The hubby is a table top games enthusiast. We were visiting downtown Boise and we checked out this shop which by the way smells so nice as it is next to an ice cream shop. Was tempted to go check out the ice cream but opted to yelp nearby souvenir shops instead. I've visited many game shops in 3 different states and this is a typical one. Customer service on a Saturday late afternoon was pleasant. The hubby purchased 3 games and a sticker book of 1,000 food stickers for me. I make greeting cards. The food stickers are perfect for the ones I will will make for the Yelp friends that I correspond w/regularly. Overall, this is a very nice table top games store in downtown Boise. 4 stars! read more

First off kinda lacking in customer service. Kinda a what you want attitude. They apparently don't do Pokémon or Lorcana even tho they have Pokemon decorations however was told they do magic the gathering however you have to go thru the inconvenience of ordering them online. If I was going do that I would buy off eBay and get them cheaper. If looking for a specific card eBay the way to go. However when just wanting to see cards and buy cards you never tought to buy or look for that's the purpose of a LGS. Also being able to see conditions of cards is very important to those who collect and have grading potential. I'd recommend if they don't want to go out of business for a brick and mortar store they stay away from selling singles only online and diversify. read more

I have visited this place a number of times to play magic, and probably will continue coming here occasionally in a pinch, but would not recommend it given the wealth of better options within ten minutes. More specifically, I suppose, I would recommend going here once to confirm the details of this review, then moving on to better experiences nearby. Here is why: Actual prices on games and supplies are sometimes good, more often just middling. Expect to pay middle-of-the-road prices, though this is a big improvement from the high prices they used to charge here. The bigger concern here is with gaming events. Entry fees are oftentimes very high (for magic, typically twice the price of other shops), but the payout for winning (and losing) is low, and oftentimes shockingly so. Most notably, for standard showdown, the prize packs awarded to both winners and losers are about 25-50% as many as other local shops, despite the fact that entry to the event is $10 (compared to $5 almost everywhere else) and most of the prizes are promotional, meaning the shop gets them for free. I would love to see this change but, for the time being, have to recommend other more value-conscious establishments. read more

My husband and I love board and card games and stopped by while in town. They had an incredible selection that was very different than the game store where I live. They had many games that we had never heard of that looked really interesting. The employee was friendly and helpful. The store had other games and game paraphernalia, but we were most interested in the board game section. There was an area towards the back where tables were set up for game play, but that area was closed off due to Covid. There was a section in one of the board game aisles where you could purchase gently used games as well. We purchased a few games and left impressed with this store. I would recommend it. read more

Writing this review as someone who plays board games and paints miniatures. I can't speak to the issues with card games below. This shop had a great selection of board games and miniatures. I also appreciate the selection of paints and terrain making materials. A huge selection of Malifaux, PP and GW miniatures. Good prices as well. Not a great selection of X-Wing though. I like the place to go and play magic on Friday nights but I feel as if the staff is very unwelcoming and boarderline rude. I had store credit and when I asked to use it it seemed as if the employee was irritated that I had credit as well buying single cards seemed like such a hassle having to go online to buy them just seemed so odd. And when I asked about common magic staples the staff had no idea what the card was and just told me to look it up on there system. Overall it's just a fun place to play. I do feel as if every time I've bought a product from them I was ripped off of the value as they seem to charge more than any other shop in the area read more

