Dr. Meyers retired! Sad time as he was the only person keeping me at this practice because he truly…read morecared for his patients. He just didn't write scripts for unnecessary prescriptions or tests. He took time with each patient and you could truly see his care. Now it's been a little while since I've been as I typically only go for my routine exams for prescription renewals. Keep in mind I've been coming here for years and I've also been on the same meds for longer than I've been coming here. I called a few weeks ago to schedule my routine exam and was told at that time that they'd send a note to the nurse practitioner for my script refills since I booked my appointment. They'd also get my blood work script out to my home address as I'd need to get that done about a week or two before my visit. Today I called because no script received to date and I was notified by my pharmacy that my script refill was denied. Spoke to the receptionist who informed me that the nurse denied my refills because she wanted to see me first. Also informed that she didn't approve my blood work because she needs to meet with me to determine what I actually need. Keep in mind I only have 10 days worth of meds left so irritated I explained that this was absurd. I cannot just simply stop taking my meds for weeks while the nurse determines next steps. I've been on these for years and there's been no change to my health to indicate it's ok to stop taking and even the warning on the meds state to not stop taking unless consultation with a doctor which I've had no consultation or tests to confirm it is ok to stop taking. In looking through my file she noticed that I was coded as a new patient so she explained since that wasn't correct she'd send my file back through to see if she'd approve. Today I just couldn't take it anymore and changed due to my experience. I just had enough and switched to another practitioner. I should not have to deal with the mere stress of this. I mean come on!

Sun Lake is a part of the same medical family as the former Northwest Family Medical Center on Linebaugh, and so it was quite easy transferring my chart up to the new office. Dr. Meyer is now located in the Sun Lake Professional Center which is north on Dale Mabry, past the northern end of the Veterans, past Calusa Trace, past Cheval......start watching for the cows on both sides of the road.....and there he is on the left in a small professional office complex. Dr. Meyer has been a family practitioner since 1989, and was an Army General Medical Officer in Desert Shield and Desert Storm before that. He is extremely knowledgeable, very personable, and really takes the time to get to know his patients. It's not uncommon to spend an extra few minutes talking about a new exercise program that I can use while traveling, or discussing the medicinal benefits of various types of hot tea, or even the details on that really good restaurant that I discovered last weekend. The mission statement in the examination rooms really says it all, "To provide the most compassionate and best quality care possible for each individual in order to enhance his or her quality of life. This includes not only physical care but also spiritual, mental, and educational support." That really says it all for me, and it explains why I will continue to go out of my way to see Dr. Meyer.

It's evident from the moment you speak to him how much he really cares for his patients' well being and health. I have not had this experience in my 15+ years working in healthcare. If you are looking for someone who cares, treats you with respect, cares about your health and most importantly that you understand your health, he's the one!! All 3 of us went (2…read moreadults & a teen at diff times) and the DR didn't once examine any of us (2 had injuries) even calling the one with a back injury healthy before moving on. He saw me for chronic pain & when focusing on nerve pain prescribed Cymbalta saying he takes 2 every morning himself for back pain. Red flags piled up in the few appointments we had with him between Sept-Dec 2020 & then the bill arrived & was coded for a mental health visit for just me, the one who was given an anxiety med for nerve pain. We called the office & his staff even felt like this was an error & assured us it would be taken care of & Dr. Swoager would call us back. Instead the front desk called us with a statement saying the DR believed I was depressed. We never once discussed this in the office ever & I had family there with me every time. Misdiagnosing someone is serious and stealing money is also a crime. I have PTSD but never discussed this with the DR because I was seeing him for pain. I vaguely mentioned some of the conditions I had previous diagnosis for but continued seeking help & an MRI for pain & a tumor I have, not anything else & that was clear. Dr Swoager took full advantage of me and my family, our health, & finances. Medical care isn't cheap which is why most have to pick & choose what they can afford to be seen for within that year  & Dr. Swoager took that right away from us. The 3 people in my family (self included) needed medical care and paid with time & money & still need to be seen to this day for the issues we saw Dr. Swoager for starting in September of last year and we are just now receiving more bills being charged at the higher mental health rate, not all, just some & no explanation for why other than a false diagnosis from a doctor who never discussed my mental state with me ever.
