After my grandfather passed, we chose Bueler's out of loyalty. Initially, the director was kind, but his demeanor changed noticeably when I explained we would only be arranging a basic cremation and not a full service. Communication became poor, we received no updates and had to repeatedly follow up just to find out when my grandfather's cremains would be ready. Each interaction felt cold and impersonal. While another staff member was more helpful, the overall tone lacked the compassion you would expect during such a difficult time. When we picked up my grandfather's cremains, we were met at the entrance and not even brought into a private area to be given the urn. His cremains were placed in a plastic urn inside a paper gift bag. While we understood that we selected a basic option and would have a plastic urn, the handling and presentation felt careless. I was not prepared for the weight and nearly dropped the urn, which was very upsetting at such a sensitive moment. Every family, regardless of the services they choose, deserves kindness, respect, and clear communication. We were honoring my grandfather's wishes, and it should not have resulted in feeling dismissed or less valued. Not only are you mourning the loss and grieving, but then you've got the added stress and concern with making sure all of the logistics are taken care of. Our family is incredibly grateful for Frank taking that burden off of our shoulders and allowing us to be with family, celebrate our loved one, while he guided us comfortably through the process of planning a funeral and burial. Frank is a class act, and in hindsight, the funeral service and burial were beautiful and seamless--and I can't help but think he played a huge role in that. I mention price only because often times these things are unexpected, so for what it's worth, the pricing was significantly less than the handful of others we were advised to take a look at. From the moment we met with Frank, however, price was really out the window for us as it became very clear that he was committed to not only providing our loved one with a service and burial to be proud of, but to making sure that the family was taken care of and we were able to say goodbye in a fashion fitting of a last goodbye. We have a big family. HUGE. And even though I know Frank isn't chomping at the bit to receive phone calls--we will absolutely be encouraging folks to give him a call when the time arises. I cannot speak highly enough for what he did for our family.

In several ways, Angel's gets a 4 or a 5. Their prices are much less expensive than the large…read moremortuaries, even less than half of our local mortuary. My Mom's death caught us by surprise and a family member recommended Angel's. I would use Angel's again for the cremation. They didn't try to sell me on anything, and because of that, I was so touched that they made no attempt to take advantage of me in a time of sadness and vulnerability, so to show my support, I wanted to give them as much of the related-details business as possible, even though they were long distance from my home. The urn is from Angel's, and a soft, exquisite set of blank memorial cards that includes guest book and thank you cards was purchased from them as well. Everything was fine until they printed the cards, and there were a good number of deficiencies. For the printed memorial cards, they get 1 or 2 stars maximum. If I were to really go into detail, picky point by picky point, it would be lengthy, so I will limit my dissatisfaction to a few highlights, starting with Angel's reaction about errors that were beyond question, such as an entire line missing on the inner-left top on 50 of the 100 cards. Their response was that it was unfortunate but there was nothing they could do about it! When I held them to account, I was further told that I was the only person who had ever complained. Initially, before the cards were ever printed, I "complained" about Angel's name and address being on the bottom of the back page of the proof. They said that was normal and that no one else had ever complained about it. When they sent a revised proof, their name and address was still there, so I explicitly said that if they insisted on it being there, the lettering needed to be very tiny. On the finished, printed card, they had neither removed it nor decreased the font size as i requested. It is an eyesore and needlessly interferes with the back of the card. It is visually offensive. The quality of the ink was also low saturation. It doesn't even look to be medium, probably to save on ink. Much of the spacing on the card was poor, both top and bottom and in-between. This was quite simply the poorest important print job I have ever seen (so you see, I talk in superlatives, too). And, of course, according to them, I will have been the only person to express this sentiment in all of their years of business; translation: the problem was me. I could be very specific about the memorial cards in other ways. By my definition and expectations, the printed cards were not only a disappointment, they were a train wreck. However, everything else about dealing with Angel's was good, better than good, and except for the memorial cards (that I recommend be printed elsewhere, if you are visually exacting about spacing and details, ink density, etc., as I am, without apology btw), Angel's was an awesome place that showed compassion and dependability. Memorial cards are a comparatively small thing, especially when taking into account the amount I saved up front on the cremation. I am already meeting with the local newspaper and will have new memorial cards printed professionally by them, and they WILL be beautifully done, because nothing less will be acceptable. I happen to have a lot of time to get this done because my Mom died when the coronavirus was ramping up, so we had to postpone everything. People don't usually have time to be picky and must hope for/assume a satisfactory initial outcome, so choose carefully. In the past, I have tended toward deleting critical reviews later, and may do so here as well. I mean, how important IS a memorial card, the way it turns out? Right now, it seems extraordinarily important to me, maybe because we never got to have a gathering to officially say goodbye. Updatr: it is three days later and my saw the cards. we are making memorial packets to send out to family members. he agreed that the cards are in poor taste generally, and the advertising on the back-bottom, espeically since we used the back bottom for Mom, is tasteless, and we cannot use these cards, will have new, tasteful ones printed to send with the packets. my son is considerably easier to please than i am. i could include a picture of the card, and their advertising, and how terrible it looks, which was only one of the problems with the cards, but i won't do because of the situation.

We were charged an additional $60, which we were willing to pay because of how important these prints were to us. Unfortunately, when we received them, one fingerprint was missing and none of the prints were labeled to identify which finger they came from. When I called for clarification, I was told that they simply take prints from each finger to see which one turns out best. This process should have been clearly explained beforehand. Had we known the fingerprints would not be labeled--or that we might not receive all ten--we would have requested otherwise. Because my mom has already been cremated, this cannot be corrected. Our family is now left not knowing which fingerprint belongs to which finger, taking away an important part of the meaning behind the tattoo. For something so personal and permanent, families deserve clear communication and careful attention to detail.

When my mom unexpectedly died on 12/23/24-I found myself doing the unthinkable on Christmas Eve: researching and Yelp'ing all the best mortuaries and cremation centers in the Phoenix metropolitan area. What a surreal and morbid experience! But I had no choice. To my frustration ontop of my grief, many of the business were short staffed because of the holidays, and either didn't respond until a week later or could not answer my question about whether we could integrate some Buddhist rituals and chants into the standard "witnessed cremation" process. But Meldrum's was the first to get back to us despite the holidays. And they were surprisingly flexible when we ask if we could do a direct witnessed cremation without any memorial ceremony, and then take the ashes overseas for entombment. It turned out to be alot more complicated than expected--lots of notarized paperwork and clearances required from the Taiwan embassy--and the deadlines were really tight. But Meldrum's not only helped us with a cost-effective direct cremation, but also continued to work with us for free months later when the required paperwork for transporting ashes to Taiwan hit a lot of snags. So although this 5-star review is a year late, we felt strongly that Meldrum's Mortuary deserves a huge public thanks for everything they did to help us.
