I have enjoyed using the facilities at The Peak for a number of years, and it is still my current choice as a local swimming pool and gym facility.
Although not currently a member, I held a membership with them for about three years.
A bit further out from town, the facility is a little awkward to get to and takes a little more effort the psyche yourself up for than some places which you can just walk to, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is not worth the effort.
The facility itself is very up to date and is reasonably well maintained, although there have been some instances where the changing rooms have not been maintained very well, and have been quite dirty to the point that I felt uncomfortable using them. But generally I have had good experiences with the facilities maintenance. (There was an interesting sporting event I watched where a leak in the roof fell directly onto the spectators area, but I can accept that leaks happen.)
The gym has recently been renovated and is full of a great variety of equipment and free space and the trainers who run the facility are very helpful and are quick to help with unfamiliar equipment or just quick changes to workouts.
The pool is split into a confidence pool for infants, a teaching pool with an a adjustable bottom for depth, used mainly by younger children and on occasion by water based fitness classes.
The main pool is not quite full size, but is a good pool for lengths, it is not the warmest of pools by any means, but once you are moving it's comfortable enough.
There are five studio's used for a range of sports classes and fitness programs and the trainers who come in to lead these sessions are enthusiastic and approachable.
There is a full sized climbing wall on site and, whenever I am in it always seems busy. There are trainers available to irk with you on the climbing wall, but there is also training offered so as to access the awl yourself with a training partner.
The downstairs part of the facility also has two large sports halls which, can bee booked out for a range of sport. I have used it a number of times for badminton. (I still haven't won a game though.)
The facility also has a full sized ice rink, and the free skating sessions are accompanied by some very cheesy music indeed, but it is a great ice rink to use, and the support staff are usually quick to help anyone who needs support.
There are two food and drinks facilities in the building a more formal coffee and lunch bar on the upper floor and a smaller cafe downstairs, both have a great range of drinks and food available and the standard of food is consistent, although the price is quite steep. read more
