    Not bad :)

This place is fantastic and I absolutely LOVE that we still have a true music store. I used to work at a music shop in Scottsdale and then we moved to downtown Phoenix. Talk about two different worlds lol. That's a story for a rainy day tho. Record Exchange is an old school shop too like the one I worked at. I have a soft spot for stores like this. Music is such a big part of my life and always has been, so again, makes me incredibly happy we have this store here. Not many music stores left anywhere...obviously:( thanks to downloading. There will always be something special and definitely more unique and wonderful about going to a store to get new music. Download, sure is convenient, but it's sad so many people will never understand how exciting it is to go to a store when you know a new album is about to drop, or how fun it was to camp out at stores like this back in the day for concert tickets. I camped out for so many great shows like Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, LIVE, so many incredible bands: Now Ticketmaster sucks lol. The lottery nonsense etc etc. boring. Anyway, if I had one complaint(s) about Record Exchange is 1) they make you wear masks and that's weird to me because there are literally no other businesses that force people to wear them. It should be an option in my opinion. I'm not talking shit about people who live by the mask and rules, im just saying, it should be a choice to wear one. Aside from that, the kid who rang me up was kind of a d-bag. No hello, nothing like that. I mean, it's a record store, can't expect them to roll out the red carpet or anything, but "hey! How are u?!" should always be something they said even if they hate you for being there hahahaha! And aside from that, the 5 stars is still deserved because I honestly can't see myself giving this place a bad rating. They have a great CD collection, I was there to buy the new ABBA album. I figured I had to buy the cd lol. Their vinyl section is beautiful! I love how popular vinyl is again. When I worked at Circles in Phx, we sold a TON of vinyl! Then digital started and vinyl sales sadly dropped dramatically almost to nothing. It gained back a little steam after the initial digital download high started to come down lol and was pretty steady until we ended up closing the store. It's not a high-rise luxury apartment building. They kept the bottom floor facade tho...back in the 50s my music store was a studebaker dealership. Our dj booth was the rotating platform they used back then to display the cars. They kept that after public uproar when they started to demolish that beautiful historic building. Cities like Phx and now even Boise, love to destroy history to build tacky, ugly, track homes/buildings or ... parking lots. Anyway, got off topic there lol. Record Exchange is very nostalgic for me. It's always so great to go in there. Attached to the music store is a little type knickknack area, stuff that tourists would like or little old ladies who collect weird figurines or hipster chicks who like cutesy little knickknacks lol...OR guys! Lol There's a coffee counter too, at least I'm pretty sure that's what that was. Coffee tastes like ass to me, I hate it lol. I know, I know, to most that's "sociopathic behavior" hahaha but sorry, it's liquid dirt to me lol. Either way, RX having this is very cool, very clever business-wise and very convenient for the coffee lovers. One last thing about vinyl I forgot to mention, the store was paaacked when I was there! Again, that made me happy, made my heart smile, but majority of customers had vinyl in their hands which was so wonderful to see. The more I talk about it, makes me miss working in a music store. I basically ran the store in Phx lol and for almost 10 years. Worked at a Hastings in Flagstaff too with my sights on their music section. Again, getting sidetracked! This is what music stores do to me! Make me happy, bring tons of wonderful memories back etc. If you live in Boise, I know you've been! If you're GenX, I know most of y'all still love going to a music store and yeah, we all download, but nothing will ever beat how great going to the music store is! Record Exchange, thank you for still existing! Thank you for having one FANTASTIC fn store with a great selection and reasonable prices as well! You're very important to Boise and we must hold on to you as long as humanly possible! Thanks for reading, Yelpieeriees! Thanks for reading my sidetracked parts too haha! It's happens! And with me...a lot lol. Cheers!

This was one of the best record stores i've been too! I'm visiting from Utah, and we found this place online, and I'm so glad we did! They had a huge selection of vinyls that I've never seen before at other places. I will say, their prices are the same as other places, so not necessarily a deal but they do have the best options! Everyone who works there is extremely kind and we will definitely be coming back the next time we're in Idaho!

