I wrote this letter to Lisa (of All American Hearing, Redmond) and decided to post it here verbatim.

Dear Lisa:
A few weeks ago, I accompanied my mother to All American Hearing. We both agree that your help with Mom's hearing aides was one of the best things that has happened to Mom in a long, long time.
Mom has had hearing aides (two different kinds) for several years and has never been helped by them. In both cases, we felt that the care after purchase was very, very poor. Mom's ears hurt because of the earbuds, and she was never even sure if the hearing aides were on and functioning. In fact, when Mom came in to see you, the batteries were in backwards. That was not really the only problem, however, as sometimes she did have the batteries in properly. She just wasn't hearing a difference, and her ears hurt. My mom is not a complainer, so I knew they must really be hurting if she paid that much for them and didn't wear them.
You spent a lot of time with Mom. I was so glad that I accompanied her, as we both learned a lot. It hadn't occurred to either of us that the brain needs to process sound in order to keep the circuits functioning, and this really hit home with us, as we saw the need for Mom to use the hearing aides even if she was home alone.
I appreciated the patient, careful attention you gave to Mom's testing, and the way you listened to her concerns. Mom is 89, and she is very sharp. Still, there was a lot of information to take in, and you helped Mom to understand it all. I liked your friendliness and wit.
By the time we left, we were both thoroughly satisfied, and actually thrilled that Mom would finally have some help with a problem that has caused frustration for years. We both sang your praises for being patient, enthusiastic, kind, and very well informed.
I have tried to help Mom with this hearing problem several times over a period of three or four years, and it has been disheartening. She really wants to keep up with the world, but she was missing so much due to her hearing issues. When we got back to Lakeview, Mom went to church. As luck would have it, the sound system was not working. Mom heard it anyway. I have done a few "tests" myself with her. I noticed that she didn't always turn the water off because, I think, she didn't hear it running. I had her walk down the hall and tell me if she heard the water. She did. Her hearing is not perfect, of course. It is, however, much better. She said she doesn't even think about having the ear buds in her ears because they are so comfortable. That part was an easy fix, but nobody suggested it before.
Really, I can't thank you enough for helping my mom with a problem that's been bothering all of us for so long. I commend you on your professionalism, kindness, thoroughness---and for making this visit fun as well as educational and productive.
We are fans.
Sincerely,
Barb Harlan
This review (and the stars) are based on this ONE encounter. I can't vouch for the experiences of others, or for care following appointments, etc. THIS APPOINTMENT was terrific. read more
