These are the guys to call if you have a genuinely antique machine and want to keep using it. They have the knowledge and skills. They got my Adler 187 diagnosed the same afternoon I dropped it off, repair complete by the end of the day. read more

For superior service and quality, go to Johnny Ruiz for your sewing machine repair needs. He's honest, fair, and a master at his craft. The value of his work is priceless. I consider him a true Austin pillar of excellence. read more

Johnny Ruiz is who you need in your life to help with your sewing machine needs. He is so knowledgeable, kind, and honest in answering all my questions. I recently acquired a Singer 201-2. I had initially planned to work on it myself but eventually needed help. I cleaned and worked on what I could but was stuck on getting the right tension after I took the tension assembly apart. I have exhausted all my resources on Youtube. I was so frustrated and went on Reddit and found Johnny's name. Then I looked up his shop on Yelp and was immediately sold after seeing his 5-stars reviews. He is conveniently located in South Austin near William Cannon and Slaughter Lane. I called Johnny and explained my problem. I dropped off my machine at his house and he told me that his son will work on it. I chatted with him for a long while about sewing machines. It's lovely to talk to someone who shares the same passion and appreciation for sewing machines. Despite our age gap, I felt like I was chatting with an old friend. I get a phone call from Johnnie the next day WITHIN 24 hours letting me know that my machine is ready to be picked up! Fully serviced and replaced a few parts and she runs like new again. Best $125 I spent. If I had gone to other shops, turn around time would be at least 1+ month before the machine is even looked at. Johnny is old school and does not use the internet. He is a gem. read more

John was so knowledgeable and helpful and was able to fix my old Bernina right up in record time! His technical skill and customer service are absolutely unmatched. read more

I reached out to Johnny after my Bernina 830 stopped working mid-project. (In its defense, I hadn't serviced it in 2 years, so it was time.) In only a few days, Johnny gave it a thorough cleaning and oiling and found that someone in the past had installed a screw that was a bit too big, so it was throwing things off inside. Now, it's working perfectly again, purring like a kitten. Love being able to keep these older machines running. read more

Wow, Johnnie is incredible. I took a 36-year old Singer sewing machine in for repair (slipping fly wheel) and by the next day Johnnie had found the parts, fixed the machine, and even replaced a burned out light. The total charge was a very reasonable $95. Johnnie shops thrift shops for parts to scavenge for very old machines like Mom's. I couldn't be happier! read more

Some parts fell out of my bobbin compartment and in addition, my threading tension was all messed up. It's an old machine. Anyway, he fixed the problems and now it sews like new. AND he was close by and reasonable. I'm sure I'll use him again. read more

John is a very sweet repair man. It's so rare to find an old school repair man that knows his job well and takes pride in it.

I contacted Mr Johnny and he was able to service my 1946 Singer and repair my 80s model Kenmore machines. He was always prompt in his communications and had my machines back to me the next day for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend. read more

Mr. Ruiz is highly knowledgeable about sewing machines and provides expert workmanship. In addition, his turn-around times are lightning fast, essentially 24 hours for basic cleaning and lubrication. That's unmatched service in this town!!! read more

GREAT SERVICE Knowledgeable and very timely. Highly recommended! He told me how much he likes this brand and how well its made, reassured me of the service issues. read more

I had research dozens of sewing machine's experts. This is a real professional! Very thankful!

Johnny is not only a sweet human being but so reliable. He fixed my machine and conditioned it in a reasonable amount of time.