The Record Exchange has been in Boise for over forty years, and is obviously well-established at a handy downtown location. In addition to their selection of CDs, Vinyl, DVDs, there is a gift shop, a café, concert ticket sales, and they often have in-store concerts. There is almost too much ot cover in a single review. To make it easy on myself, their website says it best: "In addition to music, The Record Exchange carries: DVD and Blu-ray discs (new and used) Turntables and other audio equipment Vinyl accessories Home and portable audio accessories Clothing Hats Books Magazines Posters Espresso (Downtown Boise's first espresso bar!) Jewelry Incense Candles Gifts Home wares Toys Action figures Collectibles (including kidrobot) Greeting cards Games Sunglasses Stickers Kids stuff Candy bars Weird stuff you didn't know you wanted until you saw it!" I hate to say it in a review, but I am almost afraid to go into this place, because I know I'm gonna spend at least twenty-five bucks, as I did yesterday, on one new, and two used CDs. The used CDs were in great shape, no issues playing them. The choice of artists reflects my age, Vangelis, Dire Straits, and Tom Waits. I know; I know, that's a strange combination, and had I deeper-pockets, I would have purchased still more. The choices are all-but endless. I've not tried the food at the café, but I did get an espresso drink on one past visit, and it was quite good. As a San Francisco guy, the Record Exchange reminds me of a couple of places, which were located on Haight Street --- funky, and good at it. If you are visiting Boise, you simply must visit this wonderful, local business.

    Concerts in the shop!

Just walk in here and you are instantly taken back to the 80's and even the 90's. No better feeling. Wacky gifts, music, and smell all help create the nostalgic feeling from the past. The internet is gone, cell phones aren't invented yet (or if they are it was the kind on Saved by The Bell), social media was obsolete and you probably had a side ponytail. Yes, this is the best time travel you can ask for! Stop on in for a gag gift, a cute gift, Idaho swag, jewelry, cd surprise grab bags, vinyls, instrument parts or strings, coffee, fun, and maybe even a live concert!

Ok! This place is amazing! So random too to be located in the mall. It's like a trip down Nostalgia…read moreLane! Holy shit! I was so excited to just stumble across this place yesterday. Remember back in the 80's, 90's, 2000's going to the mall and having stores like Sam Goody, Virgin Records, or Borders Books and Music?! How much fun that was! Was always exciting for us 90s kids to spend some time in any music store back then, getting the newest CDs, going through the insert & then basically memorizing the entire cd in a matter of days lol...as long as it was good haha! In the late 90s and early 2000s I ran a music store and then mid 2000's worked at a Hastings in Flagstaff. This place is VERY similar to Hastings. Aww I miss Hastings. What a great store. Music stores in general I miss so much. tons of CDs, Blu-ray's, and DVDs. Pretty sure I saw a shit load of games as well. LOTS of stuff to go through! It was busy as hell in there too which made me even happier to see. Used or not, what a fantastic place and I am so happy it's in existence. Even if it doesn't last as long as it should, it's wonderful to see it and to see so many people there and going through the music and whatnot. I didn't get to interact with the staff. They were busy. I only saw one employee. Hopefully he wasn't the only one there bc it was definitely busy. I get the crowds there have to do with Christmas shopping, BUT! seeing the store and the tons of people there, it gives me hope. Want a cool little flashback to the 90s when life was incredible..and the music was top tier...check this store out. Just getting traffic in there will help keep this place going. Maybe it's pop-up? Who knows. I love it. Thanks for reading, YelperEntertainerees! Cheers!

