She called the airline (who now had its call center overwhelmed) and waited on hold updating us along the way. During that time I did internet searches for possible other ways to get to Germany and could find none. We gave up hope, but Mary did not. She kept at it and after 3 hours on hold with the airline was able to find a way for us to land in Germany nearly 4 hours later than originally planned. When we realized a week prior to our flight that we would need a rental car for our trip, she was on it. When I had a question once I arrived at the hotel, she responded immediately.
