Don't go here. Whatever you think, it's worse. For reference, I am speaking regarding the Inwood location. Along with the impossible scheduling system that other comments mention, the facilities and instructors are terrible. To be frank, beyond the broken ceiling tiles and dirty walls and surfaces, the building has a certain odor to it.. making any kind of learning difficult. It's depressing for such a prime piece of real estate in the DFW area- you step into a broken, dirty vending machine and a cracked ceiling upon entering the facility. And the very instructors continue this theme- during my time there I tried multiple instructors, all of which were geriatric, sickly, and condescending. I started their lessons when I was freshly 16, a fact of which I was constantly criticized for by the staff who acted like I was too old for this. I'd practiced driving with my parents for several months by that point, but they liked the convenience All Star claimed to offer due to their demanding jobs. I'd had a permit for a year, and had completed the entirety of the education program before even starting All Star. I am a top student at my high school, and very obedient to the adults within my life. So that is all to say, I am a very easy client to work with. And yet, upon my first lesson, I was met with belittlement and verbal abuse, for offensives as simple as politely asking how to move the seat within the instructor's car. Despite this being 2024, I was forced to wear a mask and gloves during my lesson and have my temperature taken. I really wasn't comfortable with this, and did not consent- although I am glad to help keep an immune compromised instructor safe, I really don't see why this elderly gentleman was working a job such as this in the first place. Moreover, he was wearing a very political shirt which also made the entire situation... awkward. Throughout the lesson, he berated me and called me stupid. Asked if I needed medication or was slow. Constantly grabbed the wheel from the passenger seat (which is more dangerous than just letting me do it) and made fun of me. Mind you, I was completely comfortable with my driving before this lesson, and much of what he was yelling at me for was not following his specific technique... which, he didn't teach me. I was pushed to the verge of tears, and sobbed on my way out. But I assumed maybe it was just an instructor problem. As I tried others, it clearly was not. Every. Single. One. Of those instructors treated me like I was stupid, and a worthless ditz. These old men seemingly judged me on my gender alone, with one even mentioning to me how he "hated having a daughter." I was never treated as though I was capable of learning, or competent. Never taught, always condescendingly told something was wrong with me. The wheel was grabbed constantly when I was doing perfectly fine (by other adults measures), and many of my lessons ended in tears. That's not even to mention the extra charges placed on my family and I for "contractual issues" (aka not finishing it over the summer due to their scheduling system of a 5 minute window) and issues regarding their administration of the test, which other reviews have gone in depth into. There's no reason to send your kids here. Please, choose anywhere else! read more

All Star was very helpful every step of the way to getting my teen's DL. The process itself is very involved and All Star answered all of our questions and made sure that we were prepared with the proper paperwork (they have hand outs with what is needed so you don't miss any forms or signatures). I would say it would have been even easier if my teen had not started online classes and then transferred to All Star, but they even helped us with that portion when the online class support did not. DO NOT use All Star. My son was told if he missed 10 mins of class, they'd have to retake it. His computer died - and by the time he plugged it in and logged in - less than 8 mins - they would not allow him back in the class. The instructor ignored him in the 'online waiting room' . The instructor had lied about time - - initially told my son his time was far more than recording later revealed. ALL STAR then took 3 weeks ' to review' - and then told us the 10 mins is 'not really a rule.' Anyhow - - my son has to start class all over and pay again. read more

Took two of my teens here for driving test. Jim was very good with them both. The first kid had just failed a DMV road test for "failing to stop at a yield" even when there was no oncoming traffic in sight (!), so we came directly here and did it over and she passed with flying colors. My son wanted to do the written portion with Aceable because they have an app (which is great) so we only did driving with Allstar. We were told it included 7 hours instructional and 7 hours observational. Paid full price and did the instructional and asked when observational would begin. We were told that it is parent-observation not observation with their instructors. They would give us paperwork for him to fill out watching us 7 hours. In addition to having drive with us for 30. We had that paperwork from paying $20 for the self-taught program we signed up for with Aceable. Why do they still say their course includes 14 hours? Prior to Covid it really was--kids would ride with instructor 7 more hours watching another child and learning from what the instructor told them. But after Covid they stopped having kids share cars. Now they still charge the same fee for just 7 hours --all else is parent led! read more

First of all, IMPOSSIBLE to get a lesson. You have to sign up at a certain time every Friday and the driving lessons fill up in ten minutes. The only way to get a lesson if you didn't sign up is to see if someone else cancels which no one ever does. The place is disgusting, looks like no one cleans it. Most instructors are pretty rude, especially Roy. He is one of the rudest people I have ever met in my life. DO NOT DO A LESSON WITH HIM! He tries to make you feel stupid and makes very mean comments. He doesn't actually try to help, instead he just tells you what you are doing wrong with a really bad attitude. He also makes you wear a mask and gloves in the car which is stupid, its 2024, Roy. I know many people who have the same opinion about Roy. He enjoys making people cry. The instructors I have had a good experience with are Robin, Ron, and Chip. Chip is very patient and nice, and doesn't try to make you feel stupid and nervous. Overall, I recommend doing your driving lessons somewhere else. read more