Nerds Unite! I first read about EntertainMart via one of the apps I follow for new businesses…read more To see EntertainMart through my eyes of complete nerdiness was something else entirely. Let's start with the basics of what they have DVDs CDs Records Movie Posters Funko POPs! Anime Comic Books Manga Baseball Cards Pokemon Cards Game Systems and their cartridges I was browsing the Funko POPs! when my brother yells from across the store, 'Yo Bro! Check this out!' I was thinking he found something that I probably had seen before but not today! There was a section of classic Atari 2600 game cartridges. Here are some of them as of Sunday Adventure Battlezone Centipede Crystal Castles Defender Football Joust Pele's Soccer Star Raiders Yar's Revenge but wait there were more... Activision game cartridges as of Sunday were Boxing Dolphin Enduro Dragster Tennis Freeway Kaboom! Pitfall! Starmaster Stampede and Barnstorming Oh Lordy! A flood of memories hit me like a Kaboom! bomb. I was instantly transported back to my sweaty teenage room of the early 1980s, with my Atari 2600 connected to a small black and white television that had a rabbit ear antenna. If by chance you were able to get a high score on one of the Activision games, and then take a picture with a polaroid, you could send it to Activision for a game patch. Each game had its own unique patches. For Freeway, the patch was from the 'Save the chicken foundation' and featured a chicken running in a blaze of glory For Kaboom!, the patch was from the Activision Bucket Brigade and looked like the one in the picture attached to this review. The most coveted one was for Pitfall! It depicts Pitfall Harry swinging over a pit and into a pile of treasure. I attached an image to this review. After about several months, I had most of the patches. My mom was so sweet that she ironed them to my backpack and like the nerd I was, I went to middle school in my OP socks and Sperry Topsiders, and my Activision Patched backpack. I remembered all of this when seeing the games at EntertainMart. It's a super cool place that will fill the void when Hastings left many years ago. A couple of notes EntertainMart will buy, sell, and trade your DVDs, CDs, Funko POPs! and more. EntertainMart has a lot of specials and deals. There are mystery bags of music and DVDs. Check them out, they are near the Dillards top entrance at the Boise Town Square Mall.

If there is anything more wonderful than lots of books, it is lots of books mixed in with the aroma…read moreof freshly brewed coffee wafting in the air and the sound of classical music playing in the background. Well, maybe not entirely classical as there was a bit of Katy Perry's "Fight Song" set to violin and that was pretty sweet too. Add the friendly "welcome to the store" when we walked in (through the music section...and they have vinyl records there...do people still play vinyl...I remember when it was the only option) and we were inclined to like this B&N right out of the gate. All of the constructive criticism offered by Charles F in his good review are spot on. This is like a gigantic swap meet in some respects too with the old records and he racks and bins of deep discount books along with best sellers. But depending on what one is looking for, that could come in handy too. And then there is the huge selection of their regular stock. And a big children's section if you are trying to encourage children to learn the value and delights of holding a good old fashioned book in their hands and diving into the world of possibilities books hold for them. We went in for what we thought would be an hour and but for needing to be somewhere else, we reluctantly left two hours later with still more shopping we could have done. The customer service people were very helpful too. There was a specific book in which I was interested and while they had one on the shelf the book was damaged. Or as the service person says, "This looks manhandled." Yep. And since I plan to display it, that is a problem. She offered to order another one for us and have it delivered to our home or to the store. Nice. We took her up on it. (I'm doubtful though...this book is out of print...if the book actually arrives this will be 5 stars. :-) ) We three years after moving to the Treasure Valley to explore Boise's Barnes and Noble. We will go back soon. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Private lot which seemed to have lots of space. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible parking in lot. Level in and throughout the store. Aisleways are ample. Coffee bar is "set up" but there is a ramp on one side. Standard height seating in coffee area. Accessible loo for him and her. 3) COFFEE BAR: We didn't sample the brew or snacks there, but there is a coffee bar in the middle of the store that appears to offer both Seattle's Best and Starbuck's. Several tables with chairs and a few stools at a high counter. The tables had lots of people reading and working at them.