Here's the thing--my son has participated in Yugioh tournaments for four years at this place. We have purchased cards here. He has participated in trading cards here. He and his group of friends have enjoyed their Saturday mornings here. I have been happy to have him participate in this because...well, frankly, there's a lot of less desirable activities a teen can be engaged in. On Saturday mornings, there are a lot of young people that participate and a lot of cards are being passed, traded, played, and left lying around. Just a couple of weeks ago, my son found a pack of rare/expensive cards that was left by a sponsored player (ie: One that travels and plays in these tournaments for a living). He turned them in. The player was phoned, found to be on his way to Japan, wouldn't be back in the Treasure Valley any time soon and so expressed the desire to donate them. It happens. Up until this morning, I have been happy with our experience with this establishment. This morning, however, my son engaged in a trade of cards with another player. Once the trade was complete, a third player approached and asked to look at the cards my son had traded. The player he had traded them to agreed and the third player claimed they were cards of HIS that had been "stolen" two weeks prior. An employee named Tom then approached and interjected into the situation that "some" of the cards that had been traded were the same as the stolen ones (even though hundreds of thousands of identical cards are distributed). They had no video graphic evidence of a theft even having taken place two weeks prior (the kid could have left his cards lying around and someone mistakenly picked them up for all they know), but based on this boy claiming that two weeks ago his unmarked cards had gone missing and my son happened to have just traded similar ones (though not identical), Tom felt it appropriate to accuse my son of stealing in front of a group of patrons. There were no players who had seen my son supposedly steal these cards, the employee did not bear witness to this supposed "crime", nor did the purported victim of the theft witness who had "taken" the cards. I cannot begin to express how unprofessional and just downright inappropriate and really slanderous this is. Retail clerks are not, last I checked, detectives and it seems presumptuous, and a little preposterous that one would attempt to behave as such. If a retail clerk suspects a crime has been committed, it seems to me that reporting that crime to the appropriate authorities and allowing them to sort it out would be the correct course of action. As a mother, this bothers me because quite often kids are dropped off at these tournaments (assuming it's a safe place for their children to spend a few hours playing games with friends). And, the idea that my younger son could possibly be playing here and accused of cheating or stealing in front of his peers without an adult there to defend him is completely unacceptable. And, thus, my older son (as he's old enough to decide for himself) won't be attending these events any more and I cannot possibly feel secure allowing my younger son to either. It is really a shame that one employees rather unprofessional and ridiculous behavior can ruin it for others. Fortunately, they aren't the only place in town and Phoenix Fire has begun holding tournaments and seem to be comporting themselves with a little more professionalism than we have received here. I have been a gamer for 40+ years, 30 of those here in Boise. All About Games has a great selection of various games and if its not in stock, they are happy to order it for you (generally arriving within a week, depending on if the distributor has it in stock). The staff is very friendly and will call you by name after a few visits. Super Large gaming area that is open late and has an extensive collection of demo games that you can try out for free. The staff will help you learn the game if time permits. If you want to try a board game that they don't have in the library, come down on a Tuesday evening and there is a very good chance that someone will have a copy and will be more than willing to teach it to you (Tuesdays are open board game night). Interested in getting in a game of Chess or Go? The local Chess/Go clubs meet in the game room Monday evenings. Want to try out some RPGs? Tuesdays and Wednesday the AD&D clubs meet and Sunday afternoon its Pathfinder. The gaming area also has a HUGE collection of terrain to use in miniature games. Check the calendar or the staff to find out what night your favorite miniature game meets. Not being a card gamer, I'm not familiar with them but I do know that magic/pokemon/yu ge oh are also played weekly. With Friday nights being the big magic night. Overall I would have to say that All About Games is the 2nd best game store I've ever been in. Sorry guys but Guardian Games in Portland is going to be tough to beat with them having a gaming area with alcohol. read more