This is one of the WORST businesses I have dealt with specifically the Inwood location. Because of its location near several of the private high schools, it basically has a monopoly on driver's ed. I signed my son up because of that very reason...the convenience. From the beginning, the communication and customer service was horrible. If you must use All-Star, please save yourself the horrible experience and go to the Richardson location. Chip is the one you should talk to: he is patient and kind and explains everything, the complete OPPOSITE of anyone at the Inwood location. Again, do NOT go to All-Star in Dallas at Inwood. Horrible. Got everything done for my road test and had to reschedule multiple time because every time I would come in and they would need new paperwork that I was never informed about or a signature that I was also never informed about. They also never gave me any information on how the program to get my license was set up. The information that I take two driving tests, one on the seventh instructor lesson and the road test after that and what I need to bring to be able to take the road test was never told to me prior to showing up for each. I had to call multiple times asking if I needed to take another road test and didn't get the answer until I showed up, they would just tell me that they can't look up whether I took it in person instead of actually telling me how the testing is set up which is what I needed to know. read more

Worst business ever. You pay up front in full for all of your classes, but only have a 2 hour window on Friday each week to try and get a drive time for the next week. Staff does not care that you cannot get a drive time. They don't own the business or make the rules. (quoted from 2 employees) Have tried for 3 weeks to get a drive time and nothing!!! Then when kids go back to school All Star reduces amount of drive times so it's even harder to get a slot. Really frustrating and wish I had gone somewhere else, but they have our money for the whole course. Instructors are good, just a terrible way to run a business. read more

I'm embarrassed to say I asked my 16 year old to find a driving school and she did, it wasn't until we tried scheduling the classes for drive time that I checked into this place as we could never get in, needless to say the other reviews were just as bad. Classroom was good but completing the class and scheduling drive time was impossible. A year later we are transferring to another school... After speaking with the owner and his attitude of " you can't please everyone" it was clear she was at the wrong school. For someone who claims to be in business for 20+ years, it's not only disappointing, but crazy that he can still say he is in business especially with the poor reviews. I hope that any parent reading this does not enroll their kid in this place as you will struggle to complete the course. BEWARE!!!!!! read more

I took my driving test there and the man failed me and wouldn't tell me what I did wrong, he just spoke to my father instead, because I am a girl and that apparently means I can't listen. Really wonderful school. Went here last summer to learn how to drive and it was great. I could always schedule an appointment and the lady who worked the counter was great and helpful. She positively did not mumble important instructions that would leave you confused and uncertain what to do next. When I would sign up for drive times, the teachers where very helpful and they would never contradict each other on how I should drive. Overall this was a wonderful experience and i will treasure it always. Best wishes GB read more

Terrible experience with this place. At my own peril, I ignored the large number of negative reviews here on Yelp. My 17 year old son took the driving test today. It was a horrible experience. We've been going to the All-Star school - and he's passed everything with ease. He has practiced with both me and momma. He's not perfect but does very well as a 17-year old. His instructor today, was a raging a-hole who seemed to go out of his way to make my son nervous. Complete disconnect between the school and prep courses and this jerk. We had to use the guy's car, not our own, and the jackwagon started with ALL the ways to fail. My son didn't do great. He admits that he was nervous and failed to get the perfect spot in the lane. But it was the manner in which this instructor belittled my son and handled the interaction that has me writing the review. Earlier in my life, I would've handled this experience differently but it seems the Yelp is mightier than the Sword. Stay away from this place. read more

So, I made a mistake and let my out of state license expire by a day . In the state of Texas that means having to go through the whole licensing process again. I had to take a 6 hour online class and thankfully a written test online, after that go to the DMV get a permit and take a driving test. I took my driving test here. Granted I learned a lot about habits I've developed over the last 16 years of driving that may not serve me well passing a driving test haha .. but the nice gentleman who tested my driving skills was very funny and tried to ease my anxiety (because having someone observe your every move made me overthink way too much). He also showed me an easier way to parallel park. All in all, I think it is a perfect place to take a road test (just make sure you observe all the speed limits and drive way under if you aren't sure because 1 mile over is an automatic fail). I would def check out the neighborhood around there and drive the side streets and check all the speed limits in a mile radius just to give yourself some practice. Other than that it was conveniently located, the guy testing was friendly, and they have a lot of appointments available! read more

