Just take a smell of the shingles they use and you'll know it's better than the stuff most others use. Work was done on time and on budget. Many friends that visit see the before and after and compliment the shingle work. Even contractors that come by comment on the quality of the shingles, definitely a good sign. Oliver and the shinglers that work for him, Danilo, Jarol, and Killo, are really artisans and take great care and pride (rightfully so!) in their work; they are also genuinely nice people and were easy to work with. I am very, very detail-oriented which has previously been a major source of conflict with contractors. This is the first time I have found no flaws in work I have contracted out. The whole organization is detail-oriented, professional, and knowledgable about the art of shingling. Regarding cost: I had three quotes for shingle replacement and found Oliver's pricing to be similar to the other quotes; I find this truly amazing considering the quality of the work and materials.. Regarding Materials: Oliver buys his shingles in bulk from a small mill in Washington state that fabricates shingles from reclaimed cedar. If you are interested / concerned about sustainable forestry this is a unique benefit that Oliver provides. The quality of the shingles is top notch, too. Regarding the shingles: They are beautiful, and so much better looking than about 95% of the shingled houses around this area. Most contractors don't know how to properly shingle. And maybe you'll find him as handsome as that other guy, who knows? As an aside, I really like the idea of using Yelp to review and find contractors rather than a paid site like Angie's List. Why not use the great Yelp system that's already in place? Let's build a great database of reviews for contractors . . . I had Edwin (with a little help the second day from his brother Claudio) replace a damaged door upstairs, replace a broken bathroom soap dish with a few tiles, mount a wire soap dish to the wall, (a much better design IMHO - the tile soap dishes always get soap scum on them and are generally in the way) patch some parts of the wall that had been damaged, and put a trap door in my bathroom ceiling that lets you service the upstairs tub plumbing since that sprung a leak a while back. It had been fixed, but the hole in the ceiling hadn't. Everything was done with an eye towards appearance and quality, and I was impressed especially with how he tried to match the "splatter" wall coating that was up there before on the drywall that replaced it, the quality of the bathroom job, and the speed and quality with which he did the trapdoor. He really seems to be able to provide quick, high-quality solutions to home maintenance projects. We talked about some bigger projects later on, so hopefully the New Year will be prosperous enough to tackle those too . . . thanks Edwin!

Oops sorry!] I was putting my home up for sale and needed a few small repairs before the home inspection. Well, I totally got my dates mixed up and it turned out that I only had two days to make these fixes (otherwise they'd be marked on the inspection report, which we didn't want! I ended up calling Diablo Valley handyman as they were recommended to me by a neighbor. I called first thing in the morning, and I believe I spoke with the actual owner (James.) I told him my situation and even though it sounded like he had a pretty full schedule, he was able to have somebody up the very next day to not only assess everything, but actually make the repairs! We needed to have a fence repaired , a new staircase hand-railing put up, some minor trim fixes around our windows. And then quite a few window screens needed replacing. (We have cats, lol) The fact that they were able to come out on such short notice, make all the repairs in one day, plus the guys that showed up to do the work were warm and friendly! After all of this, I absolutely expected to pay a high premium, however, the invoice came back for a more than reasonable amount! (It was a bit higher than the original estimate over the phone, but that was our fault because we forgot to tell them about the window screens!) Getting ready to sell a house is maddening and so stressful. Do Diablo Valley handyman was one of the only aspects that put us at ease during this entire process! Unfortunately, we moved quite a bit further away so we fall out of these guys' service zone now, but that's part of the reason why I wanted to make sure I wrote this review.... because I never forgot the awesome service we received!

My project consisted of new stucco, trim, framing, and painting for my garage; and drywall and baseboard work inside. Mark and Alvaro completed the work and did a fantastic job. Mark kept me informed with all the progress each day, and his attention to detail ensured that everything ended up looking great.
