Our experience was with their project manager Rich Speakman. If you are assigned Rich as your project manager immediately request someone else. Rich has no knowledge of construction and takes all of his subcontractors at their word without verifying the work was done for himself.
We hired Korrect to finish out a bathroom remodel that went wrong. We simply needed them to finish sealing some areas, properly align some cabinets, install carpet, etc. Rich talked us into demolishing the entire bathroom by going on and on about this amazing designer he knows who would remodel our entire bathroom with a design we would love.
This was going to be a $300,000+ bathroom remodel and we put down a $130,000 deposit with Korrect to get the work started. They got started on the demo of the existing bathroom right away. It was after this that we learned that the amazing designer, who is Rich's daughter, is actually a junior designer at a design firm here in Dallas. She's never done any design work herself and yet Rich, whose sole job is to select and use reputable subcontractors, decided this was appropriate for our remodel. Additionally, we came to learn that she was under a binding non-compete with her existing employer and was expressly prohibited from engaging in outside work.
We have learned that Rich's daughter has since been fired from her junior designer position for violation of her non-compete.
Rich's daughter never produced any actual designs for us, despite the fact that Korrect is demanding we pay for the designer fee. We learned through emails with one of Korrect's owners, Kullen, that they had actually already paid Rich's daughter in full and Kullen specficially wrote that, "he cannot lose money" on this and expects us to pay that cost despite the clear failing on the part of Korrect to vet their subcontractors.
Demolishing the existing bathroom was supposed to take 4-6 days, however after three MONTHS this was still not finished (to say nothing of getting started on the ACTUAL work). We finally met with Kullen and told him that we would pay for the work that was done ($17,000) but that we would not pay for the design fee because no design work was actually provided to us and that we would like the rest of our deposit back.
Kullen refused our offer in emails where he, again, stated that Korrect cannot lose money on this job and is now holding our deposit hostage claiming he is entitled to keep it despite not having done any actual work to earn it.
Again, we were more than willing to pay for the work that Korrect did actually do (although not complete) to ensure their subcontractors were paid. We were simply requesting the rest of our deposit back for the work that was NEVER done. Kullen is as dishonest as they come in our opinion. Regardless of his words, his actions show us that he does not care about the ethics of business.
We also had hired Korrect previously for other jobs around our property and their work was mediocre at best. One example, supposedly specialize in roof replacements and so they replaced our roof. The next major rainstorm showed us the quality of their work as our brand new roof was leaking in several places. That's just one example, however there are several more which will be brought to light in our lawsuit.
Keep in mind that the only reason we're going to court with Korrect is because Kullen is trying to keep money that does not belong to him. He is a thief and, despite us spending two hours in our kitchen with him trying to work something out, has decided that we should bear the cost of his company's failings.
So, if you do hire Korrect just know that they will talk a big game about doing the right thing, providing great quality work, and wanting to make sure their customers are satisfied... however, it's just that... all talk. The second there is a problem Kullen and Rich will do everything they can to keep your money regardless of whether or not they delivered on the work they promised.
