Rediscovered Books was on my shortlist for a weekend trip to Boise a week ago and the day was Indie Bookstore Day. The vibe was perfect, the service spot on and the general selection excellent. I bought books, fridge magnets as gifts and wanted more, but hesitated due to weight restrictions on checked bags. How have I never reviewed this gem of an independent bookseller in Boise? I have no idea. But, here we are. I've been going to Rediscovered books since way back when they were in a strip mall on Overland. I've attended book clubs here and love everything about all they have going on. They're now located in downtown Boise. They have a wide variety of books, tons of fun recommendations, and an overall cozy bookshop vibe. If you're not sure what you'd like to read--they are full of recommendations! They've definitely helped me find my next read on occasion. Rediscovered Books is an absolute gem of Boise, I love supporting this local bookstore! Covid protocols include: limited number of people in store, mask required, and hand sanitizer required upon entry. The staff here at Rediscovered Books are so knowledgeable and helpful! I also really love the events (currently all on zoom/virtual) that this book store puts on, like their Human Rights book club that is hosted with the Wassmuth Center for human rights, and the Black History Museum. If you're Downtown, I highly suggest stopping by Rediscovered Books on 8th St and if you're looking for a particular book- their website makes it really easy to order online and either pickup in store or get it delivered! I had a great experience this morning at Rediscovered Books. My little sister had requested a specific type of book for her birthday (philosophical fiction) and while I was happy to be trusted to pick something out I had no idea where to begin and decided to seek help at our local bookstore. Not only was I greeted and helped immediately upon entering, but I also found that the associate working (sorry for forgetting a name!) was a philosophy professor! She was friendly to all the shoppers in the store right now but her enthusiasm for being a perfect match for my request was palpable. I was quickly in and out with a great gift, a new rewards account, a holiday catalog, and directions to the company's used bookstore on State. I can never resist a bookstore! We were in Boise and came across this gem downtown. They offer both new and used books. We were instantly greeted by a lovely lady as we walked in- my sister in law had only intended to buy "my Grandmother told me to tell you she's sorry" by Fredrik Blackman, and we both walked out with two books each! I'm sorry I can't remember the salesperson's name , but based on what we liked, she suggested All The Lonely People, by Mike Gayle, which we both bought, and I also bought The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah- I love to shop local wherever I am and whenever I can- I always appreciate the effort and the extra service that is usually offered because they are passionate about what they are doing. Bookstores are one of my most precious spaces. Every time I get a little bit of "me" time these days, I beeline to a bookstore. Rediscovered Books is my favorite one. Not only is it local, it is very well run, and you can find a nice selection of used books! This place has been around for a while! I think they just celebrated their 13th (?) anniversary! They really know what they're doing by now. The shelves are nicely organized with clear labels. The displays are thoughtful and really help you pick out some mind candy. My favorite thing is their staff recommendations and picks. Every shelf has at least 1-2 short description and recommendation tags from the staff. It is so helpful and really helps you narrow down browsing. They have a great kid's section that my 4 year old loves. Lots of picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, and activity books. There are a few comfy places to park with your stack of books and peruse your treasures. read more

Is there anything as wonderful as being surrounded by books? I think not! I stopped in here this past Saturday while I was at the market. I've come in a few times before but never purchased anything, so I could never speak for their prices. However, while in their shop a few days ago, I noticed the most gorgeous book art I've ever seen. I reached out and grabbed the book and it was "Peter Pan". I've been dying to get lost in a story book lately, so I decided before looking at the price that I was going to buy it! When they rang me up at the register, it wasn't even $8! This is my favorite bookstore! It's got the perfect variety of books, from your everyday series to your cookbook, they'll probably have it. And I'm happy to say that despite being in idaho, it's extremely inclusive, and a safe space for anyone. This bookstore is queer run, and makes it their mission to have a diverse variety of books. They make sure to have sections of the store dedicated to LGBTQIA+ authors, BIPOC authors, AAPI authors, female authors, and Authors with disabilities (and issues their communities face). It's a relatively small space, but there's plenty of room to browse and spaces to sit down and read. The staff does read some of the books, and they put little sticky notes with reviews by the shelves! I also rlly appreciate how they have friendly employees who ask what you're looking for! They're like waiters/waitresses taking orders for the type of book you're in the mood for! They are also open to book discussions! Their staff is the best ever! Rediscovered, I love you! read more

I really want to like this bookstore. There is decent variety, and they aren't ridiculously overpriced. HOWEVER, my daughter and I stopped by on a whim to check out their selection. I am building quite an extensive library and need to fill it. I've never spent less than $100 happily on any trip. At the time we went, masks were not a requirement by state, city, or county standards. They had a "masks required" sign out front. I started to ask an employee standing just inside the door if there was a possibility I could go in without a mask. Before I could say more than "if I have a medical condition-", a thin, older woman with dirty blonde hair YELLED at me. "These rules apply to everyone!!!" She actually yelled this at me! What she didn't know was that not only do I have scar tissue throughout my lungs, so that any mask makes it very difficult to breathe, but that I also have a condition where I overheat easily. When I wear any mask for more than a few minutes, I overheat, which makes me pass out. I have already had covid. The bookstore was empty except for a couple of employees. Regardless, yelling at a customer is not acceptable, so I may not be back again. It is incredibly disappointing to know that whomever runs this bookstore is letting their 'pandemic panic' control the quality of customer service at this store. And to think they are surrounded by so many books, many of which must be filled with proper knowledge about how diseases behave...I guess one can lead a horse to water, but cannot make them drink. read more

I really loved this bookstore.There are not very many left nowadays since libraries are free and a lot of books can be stored on your kindle or a simple smartphone. Despite owning most of my favorite texts stockpiled electronically on one very famous resource I miss that old feeling of holding and reading an actual book. This store offers a great selection of used and new books on different topics. They also organize some meetings , where you can meet the author and discuss the literature which is very cool. The only thing that might be not very beneficial for this business it is located downtown so it is not always easy to park within the reasonable walking distance.Walking is not an issue for me I am an avid walker it is just this eternal nagging question : Where the duck do(did) I park ? One of the very few advantages of living in the middle of nowhere : parking spots are everywhere. Needless to say if the closest parking spot I could find is past the State Capitol building it kinda limits the number of books I can carry. So it is another awesome store, but make sure your hotel is not too far away if you are just visiting Boise. read more

They claim to be picky about the self-published books that they sell, however, I've seen a great deal of crap pass through these walls. I wonder who is really vetting the books. I know they don't read the books ahead of time. Laura must be snoozing at the job. I was just there the other night and bought "Liminal." It was average at best--mostly a depressing read. You know what really makes a bookstore for me? The staff. 100% the staff. And the staff at Rediscovered Books is about as good as it gets. On a recent trip to Boise I swung into the shop to pick up a book for my sons (a tradition of traveling I picked up a few years ago) and was delighted with what I found. Based on a staff member's recommendation I bought The Library Lion which is such a lovely story in my eyes, but more importantly is my older son's favorite book since I brought it home. Not only were they able to recommend books for a 4 year old, but they also were extremely helpful for recommending books for a tween/teen boy for someone else in the store. And their shelves of recommendation were equally awesome. If you aren't a staff person and focus more on selection I doubt you'll be disappointed here either. They have a wonderful selection, but if they don't carry what you are looking for they will also order it for you. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rediscovered Books and would definitely head back there if I find myself in Boise again! read more
