Adoption process was thorough but worth it! We adopted our girl, Sanibel, as a puppy from Alive and couldn't be happier.

Right after we adopted Chewie! He's very photogenic.

The people here treated me ridiculously rudely. Would not recommend at all. Awful service.

It pains me to write this review, because it probably harms the beautiful animals at this place,…read morethan the business itself. I recently lost my cat of 19 yrs, that left a huge hole in my heart. I decided to pour that love into a new rescue. So i searched online, found famousfido, listing a kitten as 4 mos old, that needed a home IMMEDIATELY. I fell in love, and the emails went as far as sending photo's of my home so they can assess a good fit. I set up his room, bought new toiletries, food, watering stations, excited to meet my new lifetime pal. When I got there, my first interaction was with Gloria - the owner. I said, Hello. her first question was "Whats with the gloves?" - I wore latex gloves to protect myself and the animals from any illnesses. I said I was just trying to be sanitary. Then I met Jen, who then changed the tone of the adoption, first she said the cat is too young (4 months), then she said she is bonded with her peers. Who then tried to steer me toward multi-cat adoptions or an older cat. I quizically asked about some other kittens, and she was dismissive as too young or coupled. I cant help but to feel I was turned away for some reason or another, based on superficial whims. Its quite a shame of the switch n bait here. Theyre are a lot of loving animals here that need loving homes, and have loving futures. But their life is dominated by the arbitrary whims of the owner. This breaks my heart. Ive been totally dismayed and turned off by the entire adoption process, as its more a money making machine than actual best interest for animals in need. Do not stop trying to rescue, as these beautiful creatures deserve a chance at life. But do be aware that this is a very strange, disorganized, and arbitrary organization

The foster for the first dog called me and told me all about the dog I was going to adopt, making sure I was truly interested in him. The application was easy to fill out and we met all the requirements. Payment and then finally receiving our pup was effortless. Bev was absolutely great, she followed up with us after our dog arrived to make sure he was doing well. A few years later my mom fell in love with another dog up for adoption by MAR, and because we had adopted before, we were chosen within a day! They are the sweetest, most hilarious dogs ever. They're endless sources of joy and love. I have a feeling some of the negative reviews are from people who were turned down during the application process, either because there were tons of other people wanting that dog too, or their house/home did not meet the standards MAR is looking for. MAR wants to adopt out dogs to their forever homes, and some dogs need to be the only dog in the family, or a no-kids family. Doesn't matter how "mature" your kids are, or how "nice" your other dog is. Take all these reviews with a grain of salt, because some of these people are exactly that... salty.

MAR isn't any kind of huge organization, and she cares for many animals herself. Sometimes it may take awhile for her to get back to someone, but that doesn't make her unprofessional. Our experience adopting our dog was wonderful and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend MAR to anyone interested in adopting a pet!
