A great organization that puts itself out there to save as many pets from euthanasia as possible. Volunteers work to get rescues healthy and run adoption events every weekend. Be sure and visit the website if interested in getting involved or adopting.

It took me a while to take the step to fostering an animal. But after much research I decided to go with Houston Pet's Alive. I love the work they do to save animals but what touched me was what they did for all the displaced animals after Harvey. I've fostered 4 dogs so far and thru HPA events found them forever homes. Such a rewarding experience.

My fiancé and I adopted one of our dogs, Chulo, from HPA in 2019. As someone who is now actively involved in the rescue community and has worked with many rescues, I felt the need to write this review about Kristen, our adoption coordinator. Kristen was so well organized, which is rare for most rescues we have encountered. She took the time to make conversation with us, ask us about our life and life plans. I knew she was vetting us to see if we were a good fit to adopt a dog, and I appreciated that because I knew that she would not adopt dogs out irresponsibly and had the dogs best interests in mind AND at the same time we never felt wrongly judged. We played with Chulo in a secure room while she called our vet, landlord and references. When she returned we talked more and eventually signed adoption papers for our new family member. He had not been neutered yet so it was a few days later that I was actually able to bring him home. Kristen kept in contact with me the whole time and prepared me for what I needed to do once he was home. When I was carrying Chulo to my car (he had just had surgery), Kristen and I were both crying happy tears. Chulo was so frightened and anxious, but we both knew that he was going to his forever home and would become a happy and healthy pup. She reminded me to register his microchip, suggested pet insurance, and followed up with me to see how he was adjusting. She was there with us through the whole process, which I am SO grateful for. Kristen is someone who deeply cares about the dogs at HPA and for that I have the highest appreciation for what she does for Houston's rescue community. I cannot think of a better fit for someone in the rescue/adoption industry than someone like her. Thank you for everything you do, and introducing me to my best friend, Chulo (who is not thriving and conquering his anxiety like a champ!) I cannot be more grateful.

Typical pet people--rude, weird, holier-than-though, and don't like being around other humans.

On April 11, I adopted a very sweet brown tabby cat through the organization, PetsAlive. I named…read moremy new cat Theodore and was told that Theo had been found on the streets and had recently had scabies, eye surgery and skin issues - all of which seemed to be healing nicely. I was never told of his extensive dental disease or that he had feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). I noticed that Theo's energy level seemed a little low, but he was eating very well and didn't display any signs of digestive issues. I DID notice that his breath was very smelly, so I took him to my veterinarian. The long story made short is that Theo will have to have several teeth extracted and his length and quality of life could be affected because bloodwork showed that he is positive for FIV. I have requested that PetsAlive take care of the dental issues Theo has since I can't afford thousands of dollars for teeth to be extracted. My concern of permanently returning Theo to PetsAlive is that his cycle of being an unwanted rescue cat will continue. His life could be one of going from adoption site to adoption site and never being adopted because of his bad teeth and FIV diagnosis. Please be aware that, according to my veterinarian, there are several no kill shelters that DON'T test animals for FIV or leukemia. Before you adopt an animal, please ask if the animal has been thoroughly tested for diseases that could affect the animal's health and wellbeing.

I would not recommend using Spring Branch Rescue Transport for out-of-state pet adoptions,…read moreespecially if you're adopting a cat. The rescue organization I adopted through was outstanding. They communicated clearly throughout the process, helped match us with the right pet for our family before we even adopted, and worked with us to find what they believed would be the fastest transport option. Unfortunately, the transport experience itself was the exact opposite. Communication from Spring Branch Rescue Transport was poor and often confusing. Updates were primarily provided through a Facebook group chat, which required scrolling through long message histories just to piece together where the transport was and when your pet might arrive. Even the dog owners--who make up the majority of their transports--were regularly asking for updates because information was so limited. One of the biggest frustrations was the transport schedule. The screenshots showing pickup and drop-off locations didn't include dates, and the stops weren't numbered. A simple numbered route with estimated dates or even the expected order of stops would have made it much easier for adopters to understand where the transport was and when to realistically expect their pet. Instead, it felt like you had to put your life on hold while waiting for updates. For cat owners, I would strongly recommend looking for another option. Our cat spent more than four days in the transport vehicle, surrounded by numerous other animals in what was undoubtedly a stressful environment. The uncertainty around arrival times also made planning nearly impossible. I watched other adopters in the group chat rearrange important milestone life events and even drive to different states because the delivery window kept vaguely changing or remained so broad. Looking back, I would have skipped the transport altogether. Flying to the rescue, renting a car, and driving home with your pet would have given us complete control over the schedule while likely making the trip far less stressful for the animal. While I appreciate the work involved in transporting rescue animals over long distances, the communication, organization, and scheduling experience left a lot to be desired. For anyone adopting from out of state--particularly a cat--I believe there are better options.
