Thank you to the amazing team at the Houston Humane Society on Almeda Rd. My two year old staffy Gigi has been microchipped, vaccinated and spayed here. The front desk crew are caring and welcoming towards the animals including my girl everytime I go there. Prices are also reasonable and the wait time is not bad depending on the time you go. Please check them out whether you are thinking about adopting or for animal wellness.

Not gonna lie, I was a bit skeptical, as my mother lives down the street and she always has trouble with stray cats. But that might not be clinic related. It might be related to the adoption side. I will say that I have not had a cat in over 10 years because I was traumatized After my cat passed away. I am ready to be a cat mom again, and having to get my kittens, spayed and neutered was a tough decision and Houston Humane Society made it easy, seamless, problematic free, and great cost for a low-cost clinic. I am amazed at the type of service that I got, and the attention that they gave my kittens. I was only going to use the Houston Humane Society for the spay and neutering, but after the service and attention that I received, I think my kittens will do just fine having their treatment there. A young gentleman Michael returned my call this evening after checking on my kittens a couple of days ago. Their new automated system sent me a message if I had any concerns and I responded this morning, and thoughtfully received a phone call from Michael. He resolved any of my concerns and made me feel at ease that my kittens were doing well.

Great for low cost service that you can't find anywhere else! Also love looking at all the pups available for adoption.

Never pick up the phone . I was there so quiet not even a dog bark . The girl at front desk keep texting on her phone . Today I've been trying to call that number for 4 hours no one pick up the phone . If doesn't want to run business just close it . No wonder why this place 2.5 stars

Walked in to get a kitten, walked out with a kitten same day, the staff were super friendly and helped with everything we needed, you could tell the staff really cares about these animals

I adopted the two most amazing kittens from here . I got a free 3 day checkup for both kittens to make sure they are doing well and provided any medicine they needed free of cost. The workers are very helpful and i couldn't have had a better experience!!!

I was very impressed with how well-structured the program was at the Houston Humane Society. I went there as a volunteer today, and really enjoyed my time there. All of the animals are kept in designated kennels, but instead of the metal bars you envision when you hear this word, they were all in glass-walled private rooms so they could see out and vice versa. They pair specific animals based on personalities and needs. Each room has a sheet that provides anyone with specific details about the animal, including personality traits and most recent interactions (walks, etc). There is a beautiful little garden dedicated to one of their past pups (see attached pictures) for dog walking, as well as a serene space dedicated to a pet cemetery that was already on the property when it came into the Houston Humane Socoety's possession where the dogs also enjoy walking. The staff were working hard while we were there too; cleaning kennels, walking dogs, and helping potential families to meet matches. They even have a veteran house cat who helps them to determine if potentially adoptable dogs can handle moving into a home with cats. They can always use more volunteers, so please consider it! And definitely check them out if you are interested in adopting or fostering. They frequently run promotions and dropped prices for adoptions, so stop by and help someone find a fur-ever home!

They also include spay/neuter and their first 8 weeks of shots in the adoption fee, plus our cats were on BOGO special. We donate as much as possible to help other animals but I have only great things to say about HPA. One thing I will say is to make sure you have any and all paperwork you need when you're there in person. They don't really answer the phone or their email, but I have gotten responses on Facebook messenger.

I was never told of his extensive dental disease or that he had feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). I noticed that Theo's energy level seemed a little low, but he was eating very well and didn't display any signs of digestive issues. I DID notice that his breath was very smelly, so I took him to my veterinarian. The long story made short is that Theo will have to have several teeth extracted and his length and quality of life could be affected because bloodwork showed that he is positive for FIV. I have requested that PetsAlive take care of the dental issues Theo has since I can't afford thousands of dollars for teeth to be extracted. My concern of permanently returning Theo to PetsAlive is that his cycle of being an unwanted rescue cat will continue. His life could be one of going from adoption site to adoption site and never being adopted because of his bad teeth and FIV diagnosis. Please be aware that, according to my veterinarian, there are several no kill shelters that DON'T test animals for FIV or leukemia. Before you adopt an animal, please ask if the animal has been thoroughly tested for diseases that could affect the animal's health and wellbeing.

