I was told that the leak was through the top of the chimney and a metal cover was recommended. I agreed and had it installed near the end of May or early June. It looked good and seemed to stop the leak. I called and complemented Phil. After a long dry summer, the next heavy rain was September 2nd and at 6:13am the roof was hit by lightning. The house shook and things fell off shelves. It was a bit strange because we heard no other thunder and saw no other lightning. But it definitely picked this roof to hit. Possibly from some distance. This roof was never hit by lightning in the 22 years since the roof installation. I called Phil and told him what happened. He admitted lightening sometimes hits the metal chimney covers and recommended lightning rods be installed. I told him I would give it some thought. On September 5th, I send him an email and told him I told I thought it was too dangerous to keep the cover since I was never hit by lightning before. I also told him I was against putting lightning rods on the roof for the same reason. I told him I would pay for the removal. I emailed him again on September 10th and called and left a message on September 15th to ask if he could send someone to remove the cover and I would pay for the removal. I never got a reply from email or phone.

From the beginning, he had us alert so he could be present when the Allstate adjuster suddenly came early to do their inspection. We have now been through two rounds of negotiations with insurance and Cliff informed us each step how to increase the odds of getting a fair deal : 1) how they would offer only 50% initially what should be paid, and 2) he then responded to the insurance by listing items they left off, and reasons the should be paid for. Little by little insurance has increased what they paid us. Still negotiating.

This is the first part of two reviews. I'll do the follow-up roof after Stevan's crews come to my…read morehouse and correct their mistakes. On a five star review I would rate this company as a 2. I like the fact Stevan himself came to my family's home and did a good job estimating the project at no coast. We worked together and met as a price. He drew up the contract, I signed it and gave him half of the money up front. The project date was set and I felt optimistic hiring them to do the work. The morning the work was to begin, I waited for Steven's crews. At 9:00 AM an eighteen wheel pulls up to my house and unloads the material in my yard. This was on a Thursday. At 10:30AM, Stevan's crews had not arrived. I called the project Forman and he was very apologetic saying they had cancel the project for Thursday the day before due to the possibility of bad weather. He apologized due to not contacting me regarding them canceling. I was furious. I had canceled work for that day to be there for the roof replacement. I called Stevan and requested we cancel the contract. At this point I didn't feel optimistic about this contractor. I let Stevan talk me into moving forward on the contract and we set a date for the following Monday with the promise that he would personally supervise the project. I told him I was flying to New York and I wouldn't be there on Monday. He assured me he would take pictures and I would be happy with their work. Monday---the day of the project. The workers showed up and went to work. The Forman called me and I tried talking to him but there was a huge language barrier. Stevan sent pictures to my wife and she forwarded them to me. They did a good job but not a professional job. Their quality control is terrible. I hired them to replace the roof, some decking, a lot of the facia boards, drip edge, a section of soffit, and two new boots and turbine, as well as flashing where needed. They finished the job in one day. The roof is now new. They replaced the turbine-new. They did not install the two new boots. The flashing they installed looks terrible and there's areas that need flashing that got over looked. The facia boards will have to be replaced do to poor installation and poor quality control. There's areas of the drip edge that will need adjusting due to being flared upward. This project consist of a hip roof and two sections of flat roof. The flat roof was to get a commercial grade rolled roof. The hip roof was to get shingles. My wife and I spoke with Stevan regarding the color-match of the two. Stevan assures is the colors would match. Well, they don't. Not even close. I am still in New York and have yet to see the roof in person. I spoke with Stevan regarding the above issues and he became offensive saying he felt as if I were "attacking him", and he mentioned they had done extra work and didn't request payment for the extras. Completely unprofessional. I explained to him that I have a right to expect a job well done, and making excuses is not professional. I also reminded him the terms of the contract in respect to additional work: he would contact me and we would come to an agreement. Stevan has assured me that he will have someone at my house next Monday to fix the above problems. He did however say the electrical riser will not get the promised (in the contract) boot due to his worker not feeling safe with the installation, despite the pre-contract talk with Stevan assuring me there would not be any problem with the installation. He even went as far as to explain how the install it. Again, I will do a second part to this review after the corrections have been made. I may do an additional review after seeing the job in person. Hopefully it'll be a better review.
