The person at the desk wasn't friendly. Everybody in the lobby (6-8 people) were taken back before me, even people who came in after me. It was almost 30min past my appointment time and I asked if there were any stylists available because I had plans that day and again the desk person was rude and acted like I was bothering her. 45min past my appointment I finally was seated and after a very lack luster "head massage" which I paid more for, she curled my hair as quickly as possible. The curl didn't even last 30min. The volume she tried to give me only lasted 5min. Never again.

I usually go 3 months between root touch up because I don't have a ton of grays yet; that is how long it takes for the amount of gray I have to "bother" me. With Katya it was the first time I couldn't find even a single gray hair after the root touch up! Usually I find at least a few hairs that got missed, so I was really amazed she covered every single gray! On black hair it's easy to see if any grays are missed so I was like WOW, Katya did the best job ever! She will be my go-to stylist for my root touch ups now! And I think I will go more often like every 8 weeks at least because it really is a nice confidence boost to have your roots freshly done! Katya is also just so pleasant to be around, she is so kind and has a lovely personality. I also have the unlimited blowout membership which is seriously the best deal in town! I don't need to wash my own hair anymore! I usually get a blowout twice a week, sometimes 3 times. Amazing if your schedule allows you to be in the salon often, especially for women who are busy with their careers. I can work on my laptop while getting my hair blow dried and curled! Sometimes two girls will be blow drying my hair at the same time while I'm working - major boss babe vibes! LOL. The blowout membership is only for level 2 and below stylists though, which Katya has graduated beyond. But many of the other girls do great blowouts too. I will leave a more detailed review later about the salon but just wanted to shoutout Katya, if you are looking for root touch up perfection, she's your gal! The owner Ashley is also a wonderful person, she makes you feel like family, she is really a gem in the Walnut Creek community.

They posted photo's of Alison's work and her professional profile. I decided to Direct Message her on instagram hoping she would reply. Shortly after she responded and gave me her number where we had a consultation via texting and set up an appointment. It's amazing what technology can do! I used to get full highlights with my hair picked very thin, so my hair looked solid blonde. Since I let it grow out for over a year, there was a huge difference. Alison knew exactly what to do to make it look natural and cohesive with the highlights I had from before. She ended up doing a balayage and some foils to achieve the look and also cut my hair. I am so happy with how my hair turned out and she was so helpful and gave me a look that has an easier (and cheaper) maintenance from what I had before. She is such a great stylist and so sweet! However, I knew that I had to find a local go-to hair salon. Many bad haircuts ensued, but for the longest time I just couldn't find a decent hair stylist. When I first found James on the Yelp app, I was hesitant because of all the previous failures and I was like WTH is an "Aura Zoom"? And, at that time he was renting a station in the back of a beauty supply store over on Oak Grove in Walnut Creek which was kind of weird. Still, I gave him a try and was like, he's pretty good. He actually knew what a fade was. Then James relocated over to a salon off of North Main Street in Walnut Creek when he rented another station and I followed. It was here that I observed his scissor skills improve to an elite level and soon enough he was busier than the owner of the hair salon. Seriously, the dude was working seven days a week. Maybe it was jealousy at the old salon or he just needed his own space, but his move to his very own salon suite co-op space akin to a WeWorks for hair dressers within the W Salon Suites in Alamo has been awesome. Now he has his very own enclosed suite and you can get some coffee at the shared lounge that is usually brewing Philz coffee beans. James is probably the best hair stylist in the East Bay, if not the Bay Area. Give him a try if you want a great cut. He accepts cash, Venmo, and credit cards. BTW, I still have no idea what Aura Zoom means LOL. * English is not his first language, but he speaks it well. He also speaks Korean and Mandarin. * During my most recent visit, he mentioned that he was taking Sundays off. Walk-ins are not accepted and reservations are required.
