Today is 12/8. I already have the new mirror, I just need someone to install it. Honestly, that made no sense to me. It's a one-hour job at most, with zero prep needed since I already bought the part. I asked the body tech if the schedule was pushed that far out because the job doesn't make them much money, and he basically admitted that's the reason. What he didn't seem to understand is that a simple job like mine could've earned them another 5-star review, which brings in more paying customers and more money in the long run. Instead, I was left feeling like my business wasn't worth their time, and that's disappointing for a shop with such solid reviews.

I have very mixed feelings about GT Car Star…read more To start with the positives, I think they did quality repair work. After my car was hit on the side in an accident, it looked brand new when I got it back. They also cleaned both the interior and exterior before returning it, which was a nice touch and appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. I was never given a clear timeline for the repairs and received very little communication during the nearly two months it took to get my car back. Most updates only came after I repeatedly called and tried to reach someone, and even then the information provided was often vague. My biggest concern, however, was that when I got my car back, I quickly noticed that the emergency cash I keep in the sunglasses compartment was missing. I fully acknowledge that I should have removed valuables from the vehicle, but after the accident I was shaken up and simply wasn't thinking about it. What disappointed me most was not just the missing cash, but the lack of response afterward. I called multiple times, left messages, and even spoke with a technician who said his boss would contact me. I never received a call back. A reputable business should at least address a concern of this nature, even if there is disagreement about what happened. While I'm satisfied with the repair work itself, the lack of communication throughout the process and the complete failure to respond to my concerns afterward left me with a very negative overall experience. I'm not sure whether my experience was influenced by the fact that the repair was handled through insurance rather than being paid out of pocket, but that shouldn't affect the level of customer service a customer receives.

TLDR; great auto body work but terribly disorganized…read more Let me start this off by saying that up until my last week of dealing with GT I was super impressed. Throughout the 8 month process (2 month wait to get my car in, about 6 to fix due to extreme part delays out of their control), Salina was kind, communicative and patient. She called to give me updates regularly and readily gave updates when I called asking for them. The issues actually became apparent when my car was done. Salina called and said we just had to wait on final insurance payments before I could pick it up. After a few days I followed up with my insurance, who had no idea that anything was outstanding and had thought my car would be returned to me. The details would require me to write a novel here but essentially I spent HOURS (12+) over a week's time while my car sat repaired in their lot trying to mediate between GT and my insurance. At multiple points I went into the shop because I was told by my insurance that based on the documentation in the system, they had paid everything and my car should be given back to me. Again Salina was professional and level headed, and offered me their loaner so I wouldn't have to pay for extending my rental... yet I didn't get my car back. In one instance when I went into the shop, Kelly, the owner, and I, got into a more-heated debate... at which point I, a grown woman, decided to involve my dad. As I predicted and have experienced with other mechanics, Kelly lowered the amount of money he was asking for by hundreds of dollars pretty immediately after speaking to an older man instead of a woman in her later 20s. In the end it turns out that GT was issuing new invoices AFTER my car was done, with duplicate line items that my insurance could not approve. I'm convinced I only got my car back when I did because GT was tired of hearing from me every other hour. I was never given an apology when this issue was clearly a product of disorganization on their part and I got the feeling that they were hoping that I would be the one to get exasperated and just pay the difference to get my car back. As someone who chose this auto body shop based on my trusted regular mechanic's recommendation, in an effort to support a small business instead of going to the dealership, I am extremely disappointed and angry after this debacle. Cherry on top: my car was returned looking new and mostly clean but with a large section of tape gunk still on the windshield directly in the drivers' view that I now get to go scrape off.

Once the parts arrived they called and I dropped the car off. That same week they tell me they didn't receive all the parts which was fine for week one. By week 2 they were able to start painting the front bumper though and still hadn't gotten all the parts. Once the bumper was painted the car sat for about a week while they waited on the last part then they realized they had messed up painting the front bumper. But they were able to get another pretty quick and they got the last part by the middle the week 4. Keep in mind I had to call them to get updates most of the time. They did call me a couple time. So at the start of week 4 they said they would have the car done and ready by Friday. But come Thursday I receive a call saying they lost one of the parts (an under belly panel that isn't small) and would have to order a new one. Which did arrive until Monday of week 5. This is when I called them at about 10am asking for an update. They said they just received the part and would have the car ready. Keep in mind this is the underbelly panel in which I've removed and put back on before and it's take roughly 30 minutes. But come 6 hours later I called them for an update and they said they would be done in 30 minutes. Overall just a really frustrating experience. A lot of false hopes. And this isn't the first time it's happened to me with them. Not great at communicating. Other than that the car came out looking good. It was just a very frustrating situation.

I was reluctant to take it to a body shop, but Greg was glad to take a look at it. Over the course of 10 minutes, he made a couple of adjustments to my door latch. That's not the amazing thing. He wouldn't take payment, and even made some suggestions on what I could do next--both suggestions for DIY work I could do, and recommendations for shops if I wanted to get paint work done. If he's willing to do that for someone off the street, I can imagine the integrity he'd bring to major repairs and insurance jobs.

I also needed a sun visor installed, and Jake took care of everything at a price that couldn't be beat. The paint color on one of the doors isn't a perfect match, but Jake was upfront from the beginning that it would be difficult to match exactly. Honestly, it's only noticeable if you're really looking for it. The reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is mostly due to some of the finishing details. There was quite a bit of paint dust inside my car, some paint residue on the windshield that I had to scrub off myself, and a rubber door trim piece (which was already loose) was left inside the car instead of being reattached. Overall, though, the quality of the repairs, communication, and value for the price were excellent. I'd definitely recommend Jake to anyone looking for affordable bodywork, especially if you're willing to overlook a few minor cleanup items.
