I had a week to find care for my father, which the other companies I interviewed either needed minimum 2 weeks notice or we just didn't jive. But with ascent home care, they were ready, willing and accommodating! The process with my dad was overwhelming and on his discharge date I couldn't be there. Ascent took the reigns and kept me updated with everything from the time they arrived at rehab to when they were on their way to my dads to when they arrived home. Hey made the process easy. The care workers were amazing and patient with my father and kept me updated with everything going on wth him and supplies he needed. I NEVER had to worry about my dad's care or his safety.I highly recommend this company to anyone who is searching for care for a family member or loved one

The Dr's gave him 7-10 days to live. He lived for more than 2 months with excellent care from Ascent. Our caretaker, Ariel, was an amazing angel that gave my dear Father-In-Law respect, comfort and friendship. He bathed and fed him and gave him massages. He fit right in with our family. He made a very sad time in our lives bearable and actually enjoyable at times. The owners of Ascent have huge hearts too and are hands on. I highly recommend them for home health care.

I spoke to Erica, the community liaison, who was very helpful & got someone to come out within two short days. The nurse Ursula was absolutely wonderful. She was incredibly patient & knowledgeable. She then helped us find another affordable option through our township, which was a godsend. We wouldn't have discovered this if it weren't for Ursula genuinely wanting to help us. We couldn't be more grateful. Highly recommend them. Very caring and supportive.

Awful. I am simply going to state facts here, and you can judge for yourself what you think of…read moreBright Star. First of all, they were suggested to me by the Kenneth Young center, which I find odd in retrospect. I was told at the start that every attempt would be made to achieve consistency. But suspiciously, I was discouraged by Ursula the nurse to try to meet any of the caregivers to give them a tour of where things are in my 88 year old mother's house. Then I found out why: Over a period of about 2 and a half months my mom has had 15 or more different people coming to her house. Her schedule is by no means demanding: Just 4 hours 6 nights a week and 5 hours two days a week. 2 or 3 people should easily be able to cover such a schedule. I never realized the vast amount of different people because all the invoices come 2 weeks after the date. One woman seemed to come regularly and my mom liked her and the caregiver knew what to do, but often it was some new person filling in a shift who a) my mom didn't know and b) didn't know what to do or how to do it. About four times no one showed up at all, and once a woman left early because she had to drive to another town to care for someone. Because of the inconsistency of staff, the quality of work really suffered. I think they tried and it certainly wasn't the caregiver's fault, but they just had no idea what was going on. More importantly, it really soured my mom on having caregivers come at all because it was like being invaded by an unhelpful stranger all the time. I complained about this to the manager and she told me they were understaffed and having a major crisis. Previous to that, I had complained about the inconsistency to Ursula and she told me the caregivers just picked up whatever shift they wanted and the managers had no control over it! This is not the impression I was given when we signed up. I feel I was lied to more or less. When I finally realized how many people were coming, I complained once again and was told in a vague way they would talk about it at their next meeting. All in all I complained to three of the upper management and they did absolutely nothing. In fact, there was a lot of passing of the buck. Home Instead is the company I switched to and they took the time to design a schedule with 3 caregivers for my mom. I'm sorry this business is having problems; perhaps the quality will improve when they lose enough clients. I called to cancel service and told them I'd be quitting in 2 days, the last day being Wednesday. Guess what, *no one* came to my mother's house that last day. I had to go help my mom on what should have been a day off.

We had gone through a lot with my dad before he passed away and so we knew what we wanted and what we didn't. Unfortunately, the informal network we used for my dad didn't have women caregivers so we were back to to square one. After doing a lot of research with the local senior center and online we called For Papa's Sake, which is based out of the town next to where my mom lives. From the very first phone call I suspected we had gotten lucky. After a couple of calls and some group discussion between me, my mom and a For Papa's Sake senior person we decided we'd try them out. And am I glad we did. They listened to my mom's and my requests, likes, dislikes, deal-breakers etc. and they never batted an eye. They did say it might take a bit longer than usual (given our needs) to find the right care giver, but they called back in less than 5 days and we had a care giver within 10 days to 2 weeks of that 1st main discussion. That care giver has worked out so well. It has really improved our lives and I can go days without worrying about my mom...what a relief. That's what For Papa's Sake provides: relief! If you are looking for an alternative to a nursing home or aged care facility or whatever you want to call it, For Papa's Sake really cares and I would encourage you to give them a call. They have worked out great for us and I would not recommend them for something so important if they weren't doing a great job.