I have been to AAG a few times, and find it to be a great store and gladly give them by business. I have read the reviews below, and they seem situational at best, so I would like to review the store based upon the perspective of a mid-30s gamer who doesn't see the game store as a free babysitting service for CCG brats. I am new to the area, and was looking for a place to play tabletop war gaming (Warmachine/Hordes), and AAG came up as the place the players go to, and I was not disappointed. It is in a well-lit strip mall with plenty of parking and restaurants in the vicinity. The store is good sized and doesn't feel closed-in. I have been to games stores where you feel like you're in a storage space with no room to move around, this isn't that place. They have plenty of stock, and I am not at a loss of things to give them my money for;) I found the employees very friendly and conversational, not glowering and rude as others have mentioned. Male or female, they were great. I found the store to be a nice family-friendly environment where I could bring my children (if I had any) to play a board game, RPG, or table top game and not be worried they would be exposed to inappropriate behavior. I have also been to game stores where the owners have done drugs and used REALLY filthy language (hard R-rated, no joke), and have not encountered that at AAG. There is open and free gaming for what ails you. I enjoyed the tables they had for war gaming, and there was more terrain than you could shake a stick at. All of it was of good quality and genre. Want Steampunk? They had it. Want Sci-Fi? They had terrain. Medieval, Ancient Ruins, and Jungle? They had that kind of terrain, also. You are allowed to have food and drink on the store, as long as you are respectful and clean up any messes. They also have snacks and drinks for sale, which is nice. Again, I've been to stores that do not allow food or drink inside or in the gaming areas, not even water. I think the previous reviewers were expecting a retail store that entertains their kids so they don't have to. A Local Games Store (LGS) is a symbiotic entity: it needs the customers just as much as the customers need it. I really like All About Games and will continue to give them my money. read more

A great small game shop. They have lots of demo games they will let you try out. It is a great place to find cool games that are not available at places like Walmart and Target. They also have a small selection of preowned games to buy for reduced prices. They also host tournament days for Magic the gathering and other collector card games. We go mostly for the Homeschool games days that they host for us. We had a Halloween game day at the end of Oct where they did a costume contest and gave out prizes to 4 of the kids. read more

I love gaming stores. Living in Utah, and having 'my' own local gaming store I still enjoy visiting other stores. Not living in Boise l am unsure how large the gaming scene is. Where I play is able to support numerous games I.e. Magic, WH40K, Heroclix, etc. I may be moving to Boise and hope to find that same variety of options. My first impression was neutral. The organization was puzzling. The shelves are arranged at an angle and this makes it look like the have an extensive collection of games. If the shelves were parallel/side-by-side then it would obvious they have a smaller inventory than intentionally thought. I do find items I can't purchase in Utah, but I'd be more inclined to order from Amazon. The prices are equitable with other stores. They do have a good variety in some areas (RPG, Magic, and obscure card games (think Superfight) and a poor variety in other areas (Heroclix especially) The staff is friendly, but should make more of an effort to address customers. I was standing in line, there was someone behind the register not helping anyone, just standing there. If they were not there to work the register I am fine with that, but without a 'someone will be right with you' it seems they are less concerned with that customer at that moment. It is one of those small gestures that can swing opinion to the negative side unintentionally. Overall, it was a pleasant visit (other than the excessively loud Magic players) and I would return to pursue but call ahead if I was looking for something specific. read more

So I'm updating my review. They seemed nice enough however when going there today I was accused of stealing. A guy saw me trading some nice cards their so went and claimed they were stolen from him two weeks ago. With no solid evidence other than his word vs mine the worker there Tom interrogated me and accused me of stealing them. I had made up my mind to just leave and never return when he banned me from the store! I am neither sad nor disappointed. Only angry that after four years of patronage this occurred. If I could it would 0 stars but oh well. Also someone else should take this dukedom from me as I want to no longer be associated with them in any way shape or form. read more

What an awesome local business! We were looking for a specific game that they (not surprisingly, it's uncommon) didn't have in stock. They ordered it for us and not only did they get us the special edition, they got it for LESS than the online cost for the regular edition. Killer deal! We've since purchased several other games from them and love the ability to demo many games before you buy them, not to mention the invaluable personal advice. They take the time to help demo new games or awnser questions you might have about them. They go out of their way to make sure you get what you want- even offering to special order or get supplies from the downstore store. A great place to try out a new game or two and relax. read more

AAG is a great hobby store. This is the store that got me into designer board games, Magic the Gathering and I just started Warmachine. The employees and community is amazing. Like most stores they have some up's and down's, but overall this is the best hobby store in Boise. read more

Been here a few times and always had a good experience, also they utilize the five star reward app which is good, if you plan on spending a fair amount of money here. The store has a good selection of board games and other card games and miniatures, my only small gripe is cost some of there games can be found much cheaper elsewhere and they don't price match but again this isn't every game only a couple I've noticed that when I went to buy to support the local store the price was so much cheaper elsewhere I couldn't bring myself to spending an extra 20-40 dollars at the store. read more

