Whitehill Pool is pretty much just that; one big pool and a tiny kids pool where the "deep end" reaches just above my waist. There are no chutes here; no flumes; no frills; no fun! As basic as it is, it serves its purpose if you're simply looking to swim a few lengths, however I'd advise getting in early if you want to avoid dive bombing dafties and lane hogging old ladies.

The biggest issue I have with Whitehill pool is the cleanliness of the changing rooms and also the temperature. I know it's normal for it to be cold when you get out of the swimming pool but this is something else. It is absolutely FREEZING and not only the but the showers are old and unpredictable and go from being BOILING to FREEZING in a matter of seconds. There is also the unmistakable and inexcusable smell of sewage coming up from the drains. The place really needs upgrading. It's a shame really because Whitehill is my nearest swimming pool. Laps is what I like to do the best and it's ideal because there are quiet periods where I can sometimes even have the pool to myself. It's just a shame that the facilities are so poor!

I always leave with a horrific headache after a couple of hours in an enclosed space with the high pitched squeals of sweaty children having far more fun than is good for them. However, the silver lining to these places is the guaranteed time off resulting from the muckle nap small children will need shortly after visiting. It makes that couple of hours all worthwhile and keeps me coming back and happily handing over money. Bubbles Factory is purpose built and a really good soft play. The cafe area is clean, bright and appealing and the soft play area is well maintained and adored by big and small children alike. On this visit I ordered a coffee and empire biscuit for me and a cheese sandwich for puff. It is worth noting that a wait for food is usual but since everything is freshly prepared and there is plenty to distracted impatient children this hasn't ever been an issue for us, even on really busy rainy days. The coffee isn't brilliant, it's a machine rather than proper espresso and they do loose a star for that - proper good coffee would make me much happier here! But the empire biscuit and the cheese sandwich were very good and since puff went on to sleep for a mammoth 3 hours following our visit I'll be going back.

If you're a fitness buff then you will love the gym, not so many people standing about adoring themselves as people actually training, so better than most. The changing facilities are some of the best I've ever experienced and all showers are individual for a welcome change...and they are power showers! Amazing. Gym can be quite expensive at around a 5er a pop but totally worth it!

They have "Ice Cold Fridays" on the rink which is skating but with a selection of dance anthems. On a Saturday nights it's "Sub Zero Saturdays" where they play the latest cheesy pop tunes. The toddler's swimming pool is the best I've seen with a tiny little double sided slide in it and lots of other watery attractions to keep little ones amused. For big kids like myself there is the body flume which goes outdoors and believe me you will know when you're going through the outdoors bit because your nipples will tell you! If that's not hardcore enough for you then you can always swim through to the outdoor pool which is heated but you won't be able to tell because it is still bloody freezing! We're Scottish though, we're hard and we can handle it! The gym has loads of great equipment which you would usually have to go to a private gym to find such as power plates, a climbing machine (which you can set to famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower which gives you a work out equivalent to climbing your chosen landmark!) and a ab solo machine which is a lot like those basketball games you get in arcades. If you're hungry after all that skating, swimming and working out then you can go and buy a delicious greasy sausage roll from the Waterfronts very own branch of Aulds! Random, but loving it

They're chatty, friendly, full of information - and if they can't tell you something then they go out of their way to find someone who can. I've had pool guards politely step in to help teach my son and daughter to swim - just little tips to help the parental lessons. When I turned up without change for the pool lockers (it's a £1 coin), a member of staff took 90-something pence from me and told me not to worry about the pennies. The gym is good and personal trainers are available, and the main hall is used frequently for sporting tuition and markets. Even the canteen is pleasant with its view of the pool. Quibbles? The car park often gets rammed due to sheer popularity and you have to be at least 16 (I think) to look after another child in the swimming pool. This makes it a little awkward for me to take all three of our kids unless my wife joins us. Talking of kids, if you live in Glasgow make sure they sign up for their free "Kidz Card" as it gives whopping discounts here.

I'm sorry, Peak, I'm sorry. Can you forgive me for my last review?…read more So we didn't get off to a great start but that's okay! I paid a second visit in the form of the Cannie Gingers versus the Parma Violents Roller Derby match. (GO, BRIONY, GO!) This time round, I can honestly say that as a sporting venue, it's fabulous for events. The main hall was a really good size, perfect for the various Roller Derby team stalls and the spectators were treated to bleachers, meaning you could get a great view of the action from wherever you were seated. (I really loved this, it made me feel like I was at an All-American game!) The hall's size meant minimal queuing so we really were in in no time! Whilst I can't comment on the ticketing and organisation side of things, as that was all done by Roller Derby, (They did a really good job!) the venue really did feel suited to the day and made for an all-round great experience. I can't say I'm completely enamoured by the Peak just yet since there was a leak just above my spot which meant avoiding the drips during the game! (Eek!) But in all fairness, I do think that it deserves some props for managing to host bigger scale events, similar to those held in larger cities. I may well come and try that ice rink. I'm holding out on you, Peak!

We were in the main hall which has banked seating at one end for a crowd which was good although normally a crowd would sit along the long side of the track rather than the bend. The floor itself is a normal basketball court and was very good for skating on. The changing rooms we used were very clean and fit in about 20 of us while we got ready for the game. The staff made sure to lock the room while we were playing so we didn't have to worry about our valuables which was appreciated. There was a good amount of toilet facilities which meant there weren't any queues at halftime. In the foyer area there's a shop as well as a cafe and a climbing wall which I didn't notice until we were on our way out (clearly I was too focused on the game). The car park was large enough that we got a spot easily and didn't have to wait ages to leave the car park again at the end, and it was easy to get to from Glasgow. All round, an impressive venue.

My mum also said this is where she used to take me when I was a baby so my memory of what it looked like years ago is very much a blur. When I entered it looked like a brand new centre but I heard it'd been recently done up and probably for the International Children's Games (ICG) Lanarkshire 2011. This is why I ended up here to film the swimming competitons. The staff where very helpful and the event was very well organised. I thought "how come they didnae use Blantyre Sports Centre?" but when you see the Dollan it's understandable. It was able to cope with the many children involved and that was many. They had plenty of space for changing and they have lots of seats for spectators, it really felt like I was at the Olympics as it had the look and vibe. They have a cafe in the foyer and I was looking for a room where I could upload my footage I had filmed and a kind member of staff offered me a studio. The studio looked like a dance/fitness studio and was a good size and there was some children using it for storing their stuff. I thought it was just a swimming pool but looks like it has more. Well, if you're expecting something special, don't hold your breath, unless you're swimming under the water. It's really just had a lick of paint, and they've probably strengthened the big concrete supports too. The two chutes are only open at the weekend so during the week you'll have to check what times the pool is open as they shut it at certain times for swimming clubs and lesson classes. One new thing that I did notice is the big pool divider. They can shut a big gate half way along the pool to make it into two half pools. That's it I'm afraid. We've decided that we are still going to go down to the Aqua centre in Hamilton. It's just much more interesting and fun.
