For these reasons I would not recommend this company because he fails to understand who is supporting his business the consumers who is the clients.

Maika'i installed damaged/ defective floor tiles in both my bathrooms and tried to say the…read morescratches were part of the "design" of the tiles. One bathroom had 18 scratches and the other had 14. The scratches are between 3-5 inches in length and are very noticeable on the polished surface. First they tried to say it wasn't noticeable then they said it was part of the design. They will not replace it or refund me enough so I can hire another contractor to replace it. The work supervisor jun sent me pictures of another customers shower walls that had the same scratched tiles with red arrows pointing out the scratches and said it was "not noticeable unless you looked at it at an angle." This means they are installing defective/ damaged material in other customers homes too. I saved many years to afford this remodel and I am devastated by their poor work and materials. They also did a bad job of grout on the shower floors and bathroom floors and when I asked why pipes they installed for my tub to walk in shower conversion were off center they said they always do it that way. If they had told me they planned to install the pipes off center before they did it I would have hired a different company. Communication is very poor with this company. None of the workers on site speak English and their "supervisor" is rarely there so the workers are left on their own and they have poor judgement and little common sense. The owner Q never answers e mails or text messages when you have concerns and the supervisor Jun tries to charge you extra to fix problems they caused that should have just been done right the first time. They were supposed to install shower doors I bought from Home Depot but on their first attempt the doors were askew and not aligning parallel to the shower walls and they only glued the door jams on instead of following the instruction manual and using the provided wall anchors and screws that came with the kit. Then they threw away the box. I sent them a video from Home Depot showing them how to do it. The supervisor Jun assured me that he and the workers had watched the video and would do it correctly with screws the next day. The next day I called Jun and he said he was there when they put the screws in. I told him that the door jams peeled off the walls because once again they only used glue and no screws. I had to hire a different contractor to put in the doors even though in our signed contract Maika'i was supposed to provide the labor to install the doors and I paid them to do it. The owner Q said that it wasn't necessary to follow the instruction manual for installing the doors because his office worker who used to work at Home Depot said it wasn't necessary. I would guess that this worker has never installed a Delta Contemporary sliding shower door in their life. They put so much grout on the shower floor it obscured the floor tiles and you couldn't pry out the shower drain if you had a clog that needed to be snaked. Then they chipped the tile when the chiseled off the excess grout off the drain cap. Other red flags to watch out for: they want most of the money upfront or halfway through with only 5% due at completion of work. This gives them little incentive to finish in a timely manner or do a good job the way a 50% at completion would. They wanted me to buy flooring from their store for them to install but it only had a 10 year warranty. I told them my brother's flooring from Bougainville had a lifetime warranty for residential use and Jun said they could make theirs a lifetime warranty because they worked closely with the manufacturer in China. I needed popcorn ceiling that had asbestos in it removed. Although the contract I signed with them said if the ceiling had asbestos it would have to be professionally abated, Jun told me they could remove it even though it had asbestos and "we do it all the time." I told him his workers didn't have protection from breathing it in and I didn't want them getting mesothelioma. I also didn't want me or my family to get mesothelioma from their contaminating the whole house and the abatement company said it is illegal to be dumping that stuff in regular trash. I could go on but this is getting pretty long. My advice to you would be to know they are not accredited with the Better Business Bureau but you can still file a complaint against them with the BBB and the BBB will work to mediate for you, you can file a complaint with the Hawaii state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, but most importantly do not hire this company! Save yourself the stress and sleepless nights. They are cheaper than most other companies but there is a reason for that. Sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes you get even less than you paid for...

While building, they didn't even use the slab design I chose because it was out of stock; since I am easygoing, I wasn't going to start an ordeal over it. I'm unsure if that was the case or if they have to use the cheaper product for us because we have no construction knowledge. Furthermore, when we cleared my brother's room to turn it into a baby room, we noticed painting spots all over. -They did not move anything and only painted to please the visible eye. We are now seeking out them to make this right. If you don't have experience in the same field or knowledge of fixing houses, I wouldn't recommend using their services. They are not honest and genuine in providing their services. Unfortunately, we didn't have basic knowledge of construction and were scammed by them.

