If you're interested in Voice Overs, GO TO ALISO CREEK! The founder/Instructor William Williams is AWESOME! I took the six week Fundamentals of Commercial Voice Over class. William connects with each student individually and works with them to build on what they're doing right and help them let go of bad habits. My voice used to go up about three octaves when I got nervous (ex: public speaking for my day job, auditioning for acting gigs). After my first time reading a VO commercial script during one of my classes, William heard my voice do it's weird thing and immediately (respectfully) made me more aware of it and helped me to center my breathing and speak from a supported place - so that I sounded more like ME instead of someone "acting". For me that was BIG, cause I immediately recognized that he cared about helping me improve and be the best artist I could be, as opposed to some teachers out here in Hollywood that will just take your money and run with it! And I saw William do that with each student. William is also fun to work with! He makes his classes enjoyable and gives you a bit of history of the biz throughout the session while you're learning how to rock the mic with voice over technique. I read another review here where someone said William is a hippie. Well I say he may not be a spring chicken in terms of age, (he's like over 40) but that worked for me cause he's been in the business long enough to know his stuff. He makes a LIVING as a voice over actor and his early career was in advertising (HELLO!) so I found that he was like a walking voice over dictionary, like the Bible of VOs is in William's head folks. He not only helps you become a great VO performer but teaches you the business from the perspective of the ADVERTISER and CONSUMER; so YOU the voice over understands what is needed to get the JOB. William's a gifted teacher. I can weigh in on this cause I'm a teacher, too. It's like he hears your voice and observes you the perform copy and pin points what your obstacles may be and respectfully helps you overcome them. Take me for instance, I'm a real technical actor. William helped me get out of my own way and make the material organic. This has helped me with my on-camera and stand up comedy class, too! I have become better at using the language in any script to convey emotion and intention; a subtle change, but I am a much more confident performer all the way around. I learned so many tips and tricks, how to "mark a script" to help the performance, the different types of VOs, basics on working in the VO biz, basics on VO audition home recording, resources for learning accents, how to improve the dialects I already knew, VO skills for radio/tv/industrial/internet commercials, how to analyze VO copy, how to direct myself, use the mic, and I also learned how to perform several general characters that I will need to know to be a successful VO actor. I am so happy I took William's class cause now I know that I'm going to follow through with a career in voice overs. There are a lot of ways to make some extra cash, and eventually a lotta cash in the biz, so I'm gonna stick with it, not only cuz it's fun but cause I believe I can get some work in the field. OH! Before I signed up for the 6 week VO Commercial class I took the Saturday Voice Over Work Out for $40 and it convinced me to sign up for the six week Commercial class AND 40 bucks was deducted from the Commercial class! So if you don't have a lot of money to spend and just want to wet your beak, I recommend the Saturday two and a half hour work out class. It was so much fun and I met some cool people and got to read at least 4 voice over scripts on the mic and experience William as a teacher. He was so patient and funny and gave us several notes so we all improved and had a blast! Ok folks I know this is a long review but I just wanted to give a shout out to all of you reading this that if you wanna do voice overs, or you're just curious, or you want to improve your public speaking skills or you just want to have fun and try something different, GO TO ALISO CREEK and study with William Williams! read more
