Dadd's Appliance Repair

Only five stars allowed? After being without an oven since…read moreNovember, we were THRILLED when our new range arrived. Since it is a dual fuel - gas on top and an electric oven - plus a downdraft, few installers can tackle a task like that. Dan arrived within only two days, and has installed lots of dual fuels and downdrafts before. He was polite, efficient, kept asking me if I had any questions, and cleaned up when he was done, including the removal of my old sweetheart. May she rest in peace. Call 231-652-0372 to get it done right!

My dryer stopped working and was 18 years old so was on fence about repairing or replacing. Dryer…read moreworked when I held the start button in so was hoping was a minor fix. I called Dadd's and told him age of the dryer and he strongly encouraged a repair. He said it could be as low as $130 for a minor repair or $200 at most. He said it was $90 for diagnostic and no charge for travel. He came out 2 days later and was 3 hours into his arrival window. After no more than 5 minutes he said I had a busted belt and I was happy thinking I'd be on the low end of his service charge. He didn't say anything further and took dryer apart to replace it. After a couple of belts he did find one that fit and installed it and then announced my bill was $200. I was a little surprised cuz the work he did couldn't have taken more than 15 minutes and he'd told me on the phone he billed for labor by the quarter hour and didn't know why this small job wouldn't qualify for the $130 price he quoted me on the phone for something that took about 15 minutes! I let him know I wasn't thrilled and he started quoting other places that were allegedly much higher for just a service call instead of explaining his pricing. He never even offered me an itemized bill either showing exactly how he justified that price either! In retrospect I should have demanded one. I thought all professionals would do that for repairs! He didn't even offer a receipt either although I did pay with a check. I thought he was a little unscrupulous quoting me $70 cheaper on the phone than what he charged when the work was done--especially when I would have been hesitant to put $200 dollars more into that old of a dryer--and he was aware of the age of my dryer! I also looked up the serial # of my belt and it was only $10 on Amazon--so if was $90 for diagnostic and $10 for belt he charged me $100 for 15 minutes of work! I would not recommend this company.

Waste of money. Although it looks good the refrigerator never worked well and is VERY loud. When it's humid the stainless steel covering the freezer portion has condensation build up to the point it pools on the floor. If you don't want to go all the way up to SubZero try GE Monogram which I have in another home and is quiet, efficient and work perfectly.

We loved Northland's simplicity (no ice/water in the door) heavy duty shelves and simple design. So many refrigerators with all the fancy storage options have TERRIBLE space utilization. Anyway, we woke Sunday morning to find the temperature in our freezer was 40 degrees. We are pretty handy and figured out that the condenser fan was not working. We set up a box fan to supplement the cooling of the coils. A few hours later, we were back to a satisfactory temperature so we bought ourselves time to place a non Sunday emergency repair call. We called several appliance service companies this morning and it turns out appliance repair people don't like working on cabinet refrigerators. The company we purchased our appliances from had also offered service but has since gone out of business. Out of desperation we finally called Northland. We told them what was wrong and they told us what part we needed and offered to walk it through to their shipping department to get it out TODAY so we can have it before the holiday. The Northland repair tech was pretty impressed with our temporary fix and our diagnostics of the issue and said 'you sound pretty handy, you could fix this yourself'. He explained what we needed to do and offered phone support if we need assistance after receiving the part. It is nice to find that 8 years after the purchase that you are still happy with the company. This was an investment and not just a refrigerator. It is built into a wall of cabinets and has a custom front, so it would be a challenge if it needed to be replaced. It was nice to find out that we can also purchase an entire new cooling unit if need be in the future.
