right time, and charged me a supremely reasonable price. Very recommended! read more