Got my 2001 singer all fixed up for just 80 bucks. I have a 1962 singer touch and sew priced for a fix up with a new peddle for just 90. Honest and friendly. He works from home and will meet you to pick up your machine. This guy is old school and only takes cash or checks. read more

Just outstanding work. Took my wife's sewing machine, a White, and he gave it a tune up and fixed a whole bunch of cracks in the casing all inside of 24 hrs. All this during a global pandemic. Folks, this fella knows sewing machines and is reasonably priced, honest and expeditious. read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would! Johnny is wonderful! It's Sunday. Late last night, my machine was acting up and wouldn't work correctly. I'm in the middle of a project and was nervous I might end up without a machine for days or weeks, and since it's Sunday, I didn't expect a repair business to be open. I googled and found Johnny and left a message. He called me back! He asked detailed questions and walked me through how to test it once I'm in front of my machine. He then shared key insight regarding needle sizes, thread, tension, tissue etc for these stretchy fabrics I use. Most places don't help like this. I am so incredibly grateful. What a gem for Austin! Thank you Johnny! read more

This business is a complete fraud. Called and asked if he still serviced sewing machines and he asked what was wrong with it. I mentioned that I mostly just wanted a general service (since that's what you're supposed to do every so often if you sew), but that the tension seemed to be a little off at times (nothing major though). He said that he could help me out. So I drove down to meet him, handed off my machine, and drove off. He called about 45 minutes later and said that he sewed a test swatch and said everything looked fine (yes, sometimes the tension is fine, but other times it loops and pulls...I'm also quite aware of how to adjust tension as I've been sewing for 30 years). He said he'd "only" charge me $25. I met him again to pick up my machine and asked him what exactly he had done. He showed me the scrap of fabric. So I asked if he had serviced the machine. He said that he had cleaned it as well as tended to the tension discs. He then continued to tell me how to adjust tension while sewing. I explained that I knew how to sew and that I do so often (quilts, pillows, various items for my kid, etc). He then said in an extremely rude tone, "How would you even know if I fixed the tension?" I couldn't believe it. He was basically telling me that I was too stupid to be able to figure out if he had done what he said he had. I got home and opened up the bobbin area and, not to my surprise, was greeted by multiple lint balls. Obviously he had not even bothered to clean the machine as he had mentioned. Tension still is a problem (I don't think stitching a few straight and zigzag lines and calling it a day compares to sewing an actual project). Now I'm out money and still need to have my machine serviced. I'm guessing that maybe he doesn't understand newer machines and does better with older ones (mine is 5 years old). If you want your machine to be fully serviced, I'd suggest taking it elsewhere. Don't waste your time and money. read more

Johnny was such a pleasure to meet! He is a good human being with a warm heart and such a blessing in world so full of negativity. If you have a sewing machine that needs a tune up or repairs I highly suggest you take it to Johnny. His turn around time to get me back sewing was super fast as well. Thank you so much Mr. Johnny! read more

Johnny is the MAN! Johnny helped us when our sewing maching had problems looping and sewing. When we called this honest, experienced, pleasant man, we got the best experience one could ever hope for. Johnny not only troubleshot the issues over the phone with 100% accuracy, his knowledge and greatness made for a much happier weekend. We called other places and everyone said to bring it in and would not give us a lick of data over the phone so that they could charge us, so for us to find this amazingly sharp sewing needle in the haystack, our search ended based on his instruction and generosity. Johnny services the machines and can repair anything but also has solid connections in the industry. I am serious, this is the GO TO MAN in Austin! We could not be more thankful. Thank you Johnny for your patience, understanding, superior customer service, and we look forward to working with you as much as we can in the future! Happy Valentines Day, too, Johnny! :) He is SEW Terrific! We would give him a thousand platinum stars if allowable. read more

Johnny (owner/operator of All City Sewing Machine) does not have a storefront at the moment but he is still doing business as always. If you live neaby, I believe he will pick up/drop off your machine at your house or you can, as I did this morning, meet him somewhere to do the exchange. Either way--he is, and always has been the guy to call for anything sewing machine related. He has been servicing my old Singer since I inherited it from my mom and has always been quick (same day service) and very reasonable ($). To top it off, he is just a wonderful person to do business with and say 'hello' to every time your machine belt breaks... read more

The other reviews are correct - Johnny rocks! He came to my house and picked up our machine on Saturday. My daughter had a class on Monday so he got it back to me same day. No need to look further - Johnny is the man!! read more