I have the same complaint as the other two reviewers; everything is fine here except it is literally impossible to try and schedule a drive time. I just sent a letter to the owner with a screenshot of my call log that shows I called 100 (!!!) times in 45 minutes once the single line phone number was open for appointment scheduling at 2:30 today and I was never able to get through. My daughter has finished the classroom portion, which was fine, but I am writing to get a refund for the driving hours that seems we will be unable to complete. We paid $695 for classroom and extra driving hours and are really upset at the difficulty in getting through and then when we do, there are no more appointments left. I was able to send the owner an email and he phoned me and was polite and helpful, but my question to him was this; "Sir, if you paid $700 for services and couldn't get through to schedule your service after calling 100 times, wouldn't you want to jump out a window???" He did agree to issue a prorated refund and to forward her paperwork to another driving school, so I appreciate his effort to resolve the problem in that manner. UPDATE: Per his stated policy, I personally gave the owner a hand-written request for refund of our unused hours on 9/29/13. He said it would take "2-3 weeks to process". He did not respond to 3 emailed status updates and so I filed a claim with the BBB. They attempted to contact him, then sent me the following: ID#: 91273166 Business Name: All Star Driving School The Better Business Bureau has made several attempts to contact the business regarding the above referenced complaint. I took driving lessons here- the staff is friendly and the facility is alright. They do run a tight ship though, and kids fooling around/being disrespectful will not in any way be tolerated. read more

Horrible driving school! Rude, unorganized, inconsiderate. The employees are rude and patronizing. The scheduling system is horrible, there were times I sat on hold for an hour, only to spend two minutes setting up an appointment! It is ridiculous the level of disorganization in this business. There is a 2 hour window on fridays for ALL affiliates to schedule a drive time. Impossible. Non stop busy signal. You've also pre-paid for this delightful non existent service. I wish we would've looked at reviews before sending our daughter here. Looking at other sites, reviews since 2006 all say the same thing: class is good.... scheduling the driving is horrible! Sure enough, the one day you can schedule the phone lines are busy ALL DAY. And when I get hold of the owner (from calling another location and pleading to have him call us back), he tells my fiancee' "That's just the way it is. Some people like it, some people don't. Go somewhere else then!" Really? Trying to figure out if he is emotionally challenged or just an idiot.... Thinking idiot. Found another school with a very nice owner. Funny thing. All the other schools we talk to now have stories like this about All-Star (or should I say All-Talk). AVOID THIS PLACE! There are many other schools in the area. This guy should not be in business. Do your research and go somewhere you can actually get a drive time appointment. Plus the elderly gentleman at the Richardson school is grumpy and rude. He enjoys making the girls cry. My daughter did not take lessons here, only her road test. I will say, it was easy to schedule the test and the blonde woman at the front desk is extremely friendly and helpful. That said, I would (and will with my other three children) pay double not to experience the rude, horrid curly haired instructor who conducts the driving test. Fortunately, my daughter passed her test on the first try, but prior to taking it, we watched the instructor fail the two people in front of her. If you don't perfectly position your vehicle in every lane or look repeatedly at not just stop signs, but stop lights (and I mean an over the top head turn), she will mark you as bad and take off the maximum amount of points. In addition, even if you don't hit the cones or curb when parallel parking, but you aren't perfectly aligned with the curb, she will take off the maximum amount of points. At the end of the test, she doesn't give you any positive feedback, but instead only berates you about how poorly you drove. What should be a fun, rewarding experience for a first time driver is instead a gross, exaggerated critique that strips new drivers of their confidence. If I didn't know better, I would say All Star is actually in the business of purposely failing new drivers so they can make more money from unsuspecting parents who then have to pay another $100 for their teen to take the test again. Do yourself a favor and go to a different third party testing center. There are plenty of others with terrific ratings-I should have researched. read more

WORST driving school I've ever had to experience... they barely ever answer their phones, which makes trying to schedule drive times a complete nightmare. A bunch of older men run this school and instruct the classes and drive times, and I had a recent experience with a driving instructor that was the furthest thing from pleasant. Certain individuals are obviously not the best drivers, but the literal purpose of a drive time is to help people improve! The instructor, who was clearly unimpressed with my driving, proceeded to ask me if I "take medication" or anything of the sort. Clearly taken aback, I tell him that's not a respectable question to ask someone, and he attempted to justify his question by saying certain students have ADHD or certain disorders that have the potential to impair their ability to drive. He then states that he wasn't trying to imply that I take recreational drugs and that I "shouldn't be offended". So, according to his logic, because he feels that a person isn't the best driver, they automatically have ADHD or a similar disorder? Wow. The customer service, instructors, and overall presence of this driving school sucks, and based on previous reviews, their blatant lack of respect for their customers is quite clear. The fact that these people think it's ok to treat people the way they do breaks my heart, and it's disgusting on their part. Would give this place 0 stars if possible, if you're looking for a driving school, this place is NOT REMOTELY worth considering!! read more
