We took way longer than expected to say our final farewells in Sandy's lovely chapel and Sandy was so patient with us.

We have actually used this mortuary in the past and had a much better experience when working with a different funeral director. Unfortunately, this time was completely different, and the experience we had with Monica was extremely upsetting. Monica lacked empathy and did not take the time to guide us through the process or explain our options. We specifically requested a viewing for my mother-in-law, and later were told she was not viewable. This was devastating, especially because we were then told it was due to us not requesting embalming, something that was never clearly explained to us. As a grieving family, we didn't even know what questions we were supposed to ask, and we relied on the funeral director to walk us through those decisions. Communication was also very difficult. Monica was rude on the phone and did not show understanding or compassion. When we expressed concerns or asked about alternative options, nothing was offered and there was no apology. When we ultimately decided to switch to another mortuary, the only response we received was that we would still have to pay. The lack of care, guidance, and empathy added unnecessary stress and sadness to an already painful time. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Tempe Mortuary to families looking for compassionate and supportive care.

While we already had a mortuary in mind, we had no idea which cemetery to use. I set up a bunch of meetings and planned visits within the days right after my mother had passed, and I was quite disappointed with most of those we visited. I experienced poor customer service, a cemetery that didn't see very well kept, an inconvenient place to visit or some other issue. When I came across Paradise Memorial Gardens, I was extremely pleased with how well they communicated, their excellent customer service, and the layout and ease of visiting the cemetery. I had reached out to Dan and quickly heard back from him. I had told him what exactly we were looking for in terms of a location, stone, and service, and he certainly rose to the occasion to ensure that we had the date and time of the funeral and later an unveiling. He explained the prices and answered many questions that my family members and I had asked. Dan was responsive whether we were connecting right before the funeral or in the months that followed when planning an unveiling. For such a stressful time, I was pleased to have someone we made a connection with to reach out to. The actual Paradise Memorial Gardens cemetery is laid out nicely. Instead of other cemeteries where stones are all sticking up out of the ground, many of the stones are flat on the ground where they blend in with the nature. My mother's stone is near a big tree, which provides some shade when I visit her in hotter months. There is a small lake where swans and Canadian geese like to roam. For an interesting story, ask the staff about the swans. There is also a heated and air-conditioned mausoleum onsite which I had been in only once when a friend passed away a number of years ago. There is plenty of parking on the side of the single street that circles the site. There are two entrances, one off of Shea Blvd and the other off 92nd Street. While I didn't use them, I heard good things about the Messinger Mortuaries, which is directly tied to the Paradise Memorial Gardens. I certainly encourage anyone looking for a cemetery (and possibly a mortuary) to check them out.

Yesterday, I called again to Candy to help us plan another interment for the untimely death of my brother-in-law, Jeffrey Jarko. Unfortunately, the memorial bench inscription was significantly delayed and took more than two years to complete despite repeated follow-ups and several missed communication commitments. Throughout that time, we received various explanations for the delay, and communication was inconsistent, which made an already emotional situation much more stressful for our family. After formal escalation and corporate involvement, the matter was finally addressed. Management ultimately worked to complete the engraving, and once an error in the inscription was identified, it was corrected promptly. I personally visited the cemetery to verify that the engraving now reflects the correct information and appears properly completed. While I am relieved that the situation has finally been resolved, I hope future families experience clearer communication and timelier follow-through from the beginning. I appreciate that the issue was ultimately corrected, but the process leading up to that resolution was much longer and more difficult than it should have been.

Side note. 900 dollars to feed 25, $36 a person. Wow. Boo! Go elsewhere. Update 7/11/2024. My dad's services went very well, I believe, entirely due to Lupita Guzman and her empathy and attention to detail. She was a shining beacon during this whole ordeal. The decorations, and areas left for our personal touches, were perfect. She provided all that was needed and assured the precession went without a hitch. The catering was professionally executed. The service cards were beautiful and the front entry well appointed. Again, the service itself, because of Lupita, outstanding!!! She gets 5 stars, the venue and food 4 stars, but I stand by my review at the beginning. I hope my experience is used as a tool for Lakeshore so that others are met only with compassion and assistance when it comes their time to make final arrangements for loved ones.

They were patient, understanding, and incredibly respectful throughout the entire process. Every conversation felt personal, never rushed, and they made sure we understood each step. Even without walking through their doors, we felt supported and cared for. What meant the most was how consistent their compassion was -- years apart, for both of my parents. They treated our family with genuine warmth and professionalism, and it brought real comfort during two of the hardest moments of our lives. I'm deeply grateful for the care they provided, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for a funeral home that truly understands how to support families with dignity and kindness.