I mean, I'm not going to lie, after reading all those reviews, I was expecting the worst, I was expecting rude staff, I was expecting to walk in and walk out. We would rate this place 10-stars if we would. First off, the staff here were WONDERFUL. Sarah at the front desk was here both times we came and she was so friendly/helpful/caring. She had the biggest smile on her face the whole time and answered all our questions and never once even had a hint of rudeness or annoyance with my million questions. The other 3 staff we had interactions with were great as well. We fell in love with a tiny little kitten online and got to take her home THAT DAY. Like, maybe 15-20 minutes later!! We were never hassled about wanting a kitten over an old cat like another reviewer stated. Sarah was so GLAD that we wanted to give one of their animals a loving home. While looking at all the other available animals, we noticed a litter of super fluffy orange kittens and inquired about them. They hadn't been checked by their staff vet yet but they took my number and called me when the kittens were ready to be adopted. So visit #2 was just as WONDERFUL as our initial visit. We held 3 of the "floofy" orange babies and decided on one. Again, since my application was filled out days before, I didn't even need to re-apply. We left with baby #2 within minutes. Bonus, the adoption cost was: FREE!!! Now, because our babies were so tiny, they hadn't been spayed and neutered yet but they both came with $75 vouchers to have that done. We just LOOOOOVE our new fur babies and highly recommend Pearland Animal Control and Pet Adoption!!!

I was referred to this shelter. Upon arrival, the male receptionist mentioned "all of our cats are…read moresick except for two". That really makes you think about the quality of care at this establishment. The white female at the front (blonde, bony) will reject helping animals in need to lessen her own workload. The entire time I was there, she acted as if they were going to help and shelter an animal i brought in. Then came up with excuses as to why she wouldn't take the animal in, even though the animal was found in the area. She actively wasted my time. Pathetic location with a clear reputation of not helping animals (which is their job) and only being interested in money. I wouldn't recommend this establishment.

Their negligence, malpractice and cruelty they've shown in preparing this cat for adoption cost us $5,000. The cat we adopeted meowed CONSTANTLY and had our resident cat terrified. We were going to send her back to their shelter. When her meows started to become howls of pain, we did what we could for her EVEN THOUGH WE WERE GOING TO RETURN HER but her condition was untreatable and we had to humanely euthanize her. She died from malpractice during her spay resulting in a large, growing mass in her abdomen. A competent vet would've spotted this immediately and treated her before dumping her on us as well-meaning adopters. The moral of this story is to NEVER adopt from an out of state agency -- especially this one. We would have seen in a matter of seconds that this cat had problems and was not compatible for our household. LSP advertised her as "fully vetted" which was an overt lie. Save yourself a lot of heartache and money by going to meet your prospective adoptee IN PERSON. The descriptions of the pets they advertise may not be accurate. She was not "fully vetted". Also her constant vocalization problem was not mentioned but one of the images they posted clearly shows her meowing as she did constantly. When I informed LSP of the misery and large expense they had inflicted on us and this poor cat, I didn't receive as much as a reply, let alone an apology, condolences or an offer of restitution which was pretty cruel of them. Don't trust a word they print and simply move on to a local shelter for adoption. Please save yourself from the misery and cruelty we experienced by adopting from Lonestar Pawz. This cat suffered and we paid the price for Lonestar Pawz's negligence and dishonesty in their ad. My final, unacknowledged communication with LSP was as follows: We won't be returning Rosie to you on the 22nd as previously planned. I wanted to let you know that you delivered us a very sick cat. After a month of putting us through hell, we had to euthanize her the other day. Her constant vocalizations quickly devolved into howling on Saturday which alerted us to the fact that she was in pain. We immediately rushed her to the ER. At her initial vet exam, it was noted that she had a mass in her abdomen that raised some concern though it didn't appear to be an emergency. As her constant vocalizations started to change we had an ultrasound performed on her. The mass in her abdomen was confirmed though its exact nature was still somewhat of a mystery. The mass WAS LARGE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED AND DEALT WITH BEFORE YOU ADOPTED HER OUT! THIS is NOT why we were returning her to you. We were returning her because her behavior (constant vocalization) turned our home upside down and had our other cat extremely upset. He is an extremely social cat but her behavior caused him to isolate himself, completely out of character. THIS is why she was being returned. On Saturday morning her howls became distressing so we took her to the ER where we had a CT scan performed. The mass inside her was extremely large and was pushing on her spine, colon and ureter and was beginning to protrude from her anus and vagina. While surgery was discussed, the vet and radiologist said the mass was essentially inoperable. The mass had obviously been present for quite some time. Had you given Rosie an even cursory physical exam, any competent vet would have spotted the mass as something that warranted further investigation before adopting her out. If an exam WAS performed, the vet responsible should lose their license to practice for malpractice as this cat was put through hell. I'd like you to have any vet involved to read this. While we opted not to have Rosie autopsied, the general consensus was that the mass was likely caused by a botched spay. Once again, whoever butchered this little cat should never be allowed to touch another cat. I want you to have that person to read this also. The bottom line is, you gave us a cat with only about a month to live. Your negligence has caused immesurable physical, mental and financial anguish for Rosie, my wife and I and our cat Michael. Rosie had the best of care with us and our brief time together has cost us $4903.67. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. If you had any integrity or decency you'd pay for this since YOU should've taken care of this obvious health problem before Rosie was ever adopted. May you never experience the misery that you visited on us.

