Since it was fall, the specialty items were pumpkins and ghosts. But you could also make a variety of other options. The professionals were very kind and explained the entire experience. They do most of the hard work. And you kind of pick the colors and get to assist to ensure your item turns out how you'd like it. The employees were kind. You can get wine there and socialize while others are completing their items. You do have to go back a few days later to get the items so they can stay in the kiln as needed. By the early 1960s the building, in near total disrepair, was nearly torn down to make a parking lot. Fortunately the historic store was saved before demolition began and restored by Robert Hunker. I opted to make a flower, while my daughter planned to create a flower-shaped ring holder as a surprise gift for her sister, who loves rings. Those were the options given to us by the instructor. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the long wait--20 days--for our pieces to arrive, especially since we paid $25 for shipping. I had to email the owner to remind her to send them out. She was apologetic, and the pieces eventually arrived. However, to our dismay, my daughter's piece turned out to be just a flower, a beautiful flower, but not the ring holder she asked to make with the guidance of her instructor. The instructor was with her every step and guided her through the entire process, but seemed to forget the goal of making it into a ring holder which was an option given to us. I reached out to the owner to explain the situation, but there was no acknowledgment of the mistake or any indication of how it might be corrected. Overall, we were left disappointed.

Street parking is plentiful in the area. From older books to sets of glassware (that were stunning but I had no particular place for them at this point) to a little bit of everything in between. You can tell the owner put a lot of love and thought into the curation. The owner's mom was manning the desk when I was there and she was lovely. After the initial heartfelt hello I was left to browse in peace which is always my preference. I'm always here for a conversation but it's always easier to have at the end of my browsing whether I've bought anything in particular or not. Given the nature of the business I would assume there's quite a bit of turnover in the stock and I'm curious to come back and see what's new-to-me.

I touched a drum and considered purchasing it. Unfortunately, the staff member got quite hysterical and said to never touch the "sacred drum." The Sacred Geometry classes and art classes were truly enjoyable and I did make multiple purchases from Bear Soul Stuio & Rock Shop. Some of the ladies working there don't seem to be interested in high quality customer service and their lack of engagement is disturbing. I like Lakewood and that neighborhood. Supporting local businesses is something that I consider a high priority. Their lack of focus and interest in superior customer service has made me decide to take my business elsewhere. As a former business owner, I just can't see this business being around in the next five years. My advice to the new management is to think of yourself as a customer. Would you appreciate someone interrupting a presentation that you paid to attend? Do you think it's wise to leave a door wide open and let rodents into a building? Do Better!

By day, the conservatory is vibrant with paper printing and academic program. By night, there was Dress to Impress Fundraiser. I arrived here by night but also want to come back during the day to see the venue's full potential. SPACE: The space is a very simple warehouse-esque location. The space has multiple rooms, storage (presumably for paper), and equipment. During our visit it fully transformed into a wrap around runway and event space with gallery pockets. It was perfectly cozy and engaging. Few parking spots are available, the remainder is street parking in a residential area. EVENT: Dress to Impress event was one of the most creative fashion shows in the city. I've seen a lot of fashion shows. This was one of the better expressions of wearable art. Almost all garments were made out of paper, some from phone books! The show was refreshingly inclusive and celebrated all people. It was beautiful. The event also featured silent auction with event tickets, wearables, and art. It was a lovely occasion with a DJ, small bites, wand paper fashion. The event was good value with various tiers for different guests. It was certainly better priced than some other local fundraisers. SERVICE: I interacted with a few staff members prior to the event and at the event. All were so sweet and genuinely welcoming. The hospitality was just top notch. I felt so very welcome! I would highly recommend attending the next Dress to Impress event to any fashionistas. I can't speak for the classes just know that they offer paper making, printing, book binding, marbling, and more. I plan to keep my eyes on their schedule and attend a workshop next time.

I have visited years ago to view their papermaking process with pulp and plants from various mediums, but when I recently visited, the gallery was adorned with paper exhibits and lights. I encourage those interested in paperworking or anyone looking for inspiration to visit!
