AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care

AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care

Do not go here. The owner/manager installed a faulty transmission and lied to me about it. After 18…read moredays of my car being in their shop and 2 different bills to fix my car, my car still didn't run correctly. I was told by the owner that I needed a new transmission, and then once that was installed, he reluctantly remembered or realized that new wiring was needed, which would have been easy when the transmission was going in, but it would be another large bill since everything was already assembled. After I finally got the car back after 18 days, it was not shifting properly, it was shifting slowly and clunkily. I brought it back, left it with them for 3 days, and they called me up and said everything was fine and they couldn't detect anything was wrong. I picked it up, drove it; there were the same problems. I drove it back. I sat with the owner and drove with him in it and pointed out what I was feeling and hearing. He said during this drive, "Oh, that's completely normal." Then he said, "Oh, I think you're imagining it. You're looking for something to be wrong," and then he said, "Well, it should go away in a week because it is still calibrating." So it went from "nothing is wrong" to "that is normal" to "wait a week for it to be better" in the same day with this owner. I waited a week; it did not fix itself, so I called Corporate to have another AAMCO check/inspect it since I knew I could not trust the Hawthorn owner/manager since he literally lied to my face as the car was running. They sent me to another AAMCO run by a different franchise who test drove it, inspected the transmission, and told me instantly he knew things were wrong. He wrote a report with pictures to Corporate. He had also told me what was listed on my bill from AAMCO Hawthorn did not match up to what seemed to be done in the car and some of the "Fixes" did not seem to make sense. I think he knew I got scammed. The report was sent to AAMCO corporate to be reviewed by an Expert Technician. Though Corporate never gave me the exact report from the Expert Technician, a week and a half later, they sent him a new transmission to be installed in my car at the NEW AAMCO, not AAMCO Hawthorn. This wound up being a 7-week ordeal. The new manager Corporate sent me to was honest and trustworthy. Don't go to this AAMCO. There's a huge amount of unprofessionalism; nobody is in a uniform or AAMCO clothes. The place was dirty with a kitchen counter/table in the lobby with opened condiments on it and plastic utensils on the ground. The Manager is only sometimes on site. They never took my email or sent me any email confirmations. They bill they send you closes after you pay it and you can't review it. The Manager/Owner asked me to pay cash for the 2nd bill. Communication was awful. It was always "it is about to be done" and I wouldn't hear from them for three days. The owner called from his personal cell to discuss billing, so none of the calls were recorded. I think he thought he could take advantage of me because I was a one-time customer. I paid way too much for work that was not properly done for a defective transmission that was installed, and then the owner lied to my face about it. Go somewhere else.

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS! I had originally brought my car in for a code u100 (Lost Communication with…read moreECM/PCM). I was told I needed a new transmission which ran me about $6000. After the car being in the shop over a week I called an asked for updates on my car and they had told me they were waiting on parts to arrive. After a little over 2 weeks they had updated me that there was water in the trunk and that this damaged the communication from the ECM to transmission. Finally 3 weeks in and learned the ECM needed to be replaced an extra $1200. From my perspective it seems they did not diagnose the car issue properly and we're not the least bit understanding of my frustration. On top of the situation both the lady at the front desk and the shop owner were not easy to deal with and at times rude to me. After over a month of having my car I finally picked up the car and everything in my glove compartment and center console was left on the passenger seat. On top of that I was given back a broken key fob. AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COSTS. NOTHING BUT A HEADACHE AND DECEITFUL BUSINESS PRACTICES.

Initially, they were reluctant to repair it, despite it being covered by their one-year warranty. They intentionally delayed the repair for three months to let it fall outside the warranty period. A month later, it failed again, and they refused to take any action since it was beyond the "one-year warranty. They wouldn't answer my calls unless I called from a blocked number. Overall, I spent about $6,200 to only get about 10,000 miles from it. I am dissatisfied with my purchase. Their company should aim to build long-term relationships with clients. Mistakes and complaints are inevitable in any business, but how you handle these situations defines the quality of your work.

My shop had to ship it back to them twice and they had to ship out defective or improperly installed parts 3 times. My shop had to pull and reinstall the tranny 3 times. John would not answer his phone or email in a timely manner. I am stuck with a $7000 lemon. It causes problems with the 4x4 system and does not shift well. My shop tried everything to get it fixed right. IPT had responses like they had to go to an inferior part, broken wires on the rebuild, not replacing sensors, no build sheet. They finally paid my shop for the extra work $1000 when they asked for more. I got nothing from them. I asked for a partial refund so I could take it to a local shop to see if they could fix it. They refused to answer me. NOTHING. BAD PRODUCT, CUSTOMER SERVICE.