The rented space is large, airy, and spacious enough for several kennels to line the walls without overcrowding. Due to the high ceiling, warehouse style accomodation, it smells fairly fresh & clean in here. It's also dark and cool, and most dogs were found napping their way through the morning...a stark difference from other adoption places I've been to. It was easy to move through the space, and foster parents sat next to their pups like proud parents, eager to do a show and tell if so requested. What I liked most about this place is that the dogs here seemed to be happy! I rarely saw nervous, jittery dogs. Most were in their kennel, eager to play with visitors; others in their foster parents' arms, and some napping, barely opening an eye to peer at us. Though I did not come away with a new child that day, I wouldn't hesitate adopting one from this group. I spent a good 20 minutes talking to a foster mom about this organization and I'm completely thankful and hopeful that there are still many altruistic people left in this world. If you're considering adding a member to your family, please put Pup Squad Animal Rescue on your list as a must-visit.

They have dogs in all shapes sizes and colors and all (I'm pretty sure) in good health. Our first visit there we were just curious but pretty interested in getting another dog to play with our very energetic shih-tzu and one that was small enough to accommodate apartment living. We walked around a bit and they did have some really cute dogs, but it wasn't until we spotted this adorable pup that I had the "gotta have this puppy" feeling. They told us he was a puppy mill dog and that he was a Tibetan terrier and maybe about 3 months old. We personally didn't have all day to make a decision and were hesitant to commit on the spot, but they guaranteed that we could have a one week home visit to make sure that we wanted to keep him and that he was compatible with our dog. They would hold the $120 check and if we didn't come back, they'd cash it. So, for $120 you get a puppy in good health who's been socialized through the foster program with as many/all of the shots and exams needed for the applicable age an optional microchip to have put in later rabies and county tags You have to fill out an application form, but they review it on the spot and if you're a shoe-in (i.e. you have a dog or know the risks/responsibilities of having a dog) they let you adopt. It was a painless process and we are very happy with our puppy. These dogs are rescues so I'm attributing that to the fact that we weren't quite sure of the age, how big he'd get, and if he was really the breed they said he was (we thought he was a bit jack russell for a while, but now due to his size, we are back with the Tibetan terrier.) The other great perk to having a rescue is that I know at least the VCA will give you a free first exam for having just adopted a rescue. A great program and system for adopting puppies! Just a note, puppy mill dogs, as I later found out, can have a lot of health problems on their own due to poor/careless breeding. Do your research!

And rock out we did. I remember walking through a door, down a hall, crossing a thresh-hold stopping in an alley right before I crossed another thresh-hold into another part of the same club? lounge? Being pulled by another Black Girl Rocker who is originally from Cali who couldn't contain her excitement as she led me upstairs for a very close and intimate performance by a local songstress who SANG tunes from the likes of Jill Scott, Selena and Erykah Badu in a room full of seated and standing party-goers. After about 20 minutes upstairs we made our way back down stairs to join the rest of our 20 ladies as we walked into...what looked like someones grandmother's living room, complete with a tv on the wall, dressers, coffee tables and couches as we caught the last quarter of the LA Clippers beating the Rockets by a 3 measly points. Ever crowded around the tv with the cousins or friends in anticipation of what is going to happen next? That's exactly what it felt like. Kinda like a room full of strangers who all just became family. We laughed and danced over hookah, making our way out the door 20 minutes later. The vibe was chill, the atmosphere was laid back and the hookah was on point. It was so cool, we coulda started and ended our night at the Alley Cat. This is such a cool spot for a nice night.
