To their credit, they showed up the very next day and they were on time. Two technicians arrived and immediately got to work. One was on the roof while the other worked in the basement, and it was clear they knew exactly what they were doing. They also explained that this is a family owned business, with multiple family members working together on the same jobs, which really showed in how coordinated and invested they were in the work. The scope of work involved installing a stainless steel chimney liner designed to properly vent double gas appliances, upgrading existing connections for safety and code compliance, installing two double tee connections, and finishing everything with a stainless steel top plate and rain cap. They also handled flashing and waterproofing by installing aluminum flashing with ice shield underlayment, carefully removing shingles as needed, and waterproofing the exterior of the chimney to prevent future moisture issues. What stood out most was their professionalism and communication. They explained each step clearly, answered questions without rushing, and made sure I understood why certain upgrades were necessary. The workmanship looks excellent and very clean, especially considering the complexity of the job. I gave my deposit and then was called several weeks later and said they could not do the job for that amount due to the rise in prices during COVID. The prices had already gone up when I was given the estimate, so I didn't understand why the sudden change. I think they realized that the estimate was on the low side. They will be sending me back my deposit, putting it in the mail tomorrow morning. I just don't think this is good business. From having to reschedule our initial consultation 3 times because he didn't show (no text or call to let us know). When he did arrive for the consultation, it was 2 hours late. He had high pressure, fly by night sales tactics like "I'm only going to be in this neighborhood today. I don't know when I'll be back in the area." He promised everything under the sun from cleaning our chimney, sending pictures and videos, a lifetime guarantee and etc. I pulled a picture from one of his Thumbtack reviews and told him that, that was what I wanted. He pushed back the start date twice, took one extra day to complete the project and arrived late each day. Further, requested additional payments in cash to "pay his guys" each day. He said he would send over the lifetime guarantee contract (never did). He also never sent the pictures and videos. My husband and I reached out multiple times until he became unresponsive. We were suspicious and decided to have other chimney contractors come to take a look at the job. I have attached the picture I requested from his reviews and the pictures we received upon inspection. We now have to hire a separate company to completely redo his work. We also filed a complaint with the better business bureau. We filed for a partial refund with Thumbtack. They were able to get ahold of him and he denied ever promising a lifetime guarantee (the company name is literally Lifetime Chimney Sweeps) and claimed he completed the project as agreed. I've been told by others who have since tried to help us get it working that we probably need to remove the fan that they convinced us we needed. And charged us so much for. Even if the fan did work (which it doesn't - smoke billows into the living room -- NEVER did that before Ace came) the fan sounds like an engine on an airplane, which takes away any chance of enjoying a fire. The technician was incredibly knowledgeable, and even though he came on a Saturday at 3:30 PM he told me he could have the job done Sunday morning at 9 AM. Just as he said, they arrived Sunday morning and put the liner in. He told me the smell would go away, which I was very dubious about. However, he was correct. My home does not smell like creosote anymore. I saw this company had a lot of negative reviews and I just want you to know that they did right by me. Not everybody has a bad experience. I was given a fair price for something that was absolutely necessary. I would definitely recommend them.
