This CG is flat and level, 50 amp, water, sewer. In this town, these amenities are superior to Tiffin service center CG which turns off the water when winter arrives. Easy in/out 2 ways. Lots of room to hook/unhook your tow vehicle. You could walk to the Steak house for dinner if you want... and further. Nothing is that far away in Red Bay. Someone planted some Arborvitaes around the fence across the lot - so eventually guests will not be bothered by the barking dogs that live in the house. They are little dogs... but several. Tend to bark if they are out and RV owners walk their dogs over to the grassy area. Seemed to be less barking this trip. Perhaps they are getting used to having neighbors. :-)

For larger groups, the park also has three group camp cabins--each with 20 bunk beds and spacious bathrooms that include showers, toilets, and sinks. The park is full of history and adventure. Visitors can explore the Pioneer Cabin and its nearby waterfall, or cross the famous swinging bridge--a suspension bridge that stretches 25 feet over Bear Creek. On the other side, you'll find two trails perfect for bouldering, rock climbing, or simply wandering through the forest. That's important to us because hubby works remotely and need good wifi for conference calls. We were not disappointed, their wifi is pretty good and fast. However when the park is full, wifi seemed slow down a bit in the evenings because all coaches are back from services. It's a nice RV park compares to other RV parks in the area. It's well maintained, nice landscaping, a pond with fountain and lighting in the night. Daily trash pick ups. All sites have concrete pad, a picnic table (standard sites), a fire ring (premium sites), 50 amp, FHU. All sites are back in with pond view. Road is paved and wide. Not gated. Good size dog park in the front of the exit, there's water bowls inside the dog park, one for taller dogs, one for smaller dogs. You can pump the water in the bowls anytime, so no need to worry about no water. Very thoughtful! All pets and the owners appreciate it. Also provide doggy bags. There's covered seating on two corners, another thoughtful idea. The staffs are friendly. Due to the uniqueness of people coming here, almost every coach here is Tiffin and they all come to Red Bay for services, the service schedule might change, the park takes it into consideration and offers no cancellation policy. That's unheard of! We made reservations online. I called to reconfirm the reservations the next day. Judy, the lady I talked to on the phone is very friendly. Knowing we are there for service, she initiatively offered the option of reserving few more nights (without paying out front) because we might schedule more services when we are here. And, she was right! We had to stay couple more days for the services! She's very familiar with the whole situation and nice enough to mention it to us, so we don't have to move to other lot or ended up no lot to stay. The park was filled up during our extended stay! We loved to walk around the park with our dog, just very relaxing. There's a pickle ball court. A general store in the office. No public shower facilities. No laundry room, which is inconvenient for us because we don't have washer and dryer in our coach. We had to use a filthy coin laundry mat in town. We still think it's totally worth the extra money to stay here! If we ever come back to Red Bay, this is the only park we will stay.

Even though the beach area is in a 'No Wake' zone…read morethere is a pier, close enough to keep the waters churned up on days with heavy boat traffic. There are no lifeguards. There are clean showers, water fountains, restrooms, vending and soda machines. There is a play area for children to burn off energy. Water related activities draw a lot of visitors and at peak dates or holidays, getting into the water is difficult and even impossible. Old Bridge Beach and Piney Grove Beach both offer picnic shelters and volleyball courts along with the restroom facilities, and showers. Overnight camping is available at two campgrounds, the Piney Grove Campground run by the Corps of Engineers and the Whippoorwill Campground run by the Bay Spring Marina. Piney Grove Campground offers 139 Class A campsites with water and electrical service as well as restrooms with shower facilities, a fish cleaning station, playground and fishing piers and an amphitheater. Fishing on Bay Springs Lake is very popular and productive. There are fishing tournaments throughout the year, with the exception of winter. There was a state record 6 lb 4 oz chain pickerel at Bay Springs Lake in 1986, and Scott Wood snagged a 4.66-pound saugeye here in 2000. It isn't unusual to catch 20-30 fish a day. We always did the 'catch and release' after we had enough to feed us and our friend.

Tonight, my husband and I attended the first, hopefully an annual, State Park Christmas lantern…read moreholiday hike. It was the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge and the Christmas Carol. The trail hike, a family friendly, short and sweet, hike, with the lead of an incredible State Park Ranger. The park Ranger graciously led the way and read the story aloud. It was a family fun event. Afterwards, we were able to drive through the Christmas lights through the park. It reminded us as a similar show, from the Memphis Shelby Farms starry nights, so nice to have this here at the Pickwick State Park. Beautiful !!! We only stayed 1 night but wish we had more…read moretime. We got sight #52 which has a water view right above the swim beach. The concrete pad was pretty level and long enough for a 28' trailer and truck. The crushed gravel patio area had a nice CLEAN table, fire pit, and a pole with 2 hooks (to hang trash bags, lights, towels, etc). The bathroom, shower, and laundry were just a short walk and were very clean. The swim area has a nice beach and there is a roped off area that goes out to 6' deep. The water was warm and the bottom was sandy. The trails wander through the woods and have old asphalt paving which does not detract from the beautiful natural surroundings but feels good underfoot and isn't muddy. The caretakers are super nice people. They give you a large trash bag when you check in. USE IT! We saw a family take a grocery bag of trash to the dumpster and leave the rest of their trash scattered around their site when they left. You shouldn't pay more and stay at a commercial campground that packs you in a parking lot with hardly any trees. Check out our federal campgrounds. They're awesome.