That is what the team at Renovate Hawaii did for us. We met Kyle (we call him Kyle Style because he has a good sense of style that we like) who is part of the Renovate Hawaii team and when we were describing the vision we were going for, he knew exactly what we were talking about and even showed us pictures of a renovation they recently did. We wanted a full renovation of the kitchen, dining room. We already knew what countertops, appliances, we wanted and Kyle complemented us on our choices as the look is totally modern. He said that they can get us the countertops as only a select few can get them due to they only sell to officially licensed companies who are certified to work with that particular brand stone. After Kyle did all the measurements and took down the notes he made another appointment to bring back Matt the owner of Renovate Hawaii to come and give his expert opinions as well as options. When Matt came down, he noticed that the cabinets were actually custom made, not one of those cookie cutter ones from China or from one of the big box stores. He suggested on having them refinished by a company that does really good work ( I will make a review for that company later ). Matt and Kyle were looking around gave us ideas and somethings we didn't even think about like what kind of fixtures we were going to get and where would the placements be. They even upgraded all the hinges to soft-close for our drawers and cabinets. The kitchen had dated tile and the rest of the rooms were a mixture of old carpet, hardwood and lament so they tore it all out as well as the baseboards and got rid of all the rubbish. We found a place that had all the flooring in stock and Matt said his guys could pick it up and delivery to our house which made life so much easier. They even picked up our baseboards from The Home Depot. They went beyond in helping us get what we wanted. Since we had our own electrician Tory who is also the bomb as he too gave us great suggestions and connected the lighting so we can use an app to operate them as well as did so much more. Renovate and Tory worked well together to make our dream a reality. One thing to note is that not all things go as smoothly as you'd like. For the things that needed to be fixed, Matt and the team came back to take care of them. If you are looking for someone to help you turn your house into a home, don't hesitate to call Renovate Hawaii as that's what they do. It may be because we also ordered the bathroom renovation, but either way, the value was excellent. Our kitchen was transformed into a modern and much more spacious space. The renovation contractors who worked on our project were not very fluent in English, but they were extremely considerate, communicated patiently through gestures, and never showed any frustration. The company as a whole has a warm and thoughtful culture, and everyone we interacted with was genuinely kind. Overall, this is a company I would highly recommend.

Maikai Cabinets helped us to keep the cost down and yet have quality materials, craftsmanship, and customer service. We're happy that the house is fully upgraded but sad we won't be working with Makai Cabinets for another 20-years to refresh the home. We wanted our open roofed patio enclosed and Shaka's quote was good. We had to schedule around the delivery of the windows I ordered and Danny was very good about organizing a schedule that worked . He even checked prices on windows to see if his contact could do better on price. George was our main framer and he was there every morning and extremely meticulous about his work. They run a very good operation and kept the job site clean and they were very polite. We love the new patio! We didn't put walls in on the inside (just kept the framing open with only exterior siding) and we really like the way it looks, it helps that the framing was done so well. I did all the painting and window trims (inside) myself and also built some big shelves with the scrap lumber that I asked to keep after they were done. Now our previously dirty open outside patio is enclosed, we have a great laundry/relaxation/dog/storage area that is free of leaves and offers cool winds from the jalousies we put in. I would offer no hesitation in recommending Shaka Construction. I've been an owner builder on a previous house where we dealt with a bunch of various contractors and believe Shaka is right up there with the best.

Keenan Yoshida, the boss, was very easy to talk to and explained the entire process. His estimate was very reasonable, too. His crew was respectful of our home and made every effort to keep it as dust free and clean as possible during the renovation process. They were very professional in their demeanor. Fast forward six years, it was now time to do window replacement. I had several companies provide an estimate before thinking about asking if Keenan did that type of job. Keenan promptly came by with the window representative and explained the various window models and suggested which type of window for each area. Within a few days, he provided us with an estimate that was very reasonable. When the windows arrived, his crew began working on the install and was done in a few days. Once again, they covered everything with plastic to keep the home as clean as possible. Keenan was on-site daily, answering questions that popped up. He also responded to text messages promptly.