But this Facility apparently was done with me. I understand going down to one day a week sessions, but what I couldn't understand was, why the deceit or run around. On July 05 at the end of my session I asked the receptionist if we could schedule my next round of appointments. She informed me my therapist wanted to discuss with me going down to one day (he was unexpectedly off after the Holiday) on Monday so she wanted to wait until I talked to him. So after my session on Monday I went up to her desk again and asked to schedule more appointments; this day she told me she couldn't schedule (apparently from Fri. - Mon. her story changed), anymore appointments as I needed to get approved first. I asked her. Approved from Who ? My therapist had mentioned the potential of Medicare being an issue. I informed I have TWO insurances and Medicare is Not my Primary, (in which they have this info.) they basically have nothing to do with this. So she says, hold on let me go check and she walked into the back, returning to tell me to call in 3-4 days to see if an approval came in. Again I asked approval from Who? (I know my 2 insurances were still covering this) She proceeded to say I had to wait for the Manager and due to the Holiday (4th of July), she is running behind so give her a few days. Really, this is how they operate? Knowing my insurance was still paying (& I even called them both to verify what I already knew), I called to schedule more appointments the next day. This particular women scheduled Two sessions for me and informed she was allowed to only schedule Two. (This was the very next day After the in house receptionist didn't want to be bothered scheduling the two allowed.) Then I was assured someone would call me to make the next set of appointments as soon as I was approved for more. She couldn't tell me either WHO exactly this so called approval was coming from. So I waited and waited, no one called. Plus the 2 I did get scheduled were 2.5 to 3 weeks away. Why does an established patient need to wait almost 3 weeks to get more sessions started? As I never heard back from anyone, I went elsewhere. But on July 22nd I received a phone call from Northwestern asking if I could take an appointment time available That day due to a cancelation. I informed I never had received a call to schedule more sessions and she informs me that they Are Indeed scheduled. I asked How? She then tells me her co-worker scheduled them for me. I asked, without talking to me? She sounded embarrassed and could only say her co worker must have thought she'd discuss it with me when I came in. I'd like to know if I couldn't do any of those days was I going to have to wait another 3 weeks to get in? So apparently it's the management who decides who's worthy of their time, they can push aside existing patients to allow room for New patients, so beware. Actually there is no really concern or care for their patients. I tried to send a letter to upper management but was only able to find a Patient Relations department for the hospital. I explained to her I did not want to discuss this with the local Bloomingdale office as they were the cause. She said she'd pass my name onto the next in charge. I never heard back, I sent a note telling the Patient Relations person that I didn't want to leave a bad review because I didn't want it to reflect poorly on my two therapists. Still I never heard from anyone. Now looking back at that environment I can truly say if you have a major issue this is not the best place to go. It's a large facility set up badly, i wanted to discuss the safety issues but no one wanted to call me and there were the bike that was positioned too close to it. Another time I had to use the Pullies directly after someone stopped using them (only one set !) Same thing with the armbike: None of the equipment is wiped off after use. No disenfective wipes are available in the therapy rooms for the Patient to wipe down. I saw a lot of Elderly people here, covid may not be raging but germs always exist. This facility has no weight bars for use and about daily I was given a Cane to use that surely was never wiped off from me or the last person who used it before me. My therapist attached a weight to the cane in which the velcro on the ends was worn down and it dangled over my face. When is it just going to fall apart onto someone's face? That's not all about the safety issues I spotted there but I'll just say I looked down when I walked I'm obviously highly disappointed in Northwestern but I think now they did me a favor because I'm in a much better place.