All About Games... You have have been circling my I will no longer shop there drain for some time. I loved them for so long. Especially for the purchasing of MTG and D&D related merchandise. But... Today was last straw. I went in to make a quick purchase today. I was greeted by one girl behind the counter. There were patrons looking at items and obviously games being played, the store was rather busy. I went to the cash out counter and two guys are staring at me like I am a giant clown. I ask to purchase something in which the bigger older guy gruffly says "We are closed for inventory. I won't be selling you anything." I blink confused, thanking them politely and leave. On my way out I notice a tiny hand-written sign saying "closed for inventory". Ummmmmm... My entire 10 years or so in retail I have NEVER worked/shopped a store that is "open" but "closed for sales" for inventory. You do that while closed!!!! What brilliance is turning away business all day? They were having a tournament where people were paying... I understand being a "venue" but they are a store first and foremost. The owner is nice enough but not remotely business savvy. All the good employees are gone... Last year we bought a BOX of magic cards. You know the unopened ones typically $99 or so dollars. Some girls working there said it wasn't $99 that it was $4 per pack in the sealed box... Any MTG players know this is bull, as boxes are sold cheaper as bulk (and wasn't a rare box or anything). So they charged us $149 or so. Baffled we searched Boise for another distributor. Finally finding one doing boxes for $92 and bought one of those instead. These same employees at AAG told us we could not return the unopened box we had just purchased... Ummmmmm. After a tiresome conversion they finally refunded us for the return of the sealed box. I have played in events and given references bringing others in. Including a state MTG champion. However, the customer service became crud. Employees harass players with accusations of theft with no evidence but hearsay. I have had stuff go missing with hardly anyone in the store... I never accused the staff of theft. One of the biggest rules of customer service is never to use the words "theft" or "stolen" to a customer or accuse a customer of a crime EVER!!! Just a few examples of their decline in customer service and merchandise. I have a dozen more. I kept going back and letting them break our hearts. Bye, Bye, Bye All About Games. I am taking my patronage and references down the hill to Franklin and Cole. read more

AAG is a great store with a really huge range of board games and MTG stock. The staff are really friendly and super helpful. Where it excels is with the tournaments. AAG is probably the best place around for Friday Night Magic and a few other series too. read more

So I've been frequenting this store for a couple years, buying merchandise and going to the yugioh tournaments on and off as my work schedule allowed. Up until yesterday I have had a fairly positive experience with this store. Yesterday during a tournament however; while I was waiting for my opponent to return from quickly dropping their significant other off at work I was observing the duel next to me. I noticed that one of the players used a card incorrectly and pointed it out to his opponent who I happened to be friendly with. This resulted in the other player forfeiting his duel and proceeding to scream, insult, and threaten me with violence. The member of staff, Tom, who is supposed to be the judge was standing only feet away and did absolutely nothing as this dragged on for several minutes before the player left on his own. I finished my duel and was just going to go home and let it go when I am pulled aside by Tom. He then proceeds to chastise me saying that I was apparently "In the wrong" for breaking some unspoken tournament etiquette of not interfering in other people's duels. Despite the fact that on no occasion in the past two years of attending duels has this been made clear, and despite that fact that this happens CONSTANTLY. Tom is supposed to be the judge but he is more often dealing with customers at the retail counter than judging the tournament that we PAID FOR. So it has been common practice to point out when someone is cheating, whether on purpose or not. When I called and lodged a complaint against Tom nothing came of it, apparently it is this store's policy to allow someone twice your age to throw a tantrum like a child and scream obscenity and threaten you with violence during a PAID EVENT on a BUSINESS PROPERTY and not intervene or have there be any consequences. I feel this is completely unprofessional and I will certainly never be going back to this excuse for a business. read more

AAG charges more than other stores and they give you less. There are several better options close by that are better. If you want to play Magic you also have the benefit of poorly ran tournaments with poor payout, assuming they do not get cancelled. read more
