What can I say other than, wow. From the wonderful welcome at the front door with dueling propane heater flumes to the patient and kind front staff as you walk in, it's immersive to say the very least. This isn't just a "thing to do" it's a genuine experience. I came with my daughter (7 - her first time) and it was fabulous. From the welcoming staff at the front desk to the 2 forge specialists (Dominic and Lindy) that spent their time, patience and experience with my daughter, to the dinner we had next door afterward at M Italian (I understand not affiliated but it was a collective evening for us), it was perfect. My daughter was at first a bit reserved but quickly empowered through the confidence building of Dominic and Lindy leading her through the process, encouraging and guiding her to what will always be a great night for her. She truly enjoyed everything about it and talked about it all throughout dinner. I cannot fully express the absolute joy I felt in seeing her smile and interest. I took many photos and videos all of which we've still been talking about and reliving together. The atmosphere is fun, exciting and welcoming. The creative opportunity to see your daughter (or yourself) create something from basically simplistic foundational elements is quite invigorating and fun! I cannot more highly recommend everyone try this at least once. For us, this will now be a regular excursion and Daddy/Daughter date. I look forward to bringing her again in the very near future. Thank you Glass Asylum, we will be coming back again and again!

The best place to have a girls's night or to get colleagues together. This beautiful little shop is stunning with gorgeous pieces of art showcased throughout the whole workshop. I picked out a pint glass for my husband and he picked out a wine glass for me. The two workers helping us that day were patient and kept us very informed throughout the whole process. I can't wait to bring some friends along and see what other fun items I can create!

Went with a group of twelve, and all went well over two hours. The instructors were friendly and patient. Two glass blowers took us by turn. We chose what we wanted to make from a lot of items. The glassblower showed us how to work the pole, get the colors, use the tools. They blew the puff of air into the hot glass, and worked the fire. The hot glass item takes a couple of days to cool down and be ready for pickup. Your item can be mailed for a fee. The introduction experience was really neat and not intimidating. A multi-day class is offered to learn the fine art. The staff welcomes a call or drop in to get the details. Everything you need to know is on the website, including some prices. Park at a meter, in the big free lot across the river or have someone drop you off. M Italian is next door.

After watching Blown Away on Netflix, I was excited to check out the Glass Asylum for my first glass-blowing experience. They have a variety of workshops you can sign up for to make bowls, drinking glasses, or trinkets like a decorative pumpkin, snowman, or ring holder. In addition, they have monthly specials, where they provide a discount on different pieces. We decided to take advantage of the October special, where we made 2 pumpkins that were $55 each. The people we worked with were so kind, and told us about each step of the glass-blowing process and how they got into glass blowing in the first place. It was so cool seeing how the glowing orb of molten glass was shaped and colored into pumpkin themes of our choices (my friend and I chose rival themes since I went with UMICH colors because GO BLUE! and he chose OSU ones because GO BUCKS!). Our pumpkins were ready for pickup 3 days later, and we were thrilled with the results. The only caveat is that while I enjoyed helping out with the process, I was a bit disappointed with how little we were able to do and how rushed it felt. While advertised as a glass blowing class, we only held the rod a few times while the staff did nearly everything else (and we were done in ~20 minutes). I understand that glass blowing is a difficult and dangerous skill, but I have heard of other glass blowing places where people were more involved with the process. However, I am satisfied with our pieces and appreciate the experience.

This was such a cool experience! My husband booked us for some glassblowing here for our anniversary. When you get here, they do offer you free beer or wine which is a really nice welcoming touch. You can pick what you want to make, and depending on the project, they are priced differently. You can also pick up to 3 colors for your piece and the basic pattern (swirled vs. spotted). My husband opted to make a beer glass, I chose a stemless wine glass. We were taken care of by 2 glassblowers, and they made the experience very interactive and safe! They were also very knowledgable about the craft and explained the mechanics of how each step works. Our finished pieces look awesome! Would definitely come back and recommend to others. Also, when you come here, check out the pieces for sale, they have some really cool ones!

Love love love The Glass Asylum!! We take work trips here to do glass blowing (and have even before they moved to this new location). It is a fun time and they were extremely flexible with our group letting us drink and bring in food from the restaurant next door to make it a big party. We had a fabulous time making glass ornaments and paper weights. Hopefully we will be back soon!

Awesome date night experience! The Glass Asylum is one of the first date spots I went to with my fiancé and it definitely set the pace for our active and adventurous life together. The friendly and accommodating staff gently guide you through the entire process, so no need to feel shy if you don't have a lot of experience using a glory hole or a blow tube. We were grouped with a few other couples, but the overall experience was very intimate. You each take turns and watch the other couples while you wait. It can get really hot in there, so be prepared to sweat. We opted to make glass ornaments since it was around Christmas time. I do have to say, theres quite a bit of hands-on engagement from the staff, so you're not doing too much on your own. It's hard to mess up, however at one point I blew too aggressively and my bulb burst prematurely which resulted in a blob of molten goo. I had to start over, but round 2 was much better. We picked up our finished ornaments a few days later and were really satisfied. We went back the next year around Halloween and made pumpkins, which turned out beautifully. Highly recommend.