This guy really knows what he is doing, and is very determined to make you a happy customer. I called because my singer was not stitching properly, and I know next to nothing about sewing machines, I have cleaned mine a few times but that is it. I explained to Johnny what was happening, (very poorly because I don't know the terminology) but he understood me and walked me through the steps to fix the problem, which was very simple. I thanked him many times and he politely said " I am just happy to help people fix easy problems on their own, others would charge you for that." Johnny is an honest person who is not out to get your money. Look no further for help with your sewing machine issues. read more

Johnny is just a gem. He actually just left our house. We had a broken Singer and he said it wasn't worth fixing so he came to our house with 2 beautifully serviced machines and we bought one for less than the repair or for less than the junk they sell on the Internet. My wife also got a nice sewing lesson and we chit chatted over iced tea. He knows his stuff! NOTE: He's currently changing locations but his PHONE NUMBER IS GOOD. 512) 444-8929 Just call him. The address for the shop is not valid... TBA read more

Johnny is such a sweet sweet man! I called him up about an old machine I bought for cheap that I was hoping to get repaired. I ended up just buying one from him that he had already serviced, than spending an arm and a leg trying to figure out what was wrong with mine. I'm very happy with the machine I got from him, it's a late 70s singer and absolutely lovely! When I met up with him to purchase the machine (since he does everything from his home) I was smiling the entire time, he was very kind and has a great heart. I would recommend him to anybody! read more

Johnny is not only an expert at what he does, he is the kindest human being you will ever come across. It seems silly and almost fake to explain what an enjoyable experience I had visiting Johnny but not only did he explain how my machine works and fix it but he also gave me some excellent life advice. He is a very beautiful soul and enjoyed every moment of our interaction. People from all around come to him to have him work on their sewing machines and I would recommend him even if it means making the extra effort to drive out to wherever he is. read more

Johnny is the best. He tuned/up repaired our 1950's Singer sewing machine, which we had inherited and left in storage for about a decade. It is working beautifully again, and the repair price was reasonable, especially given the hours he must have spend on it to work again and the missing parts he gave us. He met us in a nearby Sprouts parking lot (Manchaca and William Cannon) for pick-up and drop off, since he closed his store and his residential neighborhood does not want commercial traffic. It only took him a couple of days to fix it. Definintely recommend him. Johnny knows and loves older sewing machines. read more

Johnny repaired my OLD (1940s?) Singer sewing machine that I learned to sew on wonderfully. I was wanting to have it working due to mask making and my old Singer sews through multiple layers of fabric much better that my "newer" Kenmore from the 1970s ;o) Such a pleasure to deal with someone who knows his business and takes such pride in his work!!! He only accepts cash or a check and you will have to meet him to drop off your machine in South Austin, but SO worth it! read more

Mr. Johnny doesn't have his store front anymore but he's still killin' the sewing machine repair game! He also doesn't even know what yelp is and doesn't use the interwebs, he's old school and I like it! Met him at the first baptist church down on SoCo south of Stassney/William Cannon. He is such a nice guy, and does this in his spare time to make some change. He serviced my singer and replaced some parts for me (I'm a beginner and broke something stupid oooops) but basically replaced them for free. His service work just to maintain your machine will cost you anywhere from $75-$85 pending what cha got going on. If parts and other items are requiring replace, he'll charge per part beyond that. He had my machine up and running within an hour and a half, and met me at the same location from earlier. He accepts cash only! If you want work done by someone who has more than 35+ yrs in the biz, he's your guy. Johnny on the spot! Thanks! read more

In the course of describing my machine's problem over the phone, I realized the silly mistake I'd made and fixed the problem myself; then apologized for wasting Johnny's time. Then he politely corrected me, saying "If you can fix it yourself, that's always the best thing. Now, you haven't wasted my time at all! If you have any more problems though, don't you hesitate to call. I'd be happy to take a look." Come again? How wonderful a response was that! I didn't know people still had such wonderful hospitality! I will ship my machines here from out of state if I ever move, but I will never ever trust anyone else with my mother's sewing machine again. Thank you, Johnny!!!! read more

