Cryoablation of Pundelal Nerve…read more This review is nearly two years too late. I should have submitted it long ago. I had the pudendal nerve cryoablation procedure done on February 24, 2017, a couple of days after my 56th birthday. I am a male. Most sufferers of pelvic pain are female. I was inspired to do this by an article I read. I will provide the link below. There are points that are left out of the interview with the doctor that should be shared. 1) The doctor's office will not give out success statistics over the phone. Despite Dr. Prologo's seemingly spotless record, I should have probably taken this as a red flag. If you live out of state, or in another country, having to travel long distances just to be interviewed is an inconvenience. A man with his experience should have an idea of the success rate. 2) The pre-sedation given to the patient (the type that keeps you awake, but conscious enough to follow instructions), contains lidocaine. I can't imagine any patient that wouldn't feel a miraculous sense of pain relief when your IV contains a pain killer. 3) It can also take up to 90 days to know whether or not your procedure was a success. I just read a more recent article saying that Dr. Prologo has the best success with people with pudendal nerve injury, such as from cycling. In my case, mine is pretty much stress-related. In fact, through pelvic floor PT and stretching exercises, I am now aware of the clenching I am doing to my pelvic floor muscles. I wish I could learn to relax them. If you are a "stress clencher" like me, you may want to think twice. Perhaps, my inability to relax my pelvic floor muscles is the reason I did not get any relief. If you do decide to go through with the procedure, I would recommend refusing the pre-sedation. You will know immediately if you get any relief without the lidocaine to fool you. Of course, I was told some get immediate relief and some have to wait the 90 day period. If your pain isn't relieved immediately, it isn't a sign of failure unless you're still in discomfort after 90 days. The OR nurses gave me the most honest answer just as I was about to go in for the procedure: 1/3rd experience immediate relief, 1/3rd have to wait it out for 90 days and the final third are, alas, failures. I would also think at length about having the procedure done if you know, like me, that the cause is stress. My opinion would be learning relaxation techniques, or extricating yourself from the stressful situation (usually a job or relationship), if you can. https://pelvicpainrehab.com/male-pelvic-pain/male-pudendal-neuralgia/4091/cryotherapy-effective-treatment-pudendal-neuralgia/
