This previous March I brought my vehicle there as I had done several times in the past for a routine oil change. A few months later, my check engine light came on, accompanied by a strange noise on startup. I brought it to a reputable, certified mechanic who showed me that the oil filter was improperly installed, probably using pliers or a wrench, causing oil to very slowly leak out, eventually causing damage to my engine from the lack of oil (there was barely a quart left, a fraction of what should have been in there). On top of the part needing to be replaced, I needed to have oil added, a new filter put on, and the bottom of the vehicle degreased. I'm lucky I brought it in when I did; any longer and the engine would've completely failed- a vehicle only seven years old in great shape was nearly totaled because someone couldn't do, literally, their one and only job. Once I got my truck back, after several days without it, I drew up a formal letter explaining the situation to Duke of Oil. It included pictures of the filter and a detailed invoice from the mechanic, who gave me back the damaged filter and broken part. This letter was hand delivered to the location where I was told it would be forwarded to a higher up manager. It has been one week since that letter was supposedly delivered, and I have heard nothing from Duke of Oil. I'm sure their initial rebuttal will be that several months passed between the oil change and the damage to my engine, making them not liable. To that, I'll refer them to the part where I mentioned it was a SLOW oil leak. Did I mention less than 2,000 miles were put on the vehicle in that time? I'm also sure that (if that letter was even actually forwarded) Duke of Oil thinks I'm either full of it and looking to get them to foot the bill for unrelated repairs or that I'm just a temporary problem customer who will cool off and go away. Neither is true. I've had several positive experiences at Duke of Oil since living in the area, and before this incident, would've continued to go to them. Unfortunately, due to their lack of taking responsibility, I will be filing the appropriate legal proceedings so that I can attempt to get reimbursed for the money I lost paying for their mistake and incompetence. I will also be very diligent in warning others in the community about Duke of Oil Mount Prospect through every possible channel I can think of.

I said yes, I wanted the oil changed because it had been 6 months since the last oil change. He then showed me a sample of my oil and said, "It looks like it was changed yesterday, are you sure you want to get it changed?'. I said to change it. I am sold. They are good guys. I will be back for my next oil change!

I normally go to other places when I don't have the tools, time, and or knowledge needed for some things. I will go over my first experience with this shop and why my wife and I go here when needed. I had an issue with an oil pressure sensor leak. I could see it, I know how much the part costs, and I know what needs to be done. However to actually access it would be a pain. I called them up and asked them how much it would cost to replace it. I believe I spoke to Steve and he mentioned generally about 200 or so. Now, that would be the case for many cars, but not this one. So I asked Steve if he could check book time. Book time is basically the amount of time, in a perfect scenario, it should take a mechanic to complete a task. They can then give you an estimate with respect to their labor rates. For example if hourly labor is 150 and book time for say changing a starter is 1h, they can say the labor cost will be $150. Steve looks at book time and is surprised because it's higher than normal about 2x more time and was wondering why. I mentioned, that to access it you have to essentially remove a few other components. He mentions, well, you can bring it in and we can take a look. I was hoping maybe they'd have easier ways of accessing it and mentioned I'm going to think on it a bit. I went under the car again and decided, "Nope. Too much work." I called back and setup an appointment. I drop off the car. I'm not happy with where the car manufacturers' engineers decided to shroud the oil pressure switch and essentially up the replacement cost but it is what it is. Anyway, I get a call back and the price I have to pay is essentially 1h and the part. I head on over and am very surprised. I forget the name of the mechanic (think it started with an M) but I asked them, "I'm surprised that you got it done so fast ... how?!" They mentioned they'd dealt with those cars before as they're common so they rigged up/made a special tool to reach in and do it. That was when I decided TrueTech is a stand up place. They could have charged book time and believe me you, I would've paid it. However they had a seasoned mechanic who knocked it out and passed those savings in their time, as savings in my pocket back to me. This isn't just a good honest mechanic being a good honest mechanic but also the higher ups, the managers and or owners. It seems that is their standard too as they've always been pretty booked which says they're more about doing good work in good time and if they make good headway, you may luck out. You may not, their call :-) but again, book time is perfect world setup, not rusted through, seized on, broken off ... stuff. It is still a good way to understand what you may be looking at aside from the actual part. Since then if and when needed, we go to TrueTech and we've always been happy. P.S. Once they have you in their system (i.e. e-mail / phone), their estimates app, progress, etc and everything is great. Especially if you have a smart phone. I saw where someone mentioned they had difficulty with getting a response and I haven't ran into that. If anyone does run into that, call them and just verify they have the right info.

Despite an estimate ($1400) that was $300+ less than 4 other places, the results look very good... you cant see where the dent was in the door and over the rear wheel well. I was concerned with a repair vs. replacement of the door... in regards to structural integrity... but it seems to be uncompromised. And it was completed in 4 days. "Kang"(?) Also threw in some complimentary scratch removal from the front bumper. Highly recommended!!!

It took them 11 days to paint the scratch near the edge with what looks like nail polish that a 10 year old did and they didn't even touch my door. You heard right, THEY DIDNT EVEN TOUCH THE DOOR DENT!!! Since it took 11 days, they offered to paint my lining around my windows matte black because I wasn't fond of the silver and they got spray all over my windows, my car doors and the lines are uneven. I asked for my money back and was told yes yes yes, but I could never get ahold of them after that. I will never take my car here and I will personally give you my phone number to come and see my car. It looks awful and I still have 3-4 years with this car! So upset with this business.

But on my sisters recommendation, she told me to check to go here and see how they would fix the car. Now I been going here ever since. Just got my breaks and rotors done here and it was quick and efficient. He answered my questions promptly and were very friendly and professional about it. I recommend these guys big time. I have gone to them several times on a recommendation and they have done an excellent job each time. They are very honest people and I would recommend them to anyone. Being a woman, I don't feel like they take advantage of me because of it. The first time I was here they did my breaks and rotors and recently my front bearings and tire rods. I'll never go anywhere else!!