What an amazing person he is! I purchased a sewing machine awhile back at a Goodwill for $10, it is turquoise, has a built-in table and weighs about 60 lbs. I started a few projects on it but it seemed out of balance and slipped stitches every now and then. I was hesitant to take it to a place because everyone seemed to quote a high price and as far as I knew, nothing was broken, it just needed a tune-up. I called All City on a Tues. morning, Johnny answered the phone right away and I was a little shocked when he said he could meet me (IN 15 MIN!) to drop off the machine. We met at a CVS parking lot, which was halfway for both of us, and I honestly didn't expect to hear back for awhile seeing he was so busy and all. He called that night and said it was ready to go, and the following morning I picked up my well-oiled machine that runs at super speed and now hums a happy song. The price was incredibly reasonable, and he was the nicest, kindest person I have met. He also said if there were any issues in the future to call, and he would be more than happy to help. So rare to meet someone so honest and kind. What a great experience! read more

After reading yelpers reviews, I met Mr Ruiz at a church parking lot for the exchange. The fabric wasn't feeding and i thought I'd take a chance to see if he can make his magic happen without ordering/replacing parts as this would be costly and time consuming. I mean the machine is 10years old, made in everything plastic China, so its not worth much anyway. YES!!! Mr Ruiz worked his "Magic" for nominal fee and tume. I was back at the church parking lot in 2hrs...YAY!!! The machine feeds, works and sounds like a new machine. I believe the rave reviews...He is awesome, old schooled gentleman and honest as they come. I will be in the market when this machine needs to go to plastic heaven or is it Hollywood? I would certainly buy a reconditioned more durable next machine from Mr Ruiz. Yes, he sells better quality reconditioned machines before everything turned china plastic at a great prices. Thanks Mr Ruiz/yelpers, you're reviews for All City Sewing is  A++++Accurate! Tell all your family and friends about All City! read more

Highly recommend! He helped me over the phone to solve my problem. If I ever have a problem again I will definitely take my sewing machine to this man! Another amazed and satisfied customer. So kind, so polite, SO HELPFUL and efficient. He fixed my machine over the phone after offering to meet me near my house to pick it up. Not only does he know exactly what he is doing, but he is also a saint. THANK you! read more

Johnny is such a nice man. I inherited a mid century era sewing machine that needed a tune up. He took it and had it back to me in less than 24 hours. Extremely affordable repair and educated me and my daughter about the machine. FYI, he no longer works out of his South Congress storefront. He will meet you somewhere in South Austin and pick up the machine. I imagine it helps keep his prices down since he no longer has overhead to pay. read more

I have an old Montgomery Wards Happy Lite sewing machine and couldn't get the bobbin and needle to work together. I called Johnny. He first tried to help me fix it via phone and when that didn't work, he came and picked it up that day, fixed it, oiled it up, and dropped it back off the same day. Price was super reasonable, if not on the cheap side. "Seams" like a no-brainer who to use! read more

I chose Johnny based on the reviews that I read on Yelp about his services. Johnny was very personable, professional and honest. He agreed to meet me at any time that was convenient for me to pick up my machine. When we met, he gave a quick look-over of my machine- you can tell he is very passionate about what he does and treats your machine like it's the only one he has at the moment. He called me about 30 minutes after I dropped off my sewing machine and gave me the rundown of what was going on and said he could even meet with me that night to drop it back off. Unfortunately I was busy, so the next day he went out of his way to meet me at work to give me back my machine and charged me hardly anything to fix the one thing that was wrong and even threw in some bobbins that better fit my machine! I'm glad that I chose Johnny based on the reviews and would recommend him to any of my sewing friends! read more

Woohoo! As good as it gets is true for All City Sewing Machine! I called Johnny Ruiz, who owns All City Sewing Machine and within two days, I had a working sewing machine. He actually came by my apartment to pick it up, then 1 day turn-around, he returned to my apartment to drop off. I needed a tune-up on an older JC Penney Machine that I didn't know how to use. He was very helpful and actually showed me how the machine worked. I am just learning how to sew and I thank Johnny for such a great experience! read more
