I had initially planned to work on it myself but eventually needed help. I cleaned and worked on what I could but was stuck on getting the right tension after I took the tension assembly apart. I have exhausted all my resources on Youtube. I was so frustrated and went on Reddit and found Johnny's name. I'm in the middle of a project and was nervous I might end up without a machine for days or weeks, and since it's Sunday, I didn't expect a repair business to be open. I googled and found Johnny and left a message. He called me back! He asked detailed questions and walked me through how to test it once I'm in front of my machine. This business is a complete fraud. Called and asked if he still serviced sewing machines and he asked what was wrong with it. I mentioned that I mostly just wanted a general service (since that's what you're supposed to do every so often if you sew), but that the tension seemed to be a little off at times (nothing major though). He said that he could help me out. So I drove down to meet him, handed off my machine, and drove off. He called about 45 minutes later and said that he sewed a test swatch and said everything looked fine (yes, sometimes the tension is fine, but other times it loops and pulls...I'm also quite aware of how to adjust tension as I've been sewing for 30 years). He said he'd "only" charge me $25. I met him again to pick up my machine and asked him what exactly he had done. He showed me the scrap of fabric. So I asked if he had serviced the machine. He said that he had cleaned it as well as tended to the tension discs. He then continued to tell me how to adjust tension while sewing. I explained that I knew how to sew and that I do so often (quilts, pillows, various items for my kid, etc). He then said in an extremely rude tone, "How would you even know if I fixed the tension?" I couldn't believe it. He was basically telling me that I was too stupid to be able to figure out if he had done what he said he had. I got home and opened up the bobbin area and, not to my surprise, was greeted by multiple lint balls. Obviously he had not even bothered to clean the machine as he had mentioned. Tension still is a problem (I don't think stitching a few straight and zigzag lines and calling it a day compares to sewing an actual project). Now I'm out money and still need to have my machine serviced. I'm guessing that maybe he doesn't understand newer machines and does better with older ones (mine is 5 years old). If you want your machine to be fully serviced, I'd suggest taking it elsewhere. Don't waste your time and money. read more

If you live neaby, I believe he will pick up/drop off your machine at your house or you can, as I did this morning, meet him somewhere to do the exchange. This guy really knows what he is doing, and is very determined to make you a happy customer. I called because my singer was not stitching properly, and I know next to nothing about sewing machines, I have cleaned mine a few times but that is it. I explained to Johnny what was happening, (very poorly because I don't know the terminology) but he understood me and walked me through the steps to fix the problem, which was very simple. It is working beautifully again, and the repair price was reasonable, especially given the hours he must have spend on it to work again and the missing parts he gave us. He met us in a nearby Sprouts parking lot (Manchaca and William Cannon) for pick-up and drop off, since he closed his store and his residential neighborhood does not want commercial traffic. He is such a nice guy, and does this in his spare time to make some change. He serviced my singer and replaced some parts for me (I'm a beginner and broke something stupid oooops) but basically replaced them for free. His service work just to maintain your machine will cost you anywhere from $75-$85 pending what cha got going on. If parts and other items are requiring replace, he'll charge per part beyond that. He had my machine up and running within an hour and a half, and met me at the same location from earlier. He accepts cash only! After reading yelpers reviews, I met Mr Ruiz at a church parking lot for the exchange. The fabric wasn't feeding and i thought I'd take a chance to see if he can make his magic happen without ordering/replacing parts as this would be costly and time consuming. I mean the machine is 10years old, made in everything plastic China, so its not worth much anyway. YES!!! Mr Ruiz worked his "Magic" for nominal fee and tume. I was back at the church parking lot in 2hrs...YAY!!! The machine feeds, works and sounds like a new machine. I believe the rave reviews...He is awesome, old schooled gentleman and honest as they come. I will be in the market when this machine needs to go to plastic heaven or is it Hollywood? I would certainly buy a reconditioned more durable next machine from Mr Ruiz. Yes, he sells better quality reconditioned machines before everything turned china plastic at a great prices. In the course of describing my machine's problem over the phone, I realized the silly mistake I'd made and fixed the problem myself; then apologized for wasting Johnny's time. Then he politely corrected me, saying "If you can fix it yourself, that's always the best thing. Now, you haven't wasted my time at all! If you have any more problems though, don't you hesitate to call. I'd be happy to take a look." Come again? How wonderful a response was that! I didn't know people still had such wonderful hospitality! What an amazing person he is! I purchased a sewing machine awhile back at a Goodwill for $10, it is turquoise, has a built-in table and weighs about 60 lbs. I started a few projects on it but it seemed out of balance and slipped stitches every now and then. I was hesitant to take it to a place because everyone seemed to quote a high price and as far as I knew, nothing was broken, it just needed a tune-up. I called All City on a Tues. morning, Johnny answered the phone right away and I was a little shocked when he said he could meet me (IN 15 MIN!) to drop off the machine. We met at a CVS parking lot, which was halfway for both of us, and I honestly didn't expect to hear back for awhile seeing he was so busy and all. He called that night and said it was ready to go, and the following morning I picked up my well-oiled machine that runs at super speed and now hums a happy song. The price was incredibly reasonable, and he was the nicest, kindest person I have met. He also said if there were any issues in the future to call, and he would be more than happy to help.