Chagrin Falls is just the cutest town. There is something for everyone there and having The Glass Asylum right next to a restaurant was a huge perk. I went here for a women's co-worker outing. There was 12 of us and the place fit us perfectly. The staff and artists were wonderful. Bryan and Kedan were just as much personable as informational. Their assistants Allie and (I forgot the others girl name, sorry!) were also talkative and put you at ease. You can tell they take pride in the work and also want you to have a great experience. Through each step they informed you and guided you along. The sales associate at the counter was also very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The space was absolutely gorgeous. Clean, large and decorated perfectly. Samples of the artists work were displayed throughout the space available for purchase as well as to be admired. Backlit shelves really highlighted the colors in each piece of glass. The actual glass blowing fell a little short. I did understand there was quite a lot of us but I was hoping to have some more hands on interaction. We only got to touch the pole a few times. The most cost effective item to make is $50 and It literally only took 10mins tops. We didn't get to gather the glass or fire it more than once. We did get to blow (made an ornament) and that was cool. We also opted to have dinner afterwards and we decided to do it in the studio which was a mistake. It was so hot (obviously) and we were all sweating eating dinner. Maybe a separate room for dinner would be better. All in all I had a good experience and enjoyed the time I spent with my friends and co-workers. But not sure I would do it again at this location.

We went for a pre-made vase and found one at a good price; though the availability is limited.

I had a living social deal that I couldn't use before they moved out to Chagrin Falls, but they still honored it a few months after the move.

I opted to make a flower, while my daughter planned to create a flower-shaped ring holder as a surprise gift for her sister, who loves rings. Those were the options given to us by the instructor. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the long wait--20 days--for our pieces to arrive, especially since we paid $25 for shipping. I had to email the owner to remind her to send them out. She was apologetic, and the pieces eventually arrived. However, to our dismay, my daughter's piece turned out to be just a flower, a beautiful flower, but not the ring holder she asked to make with the guidance of her instructor. The instructor was with her every step and guided her through the entire process, but seemed to forget the goal of making it into a ring holder which was an option given to us. I reached out to the owner to explain the situation, but there was no acknowledgment of the mistake or any indication of how it might be corrected. Overall, we were left disappointed.

Awful! Don't waste…read moreyour money! One of those times you legit wish you could give 0 stars. We purchased through Groupon. Our class (my two friends, my husband, and me) was supposed to be with the owner, Dan Miller. He was unbelievably rude. I've never been treated like that. My husband and I use N95s in public because I teach high-risk kids and because we don't want to get sick, either. He asked if we masked because we were concerned, and I said we were not sick but masked because I teach high-risk students and don't want to be the one to make a kid sick. My friend and I went to the bathroom before the class started. When we returned, people were filling out paper waivers. I said we had done one online and he said he also wanted a paper one. Ok. We signed and handed it back and he started being so rude to my friend because she didn't put her email and phone. She took back the form and added it, but apparently below the line where he wanted it and he started BERATING her for not following directions (the spot in which to write was small and she missed it and wrote in white space). He was, quite frankly, abusive. He then turned to me and went off about how we should return when we were not sick. I said again we were not sick, but we always masked because I was a teacher. He then repeated how he didn't appreciate us coming sick, and really started insulting me as I tried explaining, for the third time, that I wasn't sick and hadn't been sick in five years. It was so unpleasant. I've never been berated like that by a business owner or employee. We left. He threatened he was going to make sure Groupon wouldn't refund our money. I mask to protect myself and others, especially my students. But, from reading reviews, it isn't just that he's opposed to masks; he's just a massive jerk all around, especially towards women.

My mom is impossible to shop for, so I was super excited when I came across this Mother's Day special on the Akron Glass Works Facebook page. It is a beautiful old church converted into and art space right off of the University of Akron campus. There were about 12 people total with two instructors for the group. They gave a demonstration and then thoroughly went over all the steps with an emphasis on safety. I was a little nervous working with molten hot glass, but the professionalism of the instructors set me at ease. They're by your side the whole time... but you're actually creating the piece yourself. I have been to other glass blowing studios where the instructors are so hands-on, that you feel like you took no part in the entire process. Not this place. I definitely felt like I was making something and they were just there to make sure I didn't burn my hand off. The whole process took less than an hour and our pieces were available for pickup the next day. We each got to make two glass flowers which all turned out beautifully. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something different to do! We had such a great time!
