We adopted two brother kittens from HPA! in 2018. They were being fostered at the time, and HPA…read morestaff were so kind and helpful throughout the entire process. They also include spay/neuter and their first 8 weeks of shots in the adoption fee, plus our cats were on BOGO special. We donate as much as possible to help other animals but I have only great things to say about HPA. One thing I will say is to make sure you have any and all paperwork you need when you're there in person. They don't really answer the phone or their email, but I have gotten responses on Facebook messenger.

On April 11, I adopted a very sweet brown tabby cat through the organization, PetsAlive. I named…read moremy new cat Theodore and was told that Theo had been found on the streets and had recently had scabies, eye surgery and skin issues - all of which seemed to be healing nicely. I was never told of his extensive dental disease or that he had feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). I noticed that Theo's energy level seemed a little low, but he was eating very well and didn't display any signs of digestive issues. I DID notice that his breath was very smelly, so I took him to my veterinarian. The long story made short is that Theo will have to have several teeth extracted and his length and quality of life could be affected because bloodwork showed that he is positive for FIV. I have requested that PetsAlive take care of the dental issues Theo has since I can't afford thousands of dollars for teeth to be extracted. My concern of permanently returning Theo to PetsAlive is that his cycle of being an unwanted rescue cat will continue. His life could be one of going from adoption site to adoption site and never being adopted because of his bad teeth and FIV diagnosis. Please be aware that, according to my veterinarian, there are several no kill shelters that DON'T test animals for FIV or leukemia. Before you adopt an animal, please ask if the animal has been thoroughly tested for diseases that could affect the animal's health and wellbeing.

My dog is a little difficult because she doesn't like being touched by certain people and becomes defensive. Dr Vaughn with Michael's help were always so patient and I am really grateful they treated Ruby with care. I recommend them, but also be patient. The clinic sees a high volume of animals and it's not just in and out as it would be at your private vet. I absolutely recommend. I also want to give kudos to Dr Malone who did Rubys first surgery, the sutures were impeccably done. I am personally a fan of the humane society vet clinic.

Please please do NOT foster for this organization if you have other foster opportunities. The vet…read moreteam generally speaking refuses to work with you and is on some sort of power trip, clearly not placing the kittens best interest in mind. For example, they routinely refuse to prescribe antibiotics for bloody diarrhea which they clearly stated was within their diarrhea protocol. The shelter vet herself (Renee Poche) is a failed reality TV star from Love is Blind but all her parts got cut, not sure if that led to her being bitter and needing to "be better than others"?? Clearly a very superficial woman that even solicits compliments about her looks from other fosters. When I brought up discrepancies in how the kittens are being managed compared to other organizations I have fostered for and contacted the director of HHS, nothing was done. Then I had kittens that the vet team said perhaps had panleukopenia but when I brought them in for a vet appointment they refused to test for panleuk. This is highly unethical as if it was panleukopenia they it will have exposed my foster space to the virus and everything needs to be tossed. They also asked me to bring the kittens in and did not return them to my care without any specific reason. When I reached out to the directors again with this concern of retaliation, I was then immediately dismissed as a foster. This has never happened in 10 years of fostering for 5 different organizations before. That said, the foster department is wonderful, Bree especially is a kind human beings who really try to help out and clearly loves animals.

This shelter is a joke and they do not care about finding good homes for pets in need. I attended…read morethe 73rd Houston Cat Club Charity Cat Show on 01/11/26 with a family member who was interested in adopting one of the rescue cats that HOPE had onsite at the show. We went to the show specifically so she could adopt a cat. The disrespect I received from HOPE staff was unreal. I have never been insulted or talked down to the way your staff talked to me. We were interested in adopting Maverick. We asked if he was an "Indoor or outdoor cat?" - out of curiosity and learning about him. Because we "dared" asked that, the entire staff immediately decided we wouldn't be able to offer him a good home (for whatever reason). This is even after my family member filled out an application and voiced that it's no worries, she would keep him inside. They talked down to us and were extremely ageist. They said she was too old to adopt on her own and would need a "back up" applicant. I offered to be that for her. I have a house and two cats of my own. I was then questioned about my age and being "too young." Mind you I'm 32 years old. They dodged us multiple times when we attempted to turn in the application and move forward with the adoption process. We probably wasted about 30 minutes just standing around waiting for an answer. Finally they send someone over to tell us that she's not approved to adopt Maverick. There's no way every single adoptee at that show is able to be fully vetted on their intentions with the cats. To be told that we're basically not capable of providing a cat a good home is laughable. Their staff was insufferable and extremely rude. There was no organization or communication. I do not recommend spending your time trying to adopt a pet from them.

My kitten had multiple worms infested in her not just tape worm, she was infested with fleas, her microchip CAME OUT and she had a bad skin infection, she had an upper respiratory infection AND DAMAGE TO HER NOSE that caused her to bleed out of her nose and not be able to breath!!!! They LIE to you at the adoption all this stuff to vet them was done but they do NOT do the boosters that the cat should get on their vaccines, so you have to redo them all. They do NOT do the rabbies so you have to do it. All they did was give a topical treatment which was NOT even the right dosage for her!! Now thousands of dollars later, she still has to see the vet because they did not properly vet her and the foster that had did not take care of her and had apparently beat her to cause nose damage. She was also 2 lbs UNDER WEIGHT!!! DO NOT ADOPT HERE. Get one off the streets you will be better off.
